UI Lags with GTX 970 / El Capitan

Hello,

I have just recently bought a eGPU and well, its awesome for games / windows but mac is a completely different story,

It works. but the UI lags while switching windows, sliding full screen apps and doing even the most basic tasks..

 

Is there anyway to fix this?

Specs:

- Base model Mid 2015 Macbook pro retina 15 inch

- Akitio Thunder 2

- 200WAT PSU 

- GTX 970

- Monitor: Samsung U28D590D 4K monitor

Yeah that is common. Try and disable the MacBooks screen when using the eGPU: https://github.com/Eun/DisableMonitor

Yeah I have the same issue with my 960 but I really don't want to give up my internal display until I get a 3rd monitor

Try disabling "Displays have separate spaces" in Mission Control, System Preferences.

 

I was having a stutter every single second until I disabled that option, now I can run multiple monitors (including the internal display) without issue.

Thank you I will try that when I will be able to get the GPU working on mac LA's sierra
