  1. (finished) So after seeing Inap's wonderful paintings I decided to give it a shot. I'm thinking orange! It will be the first time im going to completely disassemble my system. So thought i would share my progress and hopefully an awesome result. Firstly i bought a new pair of magnesium covers for my lappy in case of something went wrong. The alien head was glued on to the lcd cover and the plastic plate was welded on. I used a heat gun for the head and a small drill for the plate. Rest of the stuff was kinda straight forward off. Just a screw here and there (ie. battery lock) With the bare magnesium set i went to get rid of the old paint at a chemical cleaning called Danclean. Could maybe have done it myself if I had any knowledge of the actual paint. Now I have covered (blue heat resistant tape from the powder coating place) the areas of the magnesium set where I don't want it powder coated. Since it's the first time I do this I wanted to make sure everything would fit inside afterwards. I will have some more pics to share soon... ... which is now! It's not perfect but here it is to enjoy!

  2. MSI 780R will be released with a new type of keyboard backlighting similar to that of Alienware (configurable color zones) as well as the new Sandy Bridge processor and nVidia's new 500M series graphics chip. Asus also has a new 17.3" model due out soon called the G74 but between the two, the Asus seems better built boasting a seemingly superior display. Video:

  4. The pot was about $170, and 183 shipped, so it definately wasn't cheap. On my other runs I had the 150mV, but I'm hoping this will give me a little more headroom, to OC, since the temps will remain lower as a whole. If only I had more voltage. But I'm also going to get a cheap mobo and some CPUs to play with as I learn more about sub zero cooling. Doesn't have to be XM CPUs, I just enjoy pushing hardware, even the low end stuff, and I figure the low end stuff will keep the hobby cheaper. Koolance V2 Pot

  5. Nice, how much did that set you back? Should get some really interesting results with the voltage raised all the way up along with fsb/mult/tdp increase. Just hope your motherboard circuitry can withstand all that.

  6. Look whats on its way... Shoud be in in a week. Koolance V2 Pot. Designed for LN2, but from what I read it's much better for Dice, since it respons so quick, and to heavy a pour can coldbug the CPU. Should be fun, if not for the M17x, then a lot of other old cheap hardware

  7. Ok, is it freezing or dropping the psu? Disable things in the bios not needed for the tests, like sound, wired adaptor, dimmed screen ect to dedicate all power to gpu's and cpus. If the gpu's won't go higher, work on the cpu. That can help up the physics score and combined that score. Also if 925 won't work, try a jump to 940 or 950. maybe you need to just get past that wall. Typing on my phone at church sorry for any spelling Try 930/1200. maybe its the mem.

  8. Try out 930/1250 on the GPU, I think that should pick up those extra pts you need. Maybe even 925MHz on the core, but you should be able to pull off 1250 on the mem. Also what is your cpu voltage? I found that 3DMark11 doesn't hit the cpu as hard as vantage, so if you can put the voltage to have+75mV that should help stability and raise temps just a little. Not sure what your temp headroom is. Then drop your setfsb to about 146 mhz and up your multiplier by one and increase tour TDP to about 115w and TDP to 85. the cpu will likely not draw more then 103w but 115w should government you some leeway. See if that combo works and let me know what your temps are. May even be able to go higher if temps allow +150mv.

  9. Wbabt007- Are you using bios A07 for your R1? If you are, it's recommended that you disable PCI Gen 2 in the bios. You should be able to use the latest driver from nVidia or Dell.

  11. Hi rickss69 and welcome to our forum. Below are a few extra things you can apply if you want to lower your boot time Remember that those changes are not mend for everyday usage, but only if you are targeting on making a new record on the boot timer You can start by applying the tweaks mentioned here: http://forum.techinferno.com/storage/30-installing-ssd-tips-tricks-benchmarks.html#post53 The only driver installed should be the chipset drivers, nothing else Disable as many devices as possible from the device manager (I really mean everything possible, ie USB devices, firewire, camera, unused controllers,etc.. the more the better) Disable readyboost Open Computer Management -> performance -> Data Collector Sets -> Startup Event Trace Sessions Double click on Readyboot and under the trace session tab uncheck to disable like the screenshot below After that I would do a reboot and then go to C:\Windows\Prefetch and delete all its contents Change the visual effects Change the personalization settings Disable features like indexing service and windows search Minimize the components displayed on the Start Menu and the Taskbar The language settings Set the time to not synchronize with a server Disable the firewall Delete as many fonts as possible from the Control Panel/Fonts Set the display at 800x600 16bit Also you can change the performance option to Background services
