  1. Thanks for the replies. I actually emailed customer support for the manufacturer, and the person who responded said that no data is saved when you do a factory reset. However, I don't really trust that the frontline person responding to customer service inquiries really knows. What I've been worried about is whether factory resets could leave data behind similar to how "deleting" data on a hard drive in Windows is not the same as wiping data from a hard drive.
  2. Two years later and the wider industry still has not really embraced Thunderbolt. USB3 was fairly rapidly adopted by many hardware developers and is much more widely availble now. Even Macs have USB3, but only a handful of PC motherboards have Thunderbolt. And few peripherals are equipped with Thunderbolt. At this point I doubt Thunderbolt will ever take off. We'll have universal USB4 before Thunderbolt.
  3. I can't comment on the Corsairs specifically, but I had a CoolIT closed-loop watercooling unit that was professionally installed with a desktop I bought a few years back. At the time, I was pretty busy with school and work and never opened the case (didn't have any reason to). One day I suddenly started having problems with my sound card and video card. I opened the case and discovered the watercooling unit had spontaneously sprung a leak and leaked all over the components underneath it. The computer had been in the same place as where I had originally set it up, never moved, never disturbed. After that experience I would be leery of dealing with any of these units -- even though hundreds, maybe thousands of people have had good experiences. (I build my own custom watercooling rigs now.) ---MOD--- I'm a new poster here so my last post isn't showing yet. I would edit it to say that you could argue that with custom loops my risk of a leak are probably even higher. That might be, in theory, but because it's a custom loop, I never assume it's leak-proof. I periodically open the case and check things out and I have temp monitors that I keep an eye on. I also don't take loop maintenance for granted, unlike what would be the case with a closed-system loop. Custom loops need to be periodically, if infrequently, cleaned. That added attention probably helps minimize risk of issues, if you're extra careful about how you go about putting the loop together in the first place.
  4. I realize this may seem a silly question to those who are very tech-oriented, so bear with me. I have a router I am planning to sell. Is there any way that data that has been received or transmitted from the router can be stored in its memory? There have been various reports over the years about how personal data, including passwords, was still retrievable on electronics gear (like mobile phones) that had been acquired second-hand. Do I need to be concerned with a used router?
