  1. Yes but I've fixed them. You have to install Throttlestop and uncheck BD PROCHOT. Have TS running in the background - no need click "Turn ON" - leave it as it is in "monitoring only" just make sure BD PROCHOT is NOT checked. No issue on 150W acad at all. When I used 120W - it used to switch to battery when I run very demanding game.... like BF4 or Crysis 3, sometimes the ACAD led light just went off and PC swithced to battery - had to disconnect ACAD and connect it again. This was however only with 120W acad and 100W GPU (GTX680M, 675M). For GTX570M and 770M, 120W acad was enough.
  2. Hello, looks like the old sandy bridge laptops 1761 and 16f2 support GTX 970M according to : post#403 http://forum.notebookreview.com/msi/765058-official-msi-gt60-70-970m-980m-upgrade-thread-41.html and http://forum-de.msi.com/index.php?page=Thread&threadID=107088 Looks like they tested Clevo version... now anybody eager to try DELL version ?
  3. In my case it was GPU. Laptop is working fine so far. (3rd GPU... oddly enough the second one was DoA, that confused me) In original post I've also mentioned I've tried several AC adapters.
  4. first of all, "temp when browsing" is very misleading info. Browsing what ? plain text sites ? lots of flash plugins ? depends on lots of things. get a cpu benchmark like prime95 or something and see the temps under full load. 72 is pretty okay I'd say. Im reaching 86-89 during full load.
  5. In theory, yes. You need unlocked bios for that. However, this will also increase RAM frequency, etc. basically everything. Also, you can increase it by roughly 4-5Mhz no more! I might be wrong though. This is a bit risky as far as I know. Never tried it, isnt worth the effort for me. CPU should survive without any problem, it's the motherboard that you put in risk here... You can NOT get it anywhere near 4GHz... and whats the point of OCing for 200Mhz ?
  6. Yes I am. And the reason why, is money. Why would they sell XM version for tripple the price if we could OC cheaper CPU? M and QM versions have locked multipliers. XM is unlocked. By that, I mean it can run its maximum turbo frequency on all 4 cores at the same time. QM can run lets say 4GHz on one core, if two cores are loaded, it runs 3.8GHz. if 3-4 cores are loaded, it runs 3.5GHz. Learn more about intel core i Turbo boost. XM versions are unlocked, able to run max frequency an all 4 cores at the same time. However, you cannot OC it 4.1GHz if its max frequency is 4GHz This is not possible. Its how the CPU is designed. There is no north bridge on the motehrboard to increase FSB frequency. FSB is built in to CPU and CPU decides what frequency it needs to run at.
  7. Processor. You cannot OC this processor. You need extreme edition to be able to do it. the one that ends with XM not QM
  8. Well this is strange... I've also tried those cards and couldnt boot.. it was stuck on MSI splash screen... strange.. probably some different revision ? Not sure...
  9. NO, these cards DOES NOT work in Sandy Bridge laptops - GT780R. They work in GT70. Not in GT780. Are you sure ? I've tried 5 such cards. Directly from MSI GT70 in both GT780DXR (MS-1761) and GT683 (MS-16F2) and none of them booted. Tried 3 dell cards same result. Tried 2 clevo cards and they both worked.
  10. That card does NOT work in GT780. I've tried 3 different cards from DELL. It MIGHT work in GT70 or GT72. However, on Sandy Bridge version (GT780/GX780) works only the blue card from clevo.
  11. You didnt say you want to OC the card. then yes, you need unlocked vbios.. the OC MSI version would be good. I stay with clevo vbios becase it works fine for me. Tried MSI vbios, it was the same, except, one game (company of heroes 2) didnt work on my external monitor - and that specific monitor (in my sig. different monitor worked.). all other games works. Probably just the game itself has the issue. not a big deal. Apart from that, the MSI vbios is the same as clevo vbios. My philosophy is, why change something if it works as I want it to work... And I'm not overclocking the card, I dont need to, I couldnt care less for those 5 extra fps... and I dont care I need modde inf. Not updating drivers every day... Right now I'm stuck to 337.88 as it works wonderfully, had some nasty Bluescreens with 340 series in some games. you dont need unlocked BIOS for the motherboard. It works fine without it. Throttlestop to disable BDprochot - yes. You will need this for SOME demanding titles. Some games run great without it. So for you: -flash OC version of MSI vbios -no need to touch BIOS, its okay as it is. -Run TS for BDprochot when you see stuttering...
  12. 1) use clevo vbios. No flashing needed on GT780DX, it works the same, save yourself a few minutes wasted by flashing. 2)nothing needs to be changed, insert new card and thats it. 3)had the same problem. Remove old GPU, and turn the laptop ON. It should start - it wont boot of course, but you should see at least some led lights flashing and FAN should spin. That means the mobo is okay.
  13. Yes, that's the one. You don't even need to flash vbios, jsut install drivers with modded inf. You can find modded inf in the laptopvideo2go site I've sent you by PM.
  14. different architecture is not a problem... its the way the card is built. Thats why only clevo 770m works. for some reason the dell card has different layout (all the electrical parts, chip is the same, but its the rest of the card that is different.) I have GT780 with GT555M, upgraded to GTX560M, later upgraded to 675M, then to 7970M and then downgraded to GTX770M because I need cuda. All cards worked perfectly. And thats sandy bridge, your laptop (GT70) is newer, and it is even shipped with kepler cards. Just get the clevo card. Heatsink from 675M and 770M is (almost) identical. - some little chips are not covered correctly but it doesnt matter. I had to bought new heatsik when I went from 560M to 675M. Using 675M heatsink with my 770M even right now! - - - Updated - - - this is dell card. it doesnt work in MSI. Even if you flash vBIOS it wont post. Tried it. You can see bios splash screen but it wont get past that point. You need the blue card pulled from clevo laptop. I said "should" because there is always a tiny little chance it wont work. What if the card will be damaged? You will need to return it in warranty. But I'm definitely SURE this is the right card. It's not about wrong decision, blue (clevo) card is confirmed to work. If it won't it's the dead card, not incompatible card. If that happens, just contact seller and let him know the card is Dead on arrival.
  15. You didnt tell us what model do you have. GT780? GT70? 680M, 675MX, 670MX are not compatible with sandy bridge models - 1761(GT780DXR), 16f2(GT683DXR), Any fermi based card should work. The only Kepler that works is 770M-clevo GT555M ? GT280M ? If you are not planning to play games on that laptop anymore, buy the cheapest MXM3.0b card you can find. Maybe even radeon HD5870M If you are trying to replace it with something "similar" I'd go for GTX770M Clevo version (not the one pulled from alienware) You can distinguish the card by its blue board. Dell cards are green - these are not compatible with MSI. 560M, 570M, 675M dell cards work fine. 770M has to be clevo. The deal is 680M is A LOT faster than 770M, that's probably why 770m is cheaper.
  16. it worked for me on 120W acad. So I doubt.
  17. on battery it doesnt run in P0/P1 state. Only 2D clock. 450MHz instad of 620 on your card If I'm not mistaken. Also Volatge is a bit lower.
  18. oh sorry I see, I saw GT60, not GX60 ... well thats true...
  19. 100C is definitely not OK. if thats the temp on your VRAM (not sure how did you measure it since there is no thermal control chip on VRams AFAIK) I'd say its faulty gpu. shutdowns are obvious symptoms.
  20. well define weak laptop CPU. sure it depends on whats the minimum framerate you need for playing, but I was able to get bf4 run on 1080p high + ultra textures on i7 720qm + gtx675M. Framerate never drops below 35 which is pretty much playable for such an old hardware, even on 64player maps. btw, gx60 has 3rd gen core i if Im not mistaken. 2nd gen i7 2630qm is not a bottleneck for 7970m
  21. look it up in ebay and see if it was described as "AS IS" or "not working" You can open a dispute in ebay if the card is damaged. edit: well you can open the claim if its NOT as described. That means, if it does say its not working, you cannot do anything. But I doubt anyone would be selling damaged card for that price...
  22. When I upgraded GT555M to GTX675M (DELL card as well) it happend to me too - DELL vBIOS and backlight control didnt work. It didnt work only in Windows. It worked in BIOS or during MSI splash screen. With MSI vBIOS backlight worked but VGA port did not. I'd try to flash the vBIOS. The flickering is strange though- this shouldnt happen - You said you replaced mobo, I'd check the LCD cable. Maybe its just a loose LCD cable.
  23. all of these (apart form USB) seems to be gpu related - did you have these problem before you upgraded GPU? did you install chipset driver and USB 3 driver ?
  24. its not power supply issue for sure. Are you sure it doesnt work even in BIOS ? It should work right after you turn the pc ON - during MSI logo. It might not work in windows - in taht case its vBIOS issue. But if it flickers, I'd try to reseat the gpu (take it out and put it back in.) also try to open/close lid - it might be loose cable.
  25. you can see that in video settings on the very top. Important to say, its not a miracle, although it does improve performance a bit, its nothing huge. The worst thing is, that it doesnt look so good as it does on DX11. You can find some comparison screenshots.
