[M14x R2] - VBIOS mod for higher boost clocks - TEST VERSIONS ONLY
QPR_FC replied to svl7's topic in Alienware M14x / AW 14
I had a sound issue when I installed modded A11 too. Mine's ok now. I uninstalled the Microsoft sound driver, reinstalled (repaired) the Creative Audio Drivers and then installed Realtek HDMI R2.71 drivers. Restarted twice and now all ok :-) -
[M14x R2] - VBIOS mod for higher boost clocks - TEST VERSIONS ONLY
QPR_FC replied to svl7's topic in Alienware M14x / AW 14
I just flashed from original A12 to original A11 and then to the modded A11 using FPT...instructions where crystal clear...thanks! I am a bit mesmerized by all the BIOS options and left most of them alone, however I disabled CPU speedstep and turbo boost. I didn't use any of the overclock settings. Used Afterburner to overclock and can't get higher than 1100/1265 without artefacts. Still I'm over the moon with that M14x R2 with i7 3610QM 650M 2gb @ 1100 (Core) / 1265 (2530MHz Memory) and 65c max temp when stressed (Kombuster) -
I now love Win8, I loved Win7 too, hated Vista and ME, loved XP SP3. It's rock solid, no crashing and excellent memory management. I had some memory issues with Win7 when I had 15 or more Chrome tabs open (I'm running 8gb) but I don't anymore with Win8. Once you get over the interface GUI change and switch off trackpad gestures (to stop menus springing up everywhere during 'normal' usage) then all is great.. My best tip is to use tine Win Key + X as much as possible.

My M14x R2 is only a week old and now has official A12 bios. It did come with A11 and I updated it as a matter of course when reformatting the HDD and installing Win 8. I've been trying to overclock all day usinf MSI Afterburner and can only get the Memory Clock to increase, the Core Clock is locked. I found this forum via Google and realised that the vBios is locked and I need a modded Bios. Am I stuffed now? Do I need to wait for a modded A12? Can I downgrade to A04 (the only official Bios I can find below A08)? If so, how? Sorry for the noob questions but it is my first day at Alienware overclocking. Thanks

I'm the proud owner of my first Alienware, it's M14x R2 and I'm loving it. The screen is small and shiny :-( and it weighs a tonne but the performance is exceptional. It's only a week old and I'm still building it up on a Win8 platform...pure gaming and media device. I have a Dell XPS 15 for business and love that too. I'm hoping to overclock as soon as I have five posts on the board so I can download from this site! Go buy one!
