If someone want upgrade Wi-Fi card and remove whitelist, or unlock hidden additional menus and settings in bios setup menu, or unlocked vbios for overclock NVIDIA card, then you can post your request in this thread. Also, if you have a problem with fan pulsating/clicking on any modified bios then you can post your request in this thread. The flashing procedure include two steps: 1. Flash main system bios. 2. Flash EC firmware.

    My 2570p successfully modified with X230's LG IPS Panel The first thing I did was removing all the magnesium guinding lines for antenna wires and LCD cable compartment screw mounting holes that were on the LCD's way. And because the LCD cable compartment can't be screwed anymore it's held on place with epoxy. Removing the the panel's screw mounting points was the most risky part, but the metal was soft enough to be cut with long scissors. That required replacing the LCD tape, otherwise screen layers would come off. I used kapton tape covered with electric tape all along the edges. LCD cable appeared to be flexible enough to reach LCD's connector. The X230's panel is much thinner so there was enough room to do it. The last thing to do was adapting the LCD bezel to the new screen. Because X230's panel is higher (the location of the circuit board) I had to cut 4 milimeters from the top of the LCD bezel. The different screen height exposed bottom LCD tape, so I replaced it with black tape. I also had to remove LCD bezel's bottom latches, now it's held on place with double-sided tape. You'll get almost complete control over the performance parameters of your GPU.     For those who don't like the restrictions Lenovo put on their system, here's a BIOS mod that will get you back at least some of the freedom you should have over your own hardware. Features: WLAN card whitelist removed, any (hardware-wise compatible) card should now work hidden BIOS menus unlocked VBIOS tweaked for more performance and better tuning possibilities Keep in mind that not necessarily all of the BIOS options available with this mod will be fully functional, so use the new available settings with care. If you're unsure about something don't change it and ask here, someone might be able to help. Available for v1.07 / v1.09 / v1.10 and v3.05. v2.04 and v2.07 added (only whitelist removal as for now) If you have a different BIOS (or more specific, a BIOS newer than 3.05) I will need a copy of it in order to make it work for your system. Instructions for flashing the modified BIOS v3.05: You need a USB stick prepared to run DOS, here is a guide you can follow in case you don't know how to do this: Guide by @StamatisX - thanks! >>> Before continuing make sure the AC adapter is connected to your laptop and your battery has at least 20% charge remaining. <<< (0) - NOTE: This step is Only necessary if your system isn't already using BIOS v3.05 Update to the official v3.05 BIOS provided by Lenovo . (1) - Create a backup of your own BIOS (now v3.05) by using Fptw64 tool. Extract the files and run the included .bat file from an admin command prompt. . (2) - Download Lenovo_Y510p-Y410p_[v3.05]_modified.zip and put the files of folder [1] to the root of your prepared USB DOS stick. Let the BiosFixer prepare your BIOS for flashing by drag and dropping your backup file on it. Put the created "v305mod.bin" file to the root of your USB DOS drive as well. . (3) - Now you need to downgrade the firmware back to v2.07 (Y510p-Y410p_v207_[stock].zip) in order to flash the mod. . (4) - Boot from your USB DOS drive, when you see the command prompt type BIOS and hit enter. Wait until the BIOS is flashed (you can safely ignore warnings about non-existing regions). . (5) - Once the BIOS flash completed with no errors, type EC and hit enter. Wait until the EC is flashed. Then reboot. . (6) - Go to the BIOS setup menu, load the default settings, apply and reboot. Done. In case you're using an ultra bay GPU follow the instructions in post #2 and flash the vbios.. NOTE: It's crucial that you flash both, BIOS and EC. Having different EC and BIOS versions can in certain situations lead to issues. IMPORTANT: If you want to go back to stock v3.05 you can do that easily by simply using the official update from Lenovo. That's it, nothing additional required in this case.     I have to give my review from someone very inexperienced.. and say I will need some help to complete this flash to my y510p. I guess things went real smooth until I found out that the video was removed and I seemed unable to complete making a copy of my bios and drag/drop to place on my pen drive. I used rufus to make the boot drive but when I tried to flash the bios didn't stick but the ec did. I was able to boot back up and bring my bios back to 3.05. After running through the process again when I got to the point of taking the bios back to version 207(stock) I received a warning that my bios did not match?... Went to Lenovo to download and reinstall the bios(v3.05) but they have moved up to 3.08 now so I did not install it. Perhaps someone could tell me how to get back on track and be successful with this. My 7260 is burning a hole in the package it came in..... Below Is the final result of my pen drive contents......

For creating bios backup and to flash bios mod, you must use any SPI programmer (like CH341A programmer) and a SOIC8/SOP8 test clip! Just dump your Bios using any SPI programmer (like CH341A programmer) and a SOIC8/SOP8 test clip, then post it in this thread or upload it to any fileserver and send me the link.

Nvidia 'Kepler' GPUs - modified VBIOS files >>> NOTE: More versions (including voltage mods) exclusive for T|I users can be found in the second post. <<< The 'Kepler' GPUs from Nvidia perform really well, even at increased clocks speeds they stay quite cool - a perfect behavior when it comes to overclocking and improving the performance. Unfortunately the mobile GPUs suffer from an artificial +135MHz core overclocking limit, so you can't go higher by using tools like Nvidia Inspector and similar. The modified VBIOS files listed here have this limit unlocked, some have increased stock clocks or tweaked voltages. Just refer to the description. The required BIOS file(s) for your specific notebook. 3. AC Adapter plugged into notebook. 4. Some common sense and bravery. Add the three (3) files: "BIOS".ROM, AFUDOS.exe and update.bat to your flash drive. The root folder works best. Double check the READ ME.txt that you are about to flash the correct BIOS for your notebook. 2. Plug in USB drive and shut down your notebook. 3. Power on the notebook and during POST hit F11. This will bring up the boot menu, select your USB drive and hit enter. 4. In DOS, type:* This will start the flashing process. Warning: Once you hit enter, you CANNOT stop the flashing process. If you interrupt it via shutdown or remove its power source, you will brick your notebook with 100% certainty. 5. Sit back and wait for the process to complete itself. Note: Your fan will spin at 100% speed, it will be very loud. This is normal. Once your BootBlock has been verified and the command prompt comes back up, the process is complete.* Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete to restart your notebook and hit Delete to enter the BIOS. If your BIOS looks exactly the same as before and the flashing process came back with no errors, then you have to boot into Windows and shut down your notebook, NOT restart. Then check it out. Warning: The BIOS might reset the SATA mode into RAID. Please double check in the 'Advanced' tab that it is set to whichever mode you were using or else your boot manager may get corrupted. Case 1: In case of a GOOD flash, but you still cannot enter BIOS or boot into Windows: Common symptoms include: Endless looping reboots, inability to access the BIOS, permanent black screen, persistent BSODs in Windows or stuttering. The most likely cause was that your image was successfully overwritten, but some values may have changed internally and the BIOS may be having a hard time accepting them. If everything was a success and your notebook boots into one of the situations mentioned above, before trying a blind-flash recovery, UNPLUG the wire leading to your CMOS battery for 5-10 seconds.* This will RESET the stored values in the BIOS to their defaults. If this does not solve the problem, then a blind-flash will be required. Case 2: In case of a BAD flash, a blind-flash will be required. 1. Remove any files from your USB that aren't the necessary bootable DOS files. 2. Pick a ROM you want to flash (doesn't have to be the original), but it MUST be one for your notebook specifically. 3. Rename the file.ROM to AMIBOOT.ROM and put it on your flash drive. 4. Plug in your flash drive in a USB 2.0 slot. 5. As soon as your notebook turns on and nothing is displayed, spam Ctrl + Home (In my case, the MS-16F2 is Ctrl + Fn + PgUp or Ctrl + Shift + NumPad 7). 6.     Asus G75VW - modified BIOS / VBIOS Here's a modified BIOS for the Asus G75VW. It enables some more options and settings in the BIOS setup. It also contains a tweaked VBIOS for the 660m. Detailed version information: mod02 'GHZ edition' - 660m 3d clocks at 1000MHz core - 670m @ 715/1650 (only in 'overclock edition') additional BIOS menus Pics of the most interesting BIOS settings (thanks @bobby7): Instructions: Download the BIOS you want to flash, as well as the flash tool (Win64). Put the modified BIOS (and included files) in the same folder as the flash tool . Make sure that your current BIOS version is the same as the one you want to flash.     Lenovo Y500 - 'unlocked' BIOS / wwan-wlan whitelist removal The Lenovo Y580 / Y480 comes with a pretty locked down BIOS, and in addition to this with a whitelist which prevents the user from getting 3rd-party wwan/wlan cards to work properly. The modified BIOS versions here will take care of this. Keep in mind that not necessarily all options available in the modified bios will work. Some might not do anything at all, others could possibly leave your system in a state which will prevent it from booting. Use care when changing stuff in the modified bios, don't touch things you're not familiar with. Use all the mods and software posted here on your own risk. NOTE: This will only flash the bios region. It won't reset the nvars set in the bios. While it is technically possible to update from v2.0x to v8.01 by using the method described below, I can't really recommend it since the EC of your system won't get updated. While it might work (possibly even without any issues) I can't recommend it. Therefore if you're on v2.0x and want to update, the better option is to wait until Lenovo provides an official 8.xx firmware update with EC and BIOS. You can then still flash the modified version as described below, once you're on a proper v8.xx firmware. Download the flash tool, for flashing you'll need the DOS version, but for creating the backup of your current BIOS the Win64 version will do as well, and it is faster. Get the prr tool as well. Grab the modified BIOS you want to flash and the Y580-Y480_BiosFix tool. Create a backup of your current BIOS using the flash tool you downloaded (first step) by runing the included backup.bat, or by using the Win or Dos version flash tool with this command: -d BackupBiosY500.bin -bios If you get and 'Error 104', grab 'Error 104' fix and replace the original fparts file with it. . Make sure you have the modified bios which you want to flash, the bios backup you just created and the "Y580-Y480_BiosFix" tool in the same folder. Run the Y580-Y480_BiosFix tool, follow the instructions on the screen. Enter the name of the files correctly, else you'll get an error. It will create a new file for you and will be named after the modified bios file you specified, with 'Fix' appended to it. Here's a screenshot of the tool in use (Y580 version looks the same). In the case shown here it will create a file called "modifiedBiosFix.bin" which you can find in the folder where you run the tool. Use that one for flashing. Put the fixed BIOS, the prr.exe tool and the fpt.exe (along with the fparts.txt file) on the root of your prepared DOS bootable USB drive, restart your system and boot from that drive. Execut the prr.exe, if you don't get an error message continue by pressing enter. Then flash the bios by using this command (filename.bin obviously needs to be replaced with the name of the file you want to flash). If you can't remember the name of your file, use the command dir to display all the files on your drive. Flash with this: fpt.exe -f filename.bin -bios NOTE: The name of the BIOS file mustn't exceed eight characters (not counting the extension)! That's a DOS limit, so make sure the name of your file isn't too long. Wait until the process is done. After flashing it will verify the data, in case there's something wrong with the flashed data it will tell you. In that case don't reboot, just flash again. It might look a bit complicated at first, but that's the easiest way I could think of. Let me know if anything is unclear. Both based on A08, but with the same SATA performance as in A05.This allows GF106 users which are still on A05 to benefit from the fixes included in A08 while keeping the SATA performance of A05 and it allows GF116 users to get the benefits of A05 SATA behavior.It's actually the result of trying to bring GF116 support to A05 in order to change the SATA behavior (as requested by he_yincheng), since this didn't work as planned I tried it the other way around - bringing the SATA performance of A05 to A08, which succeeded.     The 'Kepler' GPUs from Nvidia perform really well, even at increased clocks speeds they stay quite cool - a perfect behavior when it comes to overclocking and improving the performance. Unfortunately the mobile GPUs suffer from an artificial +135MHz core overclocking limit, so you can't go higher by using tools like Nvidia Inspector and similar.     In case you own a Lenovo Y410p or Y510p laptop, you might be interested in upgrading its performance by installing an external graphics card. Ultrabay eGPU adapter designed by @gerald was proven to be a convenient plug-and-play option to do exactly that. However, for a long time only an AMD-branded GPUs could be used due to limitations in the Lenovo's stock BIOS. The purpose of the modified firmware presented here is to expand the range of available GPUs by enabling Nvidia support on Gerald's Ultrabay eGPU adapter. Huge thanks to: @MWichni - For efficiently assisting me during the development of this mod. By flashing dozens of BIOS builds over the course of several weeks and thoroughly describing the effects observed (or the lack thereof), he enabled me to fully understand necessary parts in BIOS structure and come up with a final solution. @svl7 - Whose unlocked BIOS / Whitelist mod has served as a basis for this modification. His discovery of a security hole in V2.07 BIOS has provided us with a convenient BIOS flashing method that does not require a physical programmer.     Nice, if you are going to cut some holes or modify the backplate you could maybe fit something like a low profile cooler like the SlimHero 56mm tal (136W TDP) or maybe the Noctua NH-L9 37mm tal (65W TDP). That would probably fix all throlttling issues and allow you to run a bit higher clocks also if you can mod the socket to fit. Unfortunately, in F.73 bios FDO hotkey is banned - nb just turns off right after start, so additional flash descriptor region edit is needed. Here is patched bios section binary for your needs. It contains: no WWAN/WLAN/Bluetooth whitelist, no SecureUpdating module, no CompuTrace modules, BIOS lock removed, no_ASPM_bit in FACP is reset. No NVRAM. How to flash: Get a full dump of your stock bios, make a backup Extract the NVRAM section from it with UEFITool (BIOS Region => FFF12B8D-7696..., Extract as is) In hex editor open the full dump and replace bios section, start address 0xB00000 ($LOGO string) Replace the NVRAM section with yours in UEFITool (Replace as is) Edit FDT at address 0x60 00 00 0B 0A 00 00 0D 0C 18 01 08 08 => 00 00 FF FF 00 00 FF FF 18 01 FF FF And flash it with hardware programmer.     Well, guys. I've successfully managed to get an unwhitelisted BIOS from F40 just according to @adrian_sa reference, and also shrinked the MEI firmware. There is two things to notice: 1. use UEFITool (non- NE Alpha -version) to drop unnecessary modules, and Andy's Tool to determine what modules is needed to be dropped. Last one reads module names better, but first one rebuilds modified image correctly. 2. Internal programming is impossible at this moment, since even after descriptor overrided there are some locked regions remains. But, forget about it - if you flash broken image, laptop will turn into aluminium brick. It even will not turn on. External programmer is needed in any case. But well, i'm not interested in a loss of bunch of time when trying to get mSATA to work by replacing modules from similar platforms. I've built coreboot with platform config modification - just replaced 0x33 for 'sata_port_map' to 0x3f in 'devicetree.cb' file for our notebook. And - yup - it works, mSATA is binded to the SATA port2, correct value is 0x37. If someone want to make it usable just as ASPM was done - you may use setpci and this file for reference, but more work than just 'setpci -s 0:1f.2 92.w=8337' need to be done there. Full SATA reinitialization in most difficult case.

    New user reporting in. Even though I haven't received 2570p in my hands yet, i'm curious, is anyone tried an socket eDP mod? Since eDP is coming right from CPU and it's socketed in this model, there is not too much trouble to achieve it without loss of docking station functionality. One trouble is inversion schematic for eDP_HPD signal, but theoretically that input can be permanently soldered to vtt or gnd. There are 3 variants: 1. just solder wires under the socket - if corresponding eDP pads exist on the other side of the motherboard; 2. place wires between socket and CPU, with inserting copper leads in the socket pits or making a lasso around corresponding CPU pins with it; 3. unsolder these pins from the CPU and solder wires to the CPU instead - very hard and compromise variant, actual in case when pins not hang in the air as described in schematic for the 2560p. Yup, this is theory, but chances to get it to work are pretty big i think. Also question for @adrian_sa, how do you set the PWM freq in the bios? Since bios unwhitelisting method is revealed, it's possible to make some good bios mods and fixes. some nb: 2570p:

    The guy sold me a dead 880M. I have since realized that the 880M was a pretty crappy card. I rebuild and fix Alienware machines as a hobby and since this post, I now have 3 dead 880M's from different machines. The 780M has just about the same performance as the 880M but runs cooler and has less failures. The 980M is a great card but a lot of people had issues with SLI as they are pretty power hungry. I now have a GTX 1070 in my M18x R2. The only issue is that it likes to power throttle so each time I boot I go into the BIOS and set the video to iGFX and then reboot and set it back to SG. Then it works really well.

    I've recently watched a movie called Crypto (2019) and liked it a lot. It's about cryptocurrency and it was quite interesting especially for me as I'm a beginner trader in instaforex company founded by Ildar Sharipov I found some new info and now there's a lot to think about.

    Wow $100 is a great deal! I got mine for $220AUD which is about $150USD but they are very rare down here so they are usually worth around the $400AUD mark. I used to have the small briefcase for it. I remember it being a really tight fit. I will try to keep mine but if I get a good offer I will let it go.     The best performing drivers for me right now are the 425.31 with the j95 standard inf for PEG. The performance is so good actually that it makes me smile sometimes. It's crazy to get such good performance on a mobile platform. I don't really trust Prema, as he has released crippled bioses and refused to update them in the past (I own a Eurocom). But his buddy j95's driver inf's are pretty good. For example, Prema released a "V2" bios for my specific model that added a 78 degree limit on the GPU, whereas with the "V1" version there was a 92 degree limit. That's 14 degrees of headroom, in my opinion that is definitely crippling a mobile gaming system. Anyway, any driver beyond 425.31 removes the boost ability on mobile cards so that's a definite no-go for me. I can play Wolfenstein New Order right now with all settings maxed out at 2048x1152 at a constant 60fps, butter smooth and the GPU (980m) only hits ~65 degrees when it's constantly boosting (1228mhz) at 60 percent load. That's pretty impressive. I did massively reduce voltages in my custom gtx980m bios but I haven't had a single driver crash or bsod with my custom bios so there seems to be tons of headroom for reducing voltages on the maxwell "2" cards (900 series). Right now in a 72 degree room, my gpu will never reach it's thermal limit, The highest I've seen is ~85 when doing long periods of CUDA video encoding at 100 percent load. Note: The 425.31 driver inf for Windows 7 is erroneously listed as version 435.31 in his Mega download folder. J95 driver infs mega link - https://mega.nz/#F!N6RVAKyK!NiT4iTslHkIr0bHWvvrgPQ On Windows 7 you may need to install Nvidia Inspector by orbmu2k and run it with the launch option -multidisplaypowersaver to stop the card from constantly changing P states. This doesn't happen in Windows 10. You can then add whatever programs to the Multi Display Power Saver 2D or 3D list. It will automatically then force those Pstates for your programs in the list. You don't really need this on Windows 10 but I find that using the maximum performance setting in Nvidia control panel in conjunction with Multi Display Power Saver is the only way to ensure maximum boost at all times. Like I mentioned earlier, anything beyond 425.31 completely disables boost on mobile cards. As an aside, right now I am on Windows 10 v1809 (The last version without DX 12 ray tracing extensions) with 425.31 and I get excellent performance. I just add whatever game to the Multi Display Power Saver "3D" list and set the performance setting for that game in Nvidia Control Panel to "prefer maximum performance." Obviously it's up to you to tweak your individual games as well. Most of the time support is stopped on a game before all of the performance fixes are found and implemented. I've found many simple tweaks that massively helped performance and things like stuttering in games. Most of the time I just disable DOF either in the game settings or by config tweak and that's enough. It eats performance and is a completely useless effect. In real life the second you look at something, it comes into focus. DOF just blurs the background no matter what which is a dumb effect. I also disable any post-process antialiasing which is not needed on high resolution monitor. Usually 2x msaa or no msaa is fine depending on the resolution. So for me basically, all effects like shadows and lighting, tesselation, lod bias etc. as high as they go, and keep post-process effects to the minimum including DOF, motion blur, any kind of blur really and dumb effects like that. Like, blur is okay on a desktop gui, but definitely not in any video games. Totally useless effect imho and very gpu intensive. I don't know a single game actually where any kind of blur including DOF made it look any better. You need Nvidia Inspector, not Nvidia Profile Inspector.     One fact to HP: If they offer two different mainboards for your system (one for dual- and one for quadcores) you may run a quadcore on a dual core board. I am doing this with my 8770w since 4 months now without any problems. I think, the dual core board just misses two memory sockets.
