  1. 10600 is 1333mhz ram... i5 460m supports only 1066mhz. Now I know it should downclock, but it happened to me on my old gt660. I bought 1333mhz memory and got bluescreens during boot. - I put the memory to GT780 and found out (in cpu-z) that the memory doesnt have 1033mhz profile! only 1333mhz, 1600mhz and 1866 mhz! Right now I'm using it in GT780 clocked at 1600mhz. However if I set it in bios to 1033mhz I got bluescreens as well. TLDR, it's the memory. - its not stable at 1033mhz.
  2. And you have Dell vbios right ? I will probably flash the one that allows us to control LCD backlight, as I've installed it into GT660 (16f1) and giving this laptop to my friend as a gift (and he's not using external display so he wont miss HDMI or D-SUB) I've managed to get GTX770m for my GT780R so I'm fine for a while...

    Gx660r + gtx 580m/675m

just an FYI if anyone interested.. it works, however the i5 460m seems to be bottleneck for this gpu. mostly around 70-90% gpu usage, framerates are okay-ish, still very good upgrade though...it could be better... I was surprised by the temperatures - maybe it's because of the usage - 43C idle, 75C load (Same card in msi 1761 i7/2630qm was 45C - 86C)
  4. I will post it over the weekend. So far it looks fine, although I§m not getting such a good results as on the notebookcheck portal. GPU score is very similar - seems like my 2630qm is no match to their 4th gen cpus used while benchmarking... I'll post detailed thread over the weekend.

    Gx660r + gtx 580m/675m

I got genuine gtx580m heatsink from my 1761 - that one should fit well I think. "mechanical" part of installation looks ok, I was just worried about motherboard and CPU. I'll try it as soon as I got some time. Thank you guys.

    Gx660r + gtx 580m/675m

its i5 cpu - 35W currently HD5870m - 50W stock acad was 120w I got 675m working fine in msi 1761 using 150w acad without issue, there was i7 2630qm = 45w. I mean the acad isnt problem at all, I can even plug in 300W acad, I'm worried about motherboard or if i5 is enough for it. I've heard somebody got hd7970m working in that machine, which is as well 100w gpu. - not sure what was the cpu in his machine. It's just I dont want to upgrade cpu to 920xm if I dont have to... this laptop is a present for a friend of mine, and I got some spare GPUs, trying to upgrade it as good as possible at very low cost. And I dont want to fry something.
  7. Did anyone try GTX 580M/675M in msi GX660R ? is the 1st gen intel cpu bottle neck for this gpu? what about acad ? would be 150W enough? Thanks for any tips.
  8. Guys who tried 780M said it doesnt POST. It doesnt matter what acad do you have if it doesnt post. It should run even on battery. For example I made GTX 580M working using 90W acad - however as soon as the card was stressed the acad led turned off and the laptop switched to battery mode. Thats why you need bigger acad - to supply enough power when the card is under load. However the system should boot using any acad. TLDR. 780M doesnt post, ac adapter isn't problem here. If you are willing to try 780M anyway, get a different version - the one tested here on forums was Clevo I think - not sure though.
  9. just an FYI guys, Clevo card worked perfectly! Two Dell cards didnt boot. So that's one mystery solved
  10. clevo version is confirmed to work. Dell card is not working, stuck on boot splash screen.
  11. I'll see tonight. No. It's GT780 - no optimus on sandy bridge MSI. But I've tried clevo vbios on the dell card and it behaves the same. Edit: Okay, new card behaves the same. So we can say for sure that Dell cards do not work in MSI. I've ordered one from the ebay seller you recommended guys. Thanks.
  12. I'm not sure removing bottom cover is a good idea - not sure about the 16F2 but it definitely made things worse on 1761. There is a reason why there are holes on certain places in the bottom cover - the fan is sucking the air through those holes and its cooling some parts on its way to fan where its used to cool the heatsink. As I said - it might be okay on 16f2 and you said you are using cooling pad, just saying that the bottom cover is designed to create air draught. Removing bottom on my gt780 increased the temperature for about 5 degrees.
  13. Well that card says it works in alienware - mine is from alienware. And according to the picture - mine looks exactly the same except is green board not blue. I'll try to swap the card - maybe the card was dead. If that wont help, I'll buy the one you linked guys. Thank you.
  14. ok, i went that far that i flashed my GT780 with whitebook bios. laptop works. card behaves the same. so thats one mystery solved. dell cards do not work in 1761. please send me a link where did you guys buy your card from.
  15. This might be stupid question but I'm running out of options while trying to get gtx 770m work in GT780R. Can I flash 1761 whitebook bios on GT780R machine ? Will that hurt ? I think the motherboards should be same... Edit: I have tried, it works fine.
  16. Are you using MSI bios or unlocked bios? I've installed 770m with Clevo bios and its the same as the dell card :-/ Stuck on msi splash screen. Now, I have MSI GT780R, not DXR - not sure if that matters, but they have same bios AFAIK. I'll try to flash genuine bios from MSI page... otherwise I dont know. Your GT780 supports GTX770m yet mine does not... Edit: genuine MSI BIOS didnt help. Guys, could you please provide me ebay link where did you buy the card from ? - I want to be sure it will be exactly the same card as yours. I found some from upgrademonkey but they say its for Alienware, clevo, msi ... - not sure abou that because the one I have is pulled from alienware.
  17. Okay so I've decided to desolder the chip from the card and flash clevo bios. I'll keep you posted. So far we know that stock Dell card does not work in 1761. Card layout looks exactly the same as clevo, so hopefully the vbios will help.
  18. when in efi-compatible its stuck on msi logo. when in legacy rom the screen is black.
  19. Okay, so Ive tried to install the card. - i have a problem, maybe you might have some ideas. Its a Dell card GTX 770m MSI GT780 - the one that came out with 560m - not GT783 but the bios is the same AFAIK. - using the unlocked bios but in default settings. When I turn the machine on, its stuck on MSI boot screen, in the bottom left corner I can see three options - Del. F11, F3. Nothing from these works. I can only hit ctrl+alt+del to reboot. It wont even flash the screen to enter raid. I know the card is working, otherwise I wouldnt see anything. When I remove it and install Dell GTX675M it works perfectly. Now on that screen I cant enter bios nor boot from flash drive so I cannot flash the card to Clevo vbios. If I run out of options, I'll try to desolder the chip and flash it that way, but Im trying to avoid that. Maybe the vbios isnt problem as other dell cards - 560m 580m 7970m worked fine. I've tried to strip down HDDs and RAMs. Turn the Legacy ROM in modded BIOS (black screen with this, if I revert it back to efi comatible, its stuck on boot screen again) Any ideas ? @Suoah - what BIOS are you using? is it unlocked .30H ?
  20. What do you mean ? Sorry if thats a stupid question... I'm getting a dell card, I'll do the tests over the weekend. So what should I focus on? What do you mean locked at 135+ ?
  21. I did upgrade to 7970m last week, I think that was the best upgrade possible if you consider only gaming. - performance almost like 675M SLI and temperatures ~10 degrees less than 675M. I'm now "downgrading" to GTX770M. It should be still pretty much the same, I'm just more fan of nvidia than AMD, and I really need CUDA - using Adobe CS5, not going to upgrade to CS6 just because of OpenCL support. So I'm willing to sacrifice some of the performance just to stay "green". I'll post the update when I got it working, probably tomorrow.
  22. 1761 does not have integrated gpu. What is happening is that your laptop recognized the card as standard vga adapter. All you need to do is to install nvidia drivers with modded inf. google "nvidia modded inf drivers" GL
  23. Ok, thanks for the info about heatsink! I'm getting Dell card after all. - I can get it for free. Otherwise I'd need to pay for clevo card. Can you please upload your vbios? - I'm not sure maybe the one from clevo has the optimus off so hopefully it will work in my GT780. I flashed clevo/msi bios on many dell cards I got my hands on just like this one and it worked fine everytime, hope the 770m wont be the exception...
  24. Is the heatsink for 580M/675M same ? - I think 570M and 580M are same, not sure though... Would I need to modify my 675M heatsink to use it on 770M ? Also, what vBios do you need? Can I get DELL card ? or do I need something with optimus off ?
