  1. The added voltage at lower tdp still had the same result due to the heat. I'm happy at 6038 3DMarks2011. I took off tape from gpu heat fins, removed non invasive gpu retention clip mod that used cardboard washers cut into c-clips. I Set laptop flat on table with no laptop cooler, reset Dell's factory set TDP of 62, i did not utilize throttle stop or Hwinfo controlling fan speed. The clocks are all stock, the multipliers are all stock, and the bios options are all stock. Here's a 3DMark2011 run to compare overclocked and stock speeds. http://i1237.photobucket.com/albums/ff474/marcwwaters86/Benchmark/3dmark201146173dmarksstocksystem.jpg 3dmark 2011 4617 3dmarks Stock clocks Result

  4. It's going to go on sale in 4 days from now. If you want the baddest notebook ever made, cancel the R3 and get the M18x.

  6. Hey, So... I bought 2 SATA cables from eBay for $2.60. On the auction it said the shipping was free and the guy sent it from the same state (NY). However, when the mail came in I got charged $0.95 extra shipping. Now I don't really care about $1 extra, but I do care about misleading auctions. I e-mailed the seller but still haven't received the response. Also the seller already left me positive feedback so I don't want to leave negative feedback before giving him/them a chance to say whats up with these charges. (Not that I wouldn't enjoy slapping a red negative feedback for this kind of shit). Anyone else had similar problem and what did you do? Thanks

  7. yeah, but probably he will do it again... anyways let's see if he will reply first...

  8. OK, I think you are right. I thought about it - I think I'll "forgive" it happened if he at least apologizes.

  9. You can discuss with the seller if he responds to you but since he did ship the product, it doesn't warrant a negative feedback. If he doesn't get back to you, leave him a neutral feedback and explain why.

  10. whether it's the M17x R3 or M18x R1 (also M11x R1/2/3 & M14x R1...), this is a mod that needs tackling (perhaps even with a single color/high quality film between wled & logo?) if at all possible!~ given the location, avoiding any damage seems trickiest...

  11. Alienware/Dell does some strange shit. Like why did they get rid of the custom alienware head colors and make it plain white? Makes no sense.

  12. Did you try to make a clean install? Those are the best drivers I have tried so far, broke 6k on 3dMark11, no problem with games or with my Dell U2410 monitor either...

  13. I don't think they will share the same bios. Since one system supports 2920xm, 32 gb ram and overclocking, the M18x bios likely has a lot of options the R3 lacks. I don't think Alienware is using bclk overclocking with SB either since that is retarded, most likely they unlocked the TDP/Multipliers to a degree. As long as there is no lockbit, an M18x bios + 2920xm + throttlestop = unstoppable.

  14. and don't forget the NX90... aside from HDMI 1.4 being little more than gimmick, both have pros and cons and are ndeed somewhat different machines - although don't they fundamentally share the same bios? guess we'll have to wait for definitive answer on this until after the first units hit reviewers hands (aka you, brian!~ ) then!~

  15. Damn finally the avenger is here finally so awesome looks great and doesn't even look that big of a 18'4. Well better screen size any RGBLED IPS anyone? Joker that was so funny the trolling and them complaining about you being a medical student. This is what those damn mods get for closing down every single thread about the M14x and M18x in your face! MW86 awesome beast you got.

  16. yeah. go for the king openwrt rocks right?
    1 point
  17. yeah, that does sound fishy. return and get a new one is what I'd have done. sorry mate, was hoping you can save some $$ the bright side is that you saw what this router can so and yo already know how to mess with openwrt!

  18. The router started lagging again (dropping connections, high latency etc.) so just flashed to OpenWRT, this time "NA" version - and it works! It seems it works a bit smoother now, but I will give it a day before I am sure it works better. This firmware is much more responsive than the stock one too.

  19. Yes, but it's not the oldest one. The first one (release 1) had Intel dual-core CPUs, the release 2 had first-gen core-i CPUs, the third release should be based on second-gen core-i CPUs (Sandy Bridge).

  20. With all the benchmarking, I had kinda forgot what the stock scores were. Guess that's the score that matters. I never have the system OCed when i game. Well except TS.

  22. Colors which are opposite each other on the color wheel often look good together. Orange and Blue, Green and Red, Yellow and Purple. Contrasting colors... even Black the absence of color and white all colors together are great together because they contrast.

  23. They may have the same CPUs but that's where the similarity ends: M18x: Subwoofer, HDMI 1.4, more display ports, express card slot, aluminum shell, dual graphics, bigger display, 32gb memory support (we don't know if R3 can handle 32 gb), factory extreme cpu overclocking, likely better cooling, 330w PSU M17x-R3: 3D panel, plastic/rubber construction, IGP support, single GPU. Pretty big difference between the two systems IMO. The R3 is meant to compete against Asus/MSI while the M18x is in a category of it's own, it's nearest competitor is the X7200 but that thing looks like a bloated piece of shit next to an M18x.

  25. Thanks! I am gathering my strength now after this epic battle, for round two. Btw, the stock firmware looks like it was made by a 10 year old boy, 10 years ago. I get about 9-10MB/s on WiFi now. Then I remembered I forgot to order a Gbit NIC, so that will be coming next week. I actually planned to flash openwrt-northamerica but then my gf decided to come in so I just left it. I think I downloaded the wrong openwrt so maybe that's why it didn't work - I didn't know "North America" has a special firmware. I flashed it and then it just didn't want to connect to the internet. Since it works now, the plan for this weekend is to do the Ashtefere's M17x cooling mod (got both paste now) and do my taxes. P.S. I already got it completely covered in fingerprints. I wonder whos brilliant idea is to start making all electronics glossy?

  27. great lemme know if you need any help. I've tinkered enough with it to be able to help. but seriouly, openwrt is the way to go with this one. wireless speeds improved quite well on it.

  28. M18x's screen was built by Chuck Norris so the M17x-R2 RGB LED has no chance.

  31. I don't think red will really have any bearing on alienfx, you can set the lights to any color. Take for example the PR photos for M18x, they use green with the red and it looks incredible.

  32. The M18x is on a whole other level vs M17x-R3. The M17x-R3 FEELS cheap and you have to be extra careful not to damage the rubber coating on it. With the M17x-R2 and now M18x, you won't really need to worry about that since it's an all metal construction. Plus for movies, M18x will have a subwoofer so they will sound that much better vs an R3 or R2. I can't wait to order Avenger...in red My first red system.

  34. Thought I'd check on the status of my orders today and noticed this! I wonder how many r3 they're going to try and sell me, lol! Let's see where this takes us. Maybe I'll have 5 by Monday. (the one at the bottom is one of my refunds)

  35. I have a Canada only rep that has offered everyone that I forward to him for an 18x a base price of US equivalent. What you haggle from there is up to you. I'm not sure how many Canadians are here, but let me know if interested. I replied to this post because he also mentioned he would be less scrutinized for giving overly large discounts if he were to make bulk sales.

  36. OCZ really does not cease to amaze with their shadiness. From my recent experiences with them, I'd say these v3 benches are bloated and will experience higher than normal degradation in their settled in state. I mean, I would love to believe v3 will be the fastest - by a long shot - but after all they've put me through, and their pattern of disrespect and disregard toward their customers, I highly doubt it.

  37. I take my R2 with me to work everyday just in case I need to get to a site that work blocks. It's also my main machine for everyday stuff like Quicken etc. I use my m17x R2 as a media center and to play games on my HDTV, almost never disconnect it now that I have the m11x.

  38. I'm seriously contemplating the m18x or an m17x-R3 (I have an R2). I use my R2 for watching movies/videos (WHS with MyMovies) and playing games. Machine is a bit loud will movie watching (which is why I am considering an R3), but would miss the sturdier case. Guy at work bought an R3 (hasn't shipped yet) so the m18x would give me bragging rights that my machine is better then his

  40. ok, I recalibrated both the laptop and the Dell monitor, the laptop achieved 245.52 cd/m^2 with dE=0.32 and the U2410 251.42 cd/m^2 with dE=0.02 (I created a custom profile) The RGB LED is simply amazing (even though a bit reddish) and has nothing to be afraid of next to the U2410

  42. Well the best way to measure how hot they get is run identical systems with furmark and monitor the core temperature. Then you'll know what's up. What concerns me most about 485M and 485M SLi setup is the massive amount of power they eat under load. That would quickly strain a 330W PSU with a 2920xm. IF by some miracle M18x offers 120hz + 485M SLi, I might go for it.
