    For those who don't like the restrictions Lenovo put on their system, here's a BIOS mod that will get you back at least some of the freedom you should have over your own hardware. Features: WLAN card whitelist removed, any (hardware-wise compatible) card should now work hidden BIOS menus unlocked VBIOS tweaked for more performance and better tuning possibilities Keep in mind that not necessarily all of the BIOS options available with this mod will be fully functional, so use the new available settings with care. If you're unsure about something don't change it and ask here, someone might be able to help. Available for v1.07 / v1.09 / v1.10 and v3.05. v2.04 and v2.07 added (only whitelist removal as for now) If you have a different BIOS (or more specific, a BIOS newer than 3.05) I will need a copy of it in order to make it work for your system. Instructions for flashing the modified BIOS v3.05: You need a USB stick prepared to run DOS, here is a guide you can follow in case you don't know how to do this: Guide by @StamatisX - thanks! >>> Before continuing make sure the AC adapter is connected to your laptop and your battery has at least 20% charge remaining. <<< (0) - NOTE: This step is Only necessary if your system isn't already using BIOS v3.05 Update to the official v3.05 BIOS provided by Lenovo . (1) - Create a backup of your own BIOS (now v3.05) by using Fptw64 tool. Extract the files and run the included .bat file from an admin command prompt. . (2) - Download Lenovo_Y510p-Y410p_[v3.05]_modified.zip and put the files of folder [1] to the root of your prepared USB DOS stick. Let the BiosFixer prepare your BIOS for flashing by drag and dropping your backup file on it. Put the created "v305mod.bin" file to the root of your USB DOS drive as well. . (3) - Now you need to downgrade the firmware back to v2.07 (Y510p-Y410p_v207_[stock].zip) in order to flash the mod. . (4) - Boot from your USB DOS drive, when you see the command prompt type BIOS and hit enter. Wait until the BIOS is flashed (you can safely ignore warnings about non-existing regions). . (5) - Once the BIOS flash completed with no errors, type EC and hit enter. Wait until the EC is flashed. Then reboot. . (6) - Go to the BIOS setup menu, load the default settings, apply and reboot. Done. In case you're using an ultra bay GPU follow the instructions in post #2 and flash the vbios.. NOTE: It's crucial that you flash both, BIOS and EC. Having different EC and BIOS versions can in certain situations lead to issues. IMPORTANT: If you want to go back to stock v3.05 you can do that easily by simply using the official update from Lenovo. That's it, nothing additional required in this case.     UPDATE: ALL DOWNLOADS LISTED IN THIS POST FOUND HERE. Nvidia 'Kepler' GPUs - modified VBIOS files >>> NOTE: More versions (including voltage mods) exclusive for T|I users can be found in the second post. <<< The 'Kepler' GPUs from Nvidia perform really well, even at increased clocks speeds they stay quite cool - a perfect behavior when it comes to overclocking and improving the performance. Unfortunately the mobile GPUs suffer from an artificial +135MHz core overclocking limit, so you can't go higher by using tools like Nvidia Inspector and similar. The modified VBIOS files listed here have this limit unlocked, some have increased stock clocks or tweaked voltages. Just refer to the description.     .If you're interested why not all modified BIOS versions can be flashed the 'usual' way with the official tools, read this:http://forum.techinferno.com/alienware/2252-information-about-bios-updates-a07-a08-higher-m14xr2-m17xr4-m18xr2.html M18x R2 - 'unlocked' BIOS versions The following BIOS of the Alienware M18x have been modified so that all hidden menus and options are visible. It will allow you to further tweak your system and optimize its peformance. Most of the options are only meant for advanced users. Don’t change anything you’re not sure about. It's possible that you see options which don’t work for your system, so be careful when changing settings. In case you mess up and your system refuses to boot applying new settings, remove the AC adapter, battery and coin cell battery in order to clear the non-volatile ram of the BIOS. This should fix most issues. *UPDATE*Instructions: There are two ways to flash the modified BIOS: Downgrade to stock A03 by using the USB recover procedure. (Thanks @Scott Matusow for summarizing the procedure). Make sure to closely follow the instructions, and wait until the system is done with the flash. Once you're on A03 flash the modified BIOS using the regular way (using the tools provided by Dell)..This method seems to work very well on the M18x R2, at least as long as you do as instructed. It can be a bit scary though since you can't see what's happening. .. Flash the BIOS from DOS with the FPT tool. This will only flash the BIOS part and leave out the EC and so on. It's a really safe option when done properly and less scary since you see the progress and information on the screen. For the USB recovery method follow the instructions in the link above. Second possibility - flashing from DOS: Prepare an USB drive so that it can boot DOS. If you don't know how to do this, check the instructions in the spoiler. . Grab the DOS version of fpt for flashing, and my 'prr tool' to circumvent write protection.. Download a '[FPT]' labeled version of the unlocked BIOS. Put the DOS version of the flash tool on the root of the prepared USB stick (fpt.exe and fparts.txt), along with the prr.exe and the file you want to flash (plus the included flash.bat). . Restart the system and boot from your USB stick. Run prr.exe, then flash the bios by executing the flash.bat file. Wait until the tool completes the flash. If the verification is okay, reboot, else flash again.. Go to the bios, load the default settings and reboot. Done. NOTE: If you want to use an unlocked BIOS newer than A03 I highly recommend to first flash the desired version of the unmodified BIOS (grab it at the Dell download site). Once you're on the version you want to unlock, follow the DOS flashing procedure described above. If you want to go A03 or earlier, the best thing to do is using the USB recovery method.     I have to give my review from someone very inexperienced.. and say I will need some help to complete this flash to my y510p. I guess things went real smooth until I found out that the video was removed and I seemed unable to complete making a copy of my bios and drag/drop to place on my pen drive. I used rufus to make the boot drive but when I tried to flash the bios didn't stick but the ec did. I was able to boot back up and bring my bios back to 3.05. After running through the process again when I got to the point of taking the bios back to version 207(stock) I received a warning that my bios did not match?... Went to Lenovo to download and reinstall the bios(v3.05) but they have moved up to 3.08 now so I did not install it. Perhaps someone could tell me how to get back on track and be successful with this. My 7260 is burning a hole in the package it came in..... Below Is the final result of my pen drive contents......

    Hey guys, I didn't see an "Introduce Yourself" thread or subforum, so I guess I'll start one here in OT. I've been registered at T|I for over a year on another account, but I've decided to keep my account name the same as the one I've had on NBR, so I just registered this one today. My name is Mike and I'm a notebook enthusiast, just like you all. My first gaming notebook was a Gateway P-7811FX, which was a great buy at the time, until the dreaded GPU problems started to surface. I did a review at NBR on it. My first taste in modding (software & hardware) started with that machine. Last year, I purchased a MSI 16F2 barebone which was a hell of a deal and I can't wait to put a 7970M in that baby, or possibly a 680M GTX if everything plays right with that card and my machine. I've also unlocked most of the MSI 1st and 2nd generation-core i notebook's BIOS which I posted at NBR. I was hoping to get the multipliers unlocked for my XM CPU, but unfortunately, AMI has let us down . At the very least, the BCLK is unlocked for a measly 3-5% OC. As you can see, I really loved NBR and notebooks, I was one of the oldest members there, having lurked for a good year before deciding to register, but things weren't all rosy in the end. So, how did I end up at T|I? Actually, I've been lurking T|I for a long time. The ICD7/24 thread, TS and svl7's threads are what got me started here. You guys aren't just reposters, you are hands-on people, original devs. I've grown incredibly tired of the lack of respect at NBR. I haven't bothered to continue my work on the BIOS after MU went down, as people were reposting my work and taking credit for it or begging. While it is free and I didn't take any donations for it, I was the one who did all the Googling, trying to decipher bad translations, downloading files with no documentation or clue as to what they did and had to figure it out on my own, and lastly, I was the guinea pig. I put my $1,200 notebook on the line for the better of the community and I would still get PMs filled with bad attitude and idiots who bricked their notebooks and blamed me for it because they couldn't read or had an incredible lack of common sense. The least one could do was give credit where credit was due, like I said, I never asked for a penny, unlike most BIOS unlocking forums. Heck, anyone who PM'ed me asking how I did it, I would straight up tell them everything, including linking the files needed and all directions. For a good week or two of my time and a some bad headaches, they had it handed to them on a silver plate in 5 minutes. The most frustrating PMs would be that I was rep whoring and anyone could have done the work I did. Well guess what? You didn't do it and I never rep-whored once I my life, if you look at the original post I give credit to my original testers, but I never say +rep me for my work. So, my journey at T|I posting starts today and I hope I can be of value here just as I was at NBR. I don't carry a vengeance against NBR, but the overall quality of the news page and forum has diminished significantly to a point where I barely enjoy browsing it. Also, this not a PG-13 forum, hurrah. So how about it, let's here how you all got started at T|I and a little bit about yourselves? FYI, the links are for reference, I'm not plugging my links for clicks/views as I don't benefit from it. I'm also not attempting to start a flame NBR thread (If there is an issue you can delete this thread without warning, I understand), but I notice that many of T|I members are also NBR members or were at one point so I believe a connection can be established.

Put the modified BIOS (and included files) in the same folder as the flash tool . Make sure that your current BIOS version is the same as the one you want to flash. Then create a backup of your BIOS by executing the backup.bat file. . Download the 'G75VW-BiosFixer.zip, put it in the same folder as the flash too and run it. Follow the instructions on the screen, it will ask you for the BIOS backup you just created, as well as the modified BIOS file which you already downloaded. . If the tool doesn't come up with an error message, go ahead and flash the created file by executing the included flash.bat file. . Wait until the flashing is done, in case everything's okay you can reboot. NOTE: It's a good idea to go to load the default BIOS settings after flashing.     Ok. Your vBIOS mod done. I placed it into this link: https://files.fm/u/tchynptrg 1. Completely uninstall MSI Afterburner (if it installed) with all settings. Reboot laptop. 2. Download and extract archive luks.rar 4. Flash your vBIOS mod (just run the command file flash.bat ). Reboot laptop. 5. Done. Also, I recommend after any vBIOS flashing, then reinstall NVIDIA drivers with enabled option "Clean Install".

The orom comes from the station-drivers site, not sure whether it will work fine with the M18x, though I don't really see why it shouldn't. Btw, something's weird with the original orom in the R1 BIOS, the checksum is wrong... confusing. Anyway, here's the BIOS, let me know how it performs.     Well I know who should demand a partial payment for every user helped, TechInferno and Svl7. Dell/AW should have to share a % of all their warranty contracts they sell. Since they don't provide much support *cough* anyways, why shouldn't those who do the tinkering and carry the support burden that Dell/AW should be doing not be rewarded by Dell\AW. Heck why not give these experts the models, source code, bios data, etc., they could then outsource to a new way, tech forum experts. Once again thanks to svl7 for the bios mods. Thank you also to all the members to Tech Inferno who without many of us would be starring at a blank screen. For those who want to get the best out of the parts that might be limited by companies like Dell\AW this is your place to come. The drivers are very reliable and are often referenced by many sites. I don't think they would always be mentioned if the drivers weren't top shelf. This is what I would have expected Dell to provide with my Alienware M17x R4, after all I pad a premium and it should be for just the alien logo or fancy looking case.

    You could try the BIOS that I use. I modded the vBIOS of svl7's unlocked bios to 1,2GHz core and 2,8GHz memory clock. I also tweaked the voltage, it stays always at 1,1V, so that the 660m can handle the 1,2GHz stable all the time. The last tweak is that the clocks of the 660m won't throttle. so beware of the temperatures. Try it out! For me it solved the problem with throttling in Crysis 3. But before flashing you should reset your overclock! You can add your +150Mhz later after trying Y580_v2.07_660m1,20GHz_steady Voltage_2,8GHzMem_nothrottling.zip

    Hi! I checked your new file bios dump 4MB, unfortunately it's not correct. You need to read your bios dump from your bios chip 4MB again, may be multiple times and then compare in any hex editor (for example HxD), all dumps should be identical. If you will meet with some problems with read bios dump from your bios chip, then try to use different software version.     Hello Guys this is my first post here! So my original post was this: "I don't even know if any active forum is out there on this laptop and on this issue, but after installing my new DHCG2 LTN173HT02 120hz display, I am unable to boot up on it. I do have a modded bios which the video setting is set to PEG, and just about read every forum about this but have not found a solution. I have tried resetting the bios, made sure the cable is plugged into the Edp port, and have made sure I have an UFEI Windows installation and legacy mode is turned off. I don't know what else to do and if anyone could help it would mean alot to me! " The reason it was not booting up on a pure UEFI environment is because my 660m did not have the GOP compliant driver vbios. You would need this in order to boot up in a pure UEFI environment which at the time I didn't know, and my fix was to stick to legacy. Any card before the 660m will most likely require this if you need to boot up in a pure UEFI environment. If you do not have this vbios driver while it is set to UEFI and plug in the 120hz lcd, it will beep 8 times and you will be forced to plug back in the 60hz display to change it back to legacy. This was the vbios that I can say worked for me and had the GOP compliant driver for the 660m https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/144032/144032 ------------------------------------------------------------------ These are the steps to upgrade from a normal 1600x900 60hz display to a 1920x1080 3D 120hz Display which is needed if you want to update your graphics card to a more modern one. I am making this guide because I felt frustrated that for this awesome computer, there aren't really any post in 2020 to upgrade the LCD panel to the 3D 120hz one. And The older posts I scavaged through really helped me little in doing this upgrade. Anyways lets begin 1) If you have a stock AMD graphics card, and are wanting to install the 120hz display, then your journey ends here and you will have to upgrade to an NVIDIA graphics card to do so. If you have an NVIDIA, you may continue 1a) ( Only if upgrading to pascal graphics card )Your NVIDIA card Needs to have a GOP compliant vbios or else it will not let you select the UEFI option on the bios. This is needed because you need to set a UEFI environment before upgrading to a 1060/1070 Since these cards don't support legacy mode. This means you will need to flash a vbios onto your card that will allow you to boot on a UEFI Environment. You will need to verify first wether your card has a GOP compliant vbios by searching up your vbios version in GPU-Z. If you have a 660m that doesn't have this, then here is the link to that vbios that does. https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/144032/144032 I think that all of the Nvida 6XXm are not GOP driver compliant and need this but do not quote me. 2) On the 60hz display, I would start by making sure that you have windows 10 installed or reinstall with UEFI support as it is needed if you are installing a pascal graphics card. If you have legacy mode enabled, and are not planning to upgrade to a pascal graphics card and keeping your old Nvidia 6XXM, then disregard this and head on to step 5 (although I would recommend to read everything) 3) turn the laptop off and boot into the bios. In order to boot into the bios, spam the F2 key while it is turning on. 4) Once in the bios, go to the Boot menu, and make sure to Disable "Secure Boot", Make sure that importantly if you converted over to a UEFI installation of windows, UEFI mode is chosen (UEFI Environment will be needed for a pascal graphic card and legacy will not be compatible) then again, if you are on a legacy installation of windows 10, disregard this if you don't want to upgrade to a pascal graphics card. 5) we can now start looking at the 120hz display. If yours did not come with the cables, You will also NEED to get the video cable it is required. the Dell Part number is N392W. I cannot stress enough This video cable is required and the 60hz's video cable CANNOT be used with the 120hz one or else you will brick your computer from what I read. 7) Once it comes In, we can start to take apart the computer to Install our new display. I watched this video to remove the old 60hz and install the 120hz panel 8) Before I would remove the whole 60hz lcd panel, I would first make sure that you can boot on the 120hz panel. Notice that there is one connecter with screws on both sides right next to where the 60hz screen connecter is. Make sure that you put the 120hz one with the connector where screws are. This is known as the Edp port and cannot be confused with the LVDS port. Again, you want to plug the new 120hz display into the EDP port and unplug the 60hz one. 9) If the installation was done correctly, then you should have no problem booting with the screen. if it is giving you 8 beeps, then just plug in the 60hz display, and navigate back to the bios to make sure everything is in order and refer back to steps 2-3. If you happen to be an advanced user like me and went ahead and installed a modded bios, then on the 60hz display make sure that the video setting is set to PEG. I dont think this is necessary to have a modded bios since the bios automatically changes the video setting when the 120hz display is detected and should be a last resort option to install a modded bios. I got my modded A12 bios from a guy in this forum named klem for 10 US dollars thorough paypal. Shoot him a message in the forum below. 10) Once the new LCD is tested and you know you can boot up with no problems, go ahead and finish removing the old 60hz LCD and proceed to finish installing the 120hz LCD. And you are done. A couple of words from my personal experience: When I installed the 120hz display, and booted up windows on it, and turned the computer off, it refused to turn on for some weird reason. I don't know why it would turn on when the AC and battery where on. regardless of what this was, I fixed it by Reseting the CMOS. If you don't know how to do this, do a quick google search and after turning it on i got 5 beeps which i then turned the computer off, and then turned it back on which the computer just reset itself and when it turned back on I was able to boot up into windows. This is the forum that I was able to find about upgrading the graphics card to the 1060. Anyways I hope I at least helped someone transform their computer! In 2020!

Both based on A08, but with the same SATA performance as in A05.This allows GF106 users which are still on A05 to benefit from the fixes included in A08 while keeping the SATA performance of A05 and it allows GF116 users to get the benefits of A05 SATA behavior.It's actually the result of trying to bring GF116 support to A05 in order to change the SATA behavior (as requested by he_yincheng), since this didn't work as planned I tried it the other way around - bringing the SATA performance of A05 to A08, which succeeded.     Try resetting BIOS defaults, plug one stick at a time, etc. Sometimes BIOS doesn't make good sense of SPD memory info to set correct timings and memory frequency, so you need to give it another chance. A bit surprising for me though, never noticed such problems with IvyBridge. Mostly with an AM3 AsRock mobo (it was so bad it was choosing timings that crashed the system), but there at least I could set timings and frequency manually

To read your bios chip, I recommend you to use software AsProgrammer 1.4.1 or CH341A Programmer 1.18 Also you don't need use auto detect bios chip, just set manually chip type Winbond 25Q32FV or Winbond 25Q32BV. Also, I recommend you to read your bios dump from your bios chip multiple times and compare all dumps in any hex editor (for example HxD), all dumps should be identical.

    Instructions for flashing the VBIOS of a NVIDIA video card: You'll need: A VBIOS file you want to flash The latest version of NVflash, a DOS utility to flash the VBIOS of Nvidia cards. A USB drive, formatted to boot DOS, in order to use NVflash How to create a bootable USB flash drive: The flashing procedure: Put the NVflash files to the root of your prepared (DOS bootable) USB drive. Do the same with the Vbios you want to flash. NOTE: DOS has a limit of 8 characters per file name (not counting the extension). So make sure to rename your files appropriately before putting them on the USB drive. Make sure the USB drive is plugged into a port which is active at boot, reboot the system and go to the boot manager. Choose to boot from your prepared USB drive. As soon as you see the command line you're ready to go, write dir and hit enter to display all the files on the USB drive. Display all Nvidia adapters in the system: nvflash -a or alternatively the longer version of the command: nvflash --list This command will return you a list with all Nvidia adapters present in your system. Here's an example output of this command run on my M15x with a 680m in it: NVIDIA Firmware Update Utility (Version 5.117) NVIDIA display adapters present in system: <0> N13E-GTX (10DE,11A0,1028,02A2) H:--:NRM B:02,PCI,D:00,F:00 The number in the <> brackets is the index of the corresponding device. SLI users will have more than one entry and flash each card separately. Backup your current VBIOS: Never forget to keep a backup of your original VBIOS before you flash anything non-stock. Use this command to save a copy of the firmware to your USB drive: nvflash -b filename.rom or with nvflash --save filename.rom Flash the VBIOS to your card(s): For a single card it's really straight forward, you don't need to worry about the adapter indices. Just use this command: nvflash -6 vbiosname.rom -6 will allow you to override mismatches of the PCI subsystem ID. In case of a mismatch you'll need to confirm the flash with 'y'. NOTE: Users with a non-US keyboard might need to press 'z' or similar, because the 'y' isn't at the same location for all keyboard layouts. SLI users will need to flash each card separately. The concept stays the same, but you will need to use the corresponding adapter index to flash a card. How to figure out the adapter nr. is described above. Flashing goes like this: nvflash -i[index] -6 vbios.rom [index] represents a number, namely the index you found with the 'nvflash -a' command. So a command example to flash a card which has index 0 is: 'nvflash -i0 -6 vbios.rom' When the flashing starts, just wait until it says that it's done. Then reboot with Ctrl+Alt+Del and remove your USB drive. Pro tip: Let me know if I missed anything important or if you have questions.

    Alright, finally managed to get it done, everything worked beautifully. The only problem I encountered was with creating the bootable DOS drive as instructed here, encountered some "write protect" error, maybe some compatibility issues with Win 10. Did manage to make a FreeDOS drive with Rufus and flash successfully. Thanks to all involved!

    If you're okay with laggy UWP interface, background activity, too heavy interface design for standard HD screen and general idea "OS needs to be smarter than user", then this OS is good for you. AFAIK there's none really different options, all available 2...3 displays comes with ugly "white" bluish LED backlight without any PWM compensation. And there is two possible solutions for each problem, both tricky: 1. disassemble the screen, extract backlight strip and resolder the LEDs to better ones - i'm can't even guess is those LEDs possible to find. However on aliexpress you can find some LED strips for generic laptop screens, or buy a broken IPS screen from thinkpad and try to use it's strip; 2. This issue needs to pach a video bios for a new PWM frequency - this was already done by the x2*0 users. Or try the IntelPWMControl.     The keyboard issue sounds like the notebook wasn't happy with the EC , maybe someone flashed an incompatible EC rather than flashing the bios and EC at the same time. You mentioned that you suspect a poor connection for the GPU fan, but FN + 1 works. I'd still suspect that the sense wire on the GPU fan might not be working, maybe worth just plugging in another similar fan of you have it, as a test. Otherwise I know it's probably the same as pulling the CMOS battery, but try the combo of FN + D and then hit the power button. Worst case maybe flash the bios and EC firmware with an external hardware rom flash tool.

    Hey, I got a XMG Schenker Notebook with the MS-1762 Version: REV:1.0 It has the i7 3630QM and a GTX 870m(I upgraded from a 670m) on it. BIOS is now: American Megatrends Inc.: E1762IG6.30J Does the unlocked BIOS work on my Notebook ? And will I be able to overclock the CPU and GPU ? I´m working on a Watercooling solution.     Update #5: We have a winner!! Ok, I got things figured out and working - supper fast...... First, the 580m was the issue. replaced it with a GTX-780m. Problem is fixed. I also fixed the sound for my card. Had to reboot without the GTX-780m, used the internal card. Removed the audio drivers that Windows had installed and installed the original IDT (dell) drivers. tested the sound, and it worked. Put the NVidia GTX-780m back in and rebooted, turned the sound card back on (in the bios) and booted into Windows. Sound Card works with no issues. Video Card works with no issues. I also update/swapped out the my i7-2720qm for a i7-2960xm!! Wow, it's like having a new PC!!     Hey, so I raised the memory voltage on my MSI 980m 4GB from 1.35V to 1.48V. This improved max stable memory overclocks from 6030MHz to 6412MHz. This was not quite the clock improvement I was hoping for, but still was an improvement. Below is a guide on how to achieve this on my model. Clevo and Dell models likely have the same memory VRM circuit, but check first before messing around. The memory VRM on the 980m is a TI S51211. This is a rather simple VRM, with a negative feedback to control the output voltage. Lowering the voltage at his pin (4th pin on the chip) raises the output voltage. There is a two resistor voltage divider to determine this feedback, and thus the overall voltage. These two resistors are boxed in red and blue below. Vout = R1/R2 (*.7) + .7 This VRM does not read the voltage drop across the inductor and thus does not compensate for it (good VRMs do), so your actual voltage will be slightly lower than what you calculate. Raising the resistance of the "red" resistor, or lowering the resistance of the "blue" resistor will raise the memory voltage. My "red" resistor's unmodified value was 22.12kOhms, and the "blue" was 24.5kOhms. You may realize that this is not quite 1.35V when plugged into the formula, and that "blue" should be 23.5 kOhms. I don't know why this is the case. Maybe my multimeter is that bad. You cannot read these resistances while the resistors are both installed. They will both appear to be in parallel, as power and ground will appear to be nearly shorted when the card is off. I was reading 11.4 kOhm across both resistors when both were installed. You can use this parallel resistance value to approximate the value of the resistor you are modifying without removing them for measurement. I ended up removing the "red" resistor with a heat gun. I then replaced it with two resistors in parallel off of a dead 7970m. These were 52k Ohm resistors, which in parallel would be 26 kOhms. This would have been a lower resistance and thus voltage than what I wanted, so I scrapped one resistor until it was 56.5k Ohms (if you thin the resistor with a flat edge razor, you increase the resistance), so that in parallel they were 27.9 kOhms. I did not do this to the original resistor in case I messed up raising the resistance, wanting to be able to undo the mod if it did not work out. Beware that these resistors are TINY. They are too small to use an iron without losing the resistor in the solder. You need to use a heat gun with variable air flow. To remove a resistor, apply flux around the resistor. This will make the resistor stick to the board area so that when you pull it off, it does not fly away and get lost. Set the air flow to a low speed as well, again to not blow the resistor away. Same process applies for when putting in the replacement. Put a thin layer of flux down, then use a heat gun set to low speed. An easier alternative is to pencil mod the "blue" resistor. I did not do this as pencil mod resistance does not stay consistent over time. I find for about a week the resistance will drop after the mod with the card in use, and after that it will slowly rise over months. I wanted something stable so I knew when I tested for max stable clocks, that those would always be my max stable clocks. Well there you go. Have fun. Good luck not breaking anything.
