  1. I know alot of people that said 16gb works, but really 8 is as much as you need. The performance is bottle-necked by the gpu anyways. As for the HDD to SSD, highly recommend, just make sure your bios is either A05 or a modded A08 with the sata fix, since the regular a08 from dell/alienware limits the sata speed to sata 2. If you dont need your optical drive either, try getting a caddy to replace it with your old hdd and put the new ssd where the original hard drive was. This way you'll have your os and important apps on the ssd, and media on the hdd, since higher capacity ssds can be pretty pricey
  2. I have an r1, and aside from the fan noise and temperature when running graphic intensive applications, its a pretty good laptop. Be sure to get the voltage mod like others suggested and definately recommend upgrading to an ssd, just be sure to update the bios as well, since the r1 runs on SATA II speeds instead of III. Also, it can play most games, just dont expect to max out graphic settings.
  3. Try looking on the lenovo site, without any need for high specs, and seeing as 4gb of ram is pretty common, you most certaintly won't break the bank with a thinkpad and they have a history for being reliable!
  4. The separate install is pretty much bootcamp. Definately recommend upgrading to ssd but if you are partitioning your ssd, i'd go for a minimum of 256gb capacity. Music and audio production should be fine on the pro since most programs like garageband are single threaded, battlefield can run, but the gpu on the mbp 15 isn't ideal for gaming and will probably run hot.
  5. If you have money go for the 840 pro, but really a regular 840 and even the crucial m4 will work well. Specs wise the later two cannot compare to the pro, but in real use, the differences are not huge and you probably wont recognize it.
