You have two reset switches on the EXP GDC Beast. Try setting all combinations of those to see if can bootup OK. Sleep/resume detection won't work once they are set.

Is this the EVGA brand? If so, how is it powered?

Yes. There's no power in on the card itself--it takes power via PCIe. I have an old laptop power brick connected to the PE4L.

Hello there again,

so sadly, after reinstalling Win10 and later Win8.1, the problem of my monitors not being recognized by the eGPU still persists in both cases. And even worse, now i get black screens every now and then when connecting the eGPU to my system (but they instantly disappear and I'm landing in the Windows login-screen when removing the eGPU again).

Can anybody help me? Any ideas left on how to fix the monitors not being recognized or what causes and how to avoid black screens?

I'm getting quite frustrated and only have a few days left before i have to send the GPU back if i don't want to keep it.

@Kone: I've tried researching more for you, but I'm not coming up with anything new unfortunately. My only experiences are with Macs, so I'm not sure if you're issues are related to the machine or just something else being finicky. Just wanted to let you know that sometimes no replies means we just don't know! Sorry.

Good evening (10 pm here in Denmark).

I found a used PE4H-EC2C for about $50 (no PSU or GFX). Is that adapter a good choice?

It's the Express card version so I'll have to do the express card mod to my laptop - or is it cheaper to but an adapter (for the adapter) so it uses pcie istead?

For another $50 I can get an HD6850 but I'm unsure how it performs? I'm still planning on using the infernal display (I know I'll need nVidia for this) but I would consider going full external monitor if the performance gain is good enough.

i've a simple question. I've a acer 5755g with these specifications:

Processor: Intel HM67 Express Quad Core i7 2630QM 2GHz Base, 2.9GHz Turbo

RAM: 8GB

iGPU: Intel HD Graphics 3000

dGPU: NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M

It's possible to install a gtx770 to this laptop, or the system is too slow?

It's necessary the setup 1.30? I think i'll buy PE4C 2.1 (or is better PE4C v3?).

Best expresscard eGPU adapter available at the moment is the soldered-cable PE4C V3.0 : http://forum.techinferno.com/enclosures-adapters/7941-bplus-pe4c-3-x-2-x-discussion.html . Any EXP GDC or PE4H uses a socketted cable that has shown to give unreliable Gen2 (PCIe 2.0) link transmission, often requiring downgrading the link to Gen1 (PCIe 1.1) to get reliable operation.

Only other soldered cable eGPU adapter is the PE4L 2.1b though that one has far less features than PE4C V3.0 (x1 slot, only 1 delay setting, no Dell DA-2 input, etc).

Hi,

i have problem with my eGPU

it cant work with internal LCD

i keep getting the error 43 and error 12

but when i run it with external LCD it work nice

and i played bf4 and complete shadow of mordor game with it

and the internal LCD shutdown by it self when the external is working

......

is there any help please :c

i cant just keep playing and my egpu plugged to the TV

I bought all the ingredients to my system. Unfortunately i have error 12. The situation is as follows:

Config:

HP ProBook 6560B

i5 2520M

8GB RAM

HD3000, no dgpu

eGPU:

GTX 960

EXP GDC Beast

Dell DA-2

System: Windows 10 (64 bit) build 10130

GPT partition (due to dual boot - Clover, 10.10.3 Yosemite OSX)

First of all I would like to get it to work under Windows (OSX have been killed: D),but i get this:

I think I need DSDT override and you are good in them. Can you help me tommorow? I need a step by step instruction, because Im not as pro as you.

What do you think what will be the solution?

Hi,

I am new to the forum. My name is Yohan and i am about to finish my EGPU.

It works well in windows UEFI, my apple thunderbolt display work without using optimus. But I think i have to make a mistake, regarding power supply, because there are a very strange sounds, when i test Valley benchmarkt. And normally i hear a hissing sound.

If it is coil whine, than you are just one of many with a poor GTX970.

Coil whine isn't "bad", it's just annoying. If you have an EVGA you can make a RMA and get a new card.

Does is sound like this?

Hello all. I just recently purchased a DIY eGPU kit for my laptop and I'm having some trouble getting it to run correctly. As far as installation goes I have all the drivers and I can get the 560 to display on my monitor but when I play a game the GPU gains an extreme load and crashes on me over and over. I'm assuming it doesn't have enough bus resource to push. I've tried turning down all the frequencies including voltage in GPU-z and it will run for a little while longer than usual but not by much. If anyone could help me fix this problem it would be greatly appreciated..

That's no innovation dude ;) He's using his M.2 slot. No MXM anywhere.

What's cool though is to be able to see a running M.2 system without an explicit eGPU adapter. All he is using is this -> P4SM2 (PCIe X4 to M.2 Adapter) and a x4 to x16 unpowered riser. Guess he's seen the DA-2 usage over here or he's discovered it himself.

@iKannabis, please try downgrading your link from Gen2 to Gen1 using Setup 1.30 PCIe Ports->Gen1. I suggest that because the EXP GDC V6 has shown unreliable Gen2 performance with the side effects as you note (crashing, high GPU load).

The other reason you may see such crashing is if the PSU cannot deliver reliable power to drive your GTX560Ti. We can see an overclocked GTX560Ti at MSI GeForce GTX 560 Ti Twin Frozr II 1 GB Review | techPowerUp drawing 222W of power. That can vary further depending on the ASIC and overclock.

If you driving your eGPU with a 220W Dell DA-2 then you may be drawing more power than it can provide.

Consider there underclocking and undervolting the GTX560Ti. I'll add too that we found quite a few examples of factory overclocked Fermi cards beyond what their components could reliably provide. Worth downclocking to reference clocks just to check reliability and then work up towards the limits of your power supply.

I've changed from Gen2 to Gen1 using your setup. I'm using a Corsair CX 430 Power Supply. I also tried dropping the voltage and clock speeds to their bare minimum. I'm still getting a high GPU usage and crashes.

Can you do a fresh OS build and test. It's now going to either be the OS of your eGPU gear has some unusual hardware anomoly. If the latter, you'd need to test each component (video card in a desktop system, eGPU adapter on another system) to isolate where the fault is.

The laptop has only allowed me to install Windows 8 any time that I've reinstalled an OS. I only have a 4GB flash drive handy. Any suggestions?

Copy your Win8.1 or Win10 ISO to a folder on your HDD, then add an entry into your BCD to boot it. The details on how to do that are

You might want to shrink your existing HDD volume and just create a partition to host your ISO. Then when start the installation you can delete your existing main Windows HDD partition. Ensure you've backed up all important data before doing that!

Which ThinkPad model are you using? I have an E520 and I'd be interested in a similare setup as you have (750 Ti).

I also dual-boot Linux on my laptop

Buddy I meant if Intel will implement the MXM gpu support on the NUC platform, that will again shake the computing market. I know he is only using the movie slot of the NUC using a riser.
