  1. ^^^yes that, the rest can easily be upgraded and they will cost less when purchased separately. On a side note, in case they offered a 120Hz display I would go with that even if the 3D is not working

  2. I'm almost certain the motherboard chipset is going to be P67 instead of the newer (and desired) ZM68. You can see my reasoning for why in the other thread. Why the 460M? Dual 6970M Xfire is considerably better.

  3. Well PM67 hasn't been announced so its likely they will use the desktop P67 chipset. If Dell uses P67 we also lose QuickSync since that is a feature of Intel's onboard graphics. Our only hope is that Dell convinced Intel to let them use Z68 chipsets early on in the M18x since Z68 allows for IGP support + CPU overclocking. The release date for Z68 desktop is supposedly May 8th. Knowing Dell, they probably went ahead with P67 and plan to release the revised M18x-R2 with Z68 in August/September..those shady mofos. I'd rather they pushed M18x back to June and made it with Z68.

  6. That move reminds me of an airline (I think it was American Airlines) that removed an olive from their salad to save money... LOL

  7. We should send them one of those glow in the dark alienware stickers to make them feel better.lolz

  9. I'll wait on the 2920xm till they drop a bit in price and pay off the 18x lol it will be my payoff gift to lol I hope it's based off of the z68 would love to have the cake and eat it. Would make this monstrosity usable in the real world. Come on Dell!

  10. I ended up with Spyder 3 Pro, I bought it from amazon Amazon.com: Used and New: Datacolor DC S3P100 Spyder 3 Pro The results can be found here (check post #11, it has the best results so far)

  11. Well besides xfire 6970s only thing I planned on was a 2720qm. How much can you find 2720qms for online and were is the best place to look? Oh, and my r3 came to 2200 after tax with 2720 and 6970 and 1080 screen. 300 more for dual gpu and aluminum body plus better build quality seems like a good deal lol!

  12. Would you be able to post some links maybe?

  13. You could preconfigure the alienhead with a different color and then swap it since the command center all it does is to write to the firmware of the device but then you would be stuck with it... Another thought is that you could experiment with the XML file and change it manually.. (there is a chance they disabled the option from within GUI but not from the program itself)
    1 point
  14. It wouldn't work cuz of the circuit board + command center doesn't have the alien head color as a configuration option.
    1 point
  15. I wonder if swapping the Alienhead from an R2 to the R3 would work... (probably not because of the circuit board and the firmware... but it would worth a try)

  16. yeah that was a retarded move on dell part. that was one of the best parts of the older models. dam them to hell.

  17. If they had an RGB-LED 1200p (not possible with 18.4" unfortunately) I would buy 2 of them not only one...

  18. I would suggest to get the Intel wifi card with your base config cause it will have 3 antennas installed, if you get the Dell one you will have to do the wiring yourself since it comes with 2 (at least that was the case with the R2).

  19. Brian +1. Thanks for the quick response. I will upgrade CPU, memory, SSD and Wifi card later. I will opt for the SLI (485) and 4yr warranty.

  20. Bad idea, it's very difficult to get a hold of a spare GPU from Dell and the warranty is only for 30 days. You're better off getting a base CPU and SLi/Xfire now and then upgrading the CPU yourself from ebay.
    1 point
  21. Brian you are correct. Maybe I can afford to upgrade to SSD and SLI. Edit: Due to limited funds, my train of thought is to upgrade to the 2920XM CPU first, and add an addition GPU (SLI) later. Just want to know what you all think?

  22. Keep in mind that in Europe, they pay like 50% more than we do.

  23. Always go for the newest updated stuff, we will know what the discrete Nvidia cards will be in a few days. I am quite surprised too no SLI, probably because of power issues? I wish there was bloody rgbled damn you dell, there going to have bring it out eventually. I feel like going for Nvidia this time lol but that AMD 6970 cross-firex for only 150 is a real deal breaker!

  26. The most exciting of all should be the new 330W PSU. Everything else would mean nothing if it wasn't for that, now you have more headroom to push the laptop even further, too bad you won't have an R2 to try and see if it will recognize it... (or will you?)

  27. If you're a college student that plans to take the notebook to class, get the M14x. Both R3 and M18x will be oversized. But as far as audio, the R3 has waves maxx support (as I mentioned over PM). Dunno why Dell doesn't advertise it. That sounblaster x-fi shit is just software.

  28. Well I want IGP because I do use the system untethered while in bed (I hate dragging a cord along with me). So being able to chill in bed and watch a few hours of TV and/or a movie would be nice. But since they aren't mentioning the IGP anywhere in the promotional media or config page, I think we're shit out of luck.

  29. Copy and pasting my post from NBR. I finally accomplished a goal of mine. Ran Vantage at 1GHz on the GPU Core. Ran with the clocks of 1000MHz on the core, 1300MHz on the memory. Broke 21K GPU score and set a new high score for myself. I also ran wPrime1024M in sub 200sec. Which was another goal. Also set a record for wPrime 32M. Yesterday was a good day benching. Vantage: P 21390 GPU: 21058 CPU: 22453 wPrime32M: 6.235sec @ 4039.5MHz wPrime 1024M: 197.997sec @ 3895.7MHz Cooling on Dry Ice. I tried out a makeshift DICE pot, but the cooling wasn't as efficient as this method, and since dry ice doesn't turn to a liquid, I had no issues, other then burns to the fingers. I'd still like to get an effective dice pot, that would make things much easier. Side note, does anyone have an issue where there 3DMark11 freezes as it's 3/4 of the way through loading the "combined" test? I can make it through everything else, but this freezes my system. I may try and lower the clocks.
