xXReDxSparoweXx Posted February 23, 2016 Share Posted February 23, 2016 I've really been struggling lately to get the most out of my SLI Y510p setup and have been reading a lot about unlocking the BIOS on my laptop. Lots of other y510p users have highly recommended that I disable "hyperthreading" which can only be done through the BIOS. I don't have this option, actually don't really have many options at all. I can usually figure out what to do and what needs to be set or downloaded or installed in order to do most anything, not this time. I can't even download the required files I need from this site in order to start the process and I spent all night searching the web for the files that were required. I did find them but just ran into error after error and failure after failure. I recently did a FULL wipe of my PC. Got rid of Windows 10 due to the fact that Lenovo isn't supporting the Y510P past Windows 8.1 which really sucks because Microsoft says I can upgrade. When I was using W10 I kept running into problems with my SLI configuration due to SLI not being supported right off the bat and even now it's still a mess. Tried various workarounds to get my laptop running how it was supposed to run, nothing more, nothing fancy just a good constant FPS. So I wiped my PC and reinstalled windows from scratch. I'm currently on Windows 8.1 and my BIOS is at v3.08 According to the topic here in the forums in regards to the unlock of my BIOS I need to have my BIOS at 3.05, then flash it back down to an older version before I flash it back up to v3.05. The author of the post said that I'd need to get in contact with him or somebody else here in order to get my v3.08 BIOS unlocked and downgraded from v3.08 Every time I tried to make a bootable USB drive with my BIOS on it using the steps in the guide here nothing ever got flashed to my USB drive. The format and procedure would complete without any problems but it wasn't writing anything to the USB drive from the "CD-Rom" folder that was provided in the tutorial. This is rather strange because when I was doing the restore of my laptop prior to attempting the BIOS unlock I actually had to make a bootable USB drive in order to flash my BIOS to v3.08 which was the current and only BIOS on the Lenovo Support page for my laptop. They don't even have previous versions of any sort of drivers and or software. TL/DR: Can somebody please help me get my BIOS unlocked? I was on SLI with W10 for more than likely a year and i only ever had one problem, but it was just a driver issue with nvidia and it cleared itself up. Past that W10 > W8 in about every aspect. From what I gathered from the Lenovo Support Site my model laptop Y510P isn't included in the lists of laptops that they are continuing support on once upgraded to windows 10. My bigger issue was the constant BSOD I kept getting after upgrading to W10. I would get at least 1 BSOD a day or every other day, usually when restarting my laptop from the desktop, If I did a complete shutdown then it would boot up to the desktop just fine. The restarts are what gave me the BSOD. Ever since I went back to Windows 8.1 earlier this week I have had ZERO BSOD. I thought it was maybe my SSHD, RAM, or one of my GPUs but decided to start with a factory reset before I would fork over money for a replacement SSHD or GPU. Going back to windows 8.1 seemed to do the trick. May I ask if you are possibly using the same model laptop as I am? Lenovo Y510P GT 755m SLI i7 4700MQ 2.4GHz 16gb DDR3 RAM ? Just wondering because if so then maybe I should contact Lenovo Support on my laptop, or NewEgg.com since I purchased it through them. My BIOS is currently v3.08 and in order for me to use this method I need to be on v3.05 I haven't found anything or anybody to help me with my issue and I even sent a small donation and message to the author of the BIOS hack in question.
