  1. Since you can choose the frequency in the BIOS for the memory, would the laptop be able to support these? Newegg.com - Kingston HyperX 4GB (2 x 2GB) 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1866 HyperX Plug n Play Laptop Memory Model KHX1866C11S3P1K2/4G They are not XMP, but they are PnP @ 1866 already. Would like some feedback

  2. A new Catalyst version leaked somehow, 8.86 beta, maybe it's an early version of 11.6. Seems to fix some things and also improves performance according to some benchmarks. Here you can find the download links. Thanks goes to The @Revelator for spotting this.

  3. One benchmark that is affected by the timings of RAM (the tighter the better) is winrar. Download Winrar then go to tools -> Benchmark and hardware test. Try it stock first and then play with the timings (BCLK will greatly affect the performance of this benchmark as well)

  4. @gladiator - Depends on whether the driver you downloaded has the updates necessary to install with optimess support. If you performed a clean install and it applied then I guess your ok. If it failed you would have received an error message most likely. Congrats on your m14x. Best Wishes, StevenX

  5. Secure erase is useful when you need to restore factory performance to your SSD or when you want to make sure that there are no leftovers in case you want to sell it, my SSD is SLC based and I really don't worry about the wear and tear plus it doesn't support TRIM and therefore every time I want to reinstall Windows I secure erase it first and then proceed with the rest. FYI, formatting an SSD does not restore its performance, only TRIM can (for MLC based SSDs) and secure erase for both SLC and MLC. In your case, that you have an MLC based SSD, you can go ahead and format your drive without having to secure erase it, the performance difference does not justify the time you will spend doing it or the wear and tear to your NANDs. Once you have Windows installed and TRIM will kick in, you will get almost optimal performance.

  6. Received my autographed copy of KMFDM WTF! and t-shirt. Man these guys are always cool. Included post cards, buttons, stickers and cd/t-shirt. I've been literally 2 feet from Sascha before. He is cool as hell. I think it's amazing how even after all these years he still treats his fans the way bands should. With appreciation and respect. My son Nathan loves listening to KMFDM. With his Autism he really likes classical and various other music/bands. His favorite song by KMFDM is Antigeist. In my house, KMFDM will always SUCK!

  8. Commonly it is hard to use ram at higher speeds when your CPU don't support those speeds at all... I believe at least.. correct me if I am wrong.

  9. No idea Titan. You may have to kick the voltage up to 1.6 or 1.7. The heat may be an issue as well. If you were to buy 1x4gb 1866 maybe. 2 might be pushing it. If you can find a deal where they will allow you to return them you can try and let us know! Best Wishes, StevenX

  10. Yes, the battery - and most of the aftermarket replacement parts for M11x are ultra-expensive. I ended up extending the warranty for $200 on my ex-one. I have to call one of these days for a replacement laptop... (this is the fourth time something broke and I think the motherboard crapped out this time)
