User Account Promotion Rules - READ BEFORE POSTING!   12/14/15

As part of the move to our new platform, we did away with the 5 post moderation queue (where new members posts were put in an approval queue) and now all new member posts are not prescreened and immediately visible when posted. However, to maintain a steady stream of quality content on these forums, we have added user account promotion requirements which work a little differently than before.   Upon registering for this website, your account is categorized as "Pre-Promotion" and you can see that status below your avatars. Once you have participated in the community sufficiently over the course of a week , your account will become flagged for review and at that time the T|I moderation team will review your post history over the course of a week and promote you accordingly--as long as you didn't break any forum rules or make spam posts, you are 99.9% certain to get promoted. At that point, as a Promoted User, your account will have full privileges to download anything you like and have enhanced account features enabled such as increased PM quota, increased per post upload quota etc.   If you cannot wait for this promotion period, then we encourage you to subscribe for T|I Elite Membership as it will provide you with an immediate account promotion and you can then download what you wish. Attempting to circumvent these rules set forth are grounds for infraction and/or termination of your account privileges as it is a violation of our terms of service that you agreed to when joining Tech|Inferno forums.    In summary: New user account promotion system that views your level of quality activity on these forums over a span of 1 week with a minimum of 5 QUALITY posts.  Once you have sufficient activity over this week, your account is flagged for moderator review. At that time you will get promoted as long as you had quality posts and didn't violate forum rules (e.g. spam posts, one liners, file begging, complaining etc.). Apart from a few odd members that break the aforementioned rules, almost everyone is guaranteed a promotion. If you do not wish to wait for this promotion queue, you can simply opt for T|I Elite Membership to skip ahead and get your account promoted as long as the membership lasts.  Attempting to circumvent the aforementioned rules may result in an infraction and/or ban. Please review our terms of service.   We feel this is the best compromise we could come up with to maintain our standards of quality for this website and to ensure our limited resources are used optimally.    Thanks, T|I Team

All Promoted & T|I Elite Can Submit Articles   12/26/15

Starting today (12/27/15), all promoted and T|I Elite members will now be able to submit their own articles to the front page for review. This will give you a chance to write about something and have it exposed to thousands of readers that visit Tech|Inferno daily. Additionally, once you do contribute an article and it is approved by an administrator, your usergroup will be moved to "Contributor" status which brings additional privileges similar to T|I Elite. Those additional privileges are still in the works and when finalized, will be posted in this thread.   First and foremost, read our terms of service: https://www.techinferno.com/index.php?/ti-tos/tos/   Some rules in addition to the TOS to note: All articles, posts, comments, reviews etc. must comply with our terms of service.  If you are affiliated with any company, agency, service or commercial product, you are forbidden from using this privilege. You must contact Tech|Inferno for advertising fees and space. Anyone violating this policy will have their accounts terminated. You are not allowed to copy/paste articles or works from other sources and must respect copyrights. Doing so will result in your suspension from these forums. Anything you reference in your post must be given full credit either in the body of the article or at the end in terms of sources referenced with a hyperlink to that source. Refrain from the use of BB code tables, you can use one or two if you must but don't go crazy with those. A better alternative is to construct a table in an external program and export it as a JPEG. Do not go around spamming links to your articles on other forums. Sharing it on twitter or FB is fine, but don't hop on another tech forum and start spamming it. If we receive complaints from other administrators of you doing this, we'll revoke your right to post. Articles must be relevant to technology (e.g. PC games, software, networking, computers, notebooks, graphics cards etc). Anything illegal or related to gambling is forbidden. Be professional, check your grammar and spelling before submitting an article.  If you spam a bunch of garbage articles for review and we feel you're doing this on purpose, we will suspend your posting privileges.    How to submit an article video:   It is expected that you watch the above video to learn how to submit an article. All submitted articles must contain the following or they will be rejected:   Title Meta tags (labeled as "Tags" under the Title box) Content (obviously): Must be at least 150 words/2000 characters in length.  Image - Choose Single File: This is the thumbnail image that viewers will see on the CMS index. Try to keep image size under 500px x 500px and size <200 KB.  Appropriate topic selection that fits your article - we keep these limited on purpose. Only choose topics that fall under Front Page News.    In topic selection, do not choose 'Promoted Posts' as that is a category only for administrator and moderator use to promote posts from the forum to the front page. If you do choose it, your article may be rejected from the queue.    Reward  If an article you write receives over 1000 unique views, we may gift you with a $20 amazon gift card/certificate. This gift is subject to our terms and conditions. Any fraudulent views will be discarded and no reward given.   Lastly, follow this topic if you plan to be a regular contributor as we will continue to update this space.

      Tech|Inferno TeamSpeak - Come Join Us!   12/28/15

Tech|Inferno is hosting a TeamSpeak channel for those of you that wish to hang out with one another or play as a squad in games. Additionally, if you are a T|I Elite member, it is where you can find me (Brian) there often and can use this as an avenue of contact although you must always first attempt to create a support ticket before seeking assistance on TeamSpeak.   If you are not a T|I Elite member, please do not come on TeamSpeak seeking assistance as account and forum issues via TeamSpeak are strictly for T|I Elite members. Non-Elite members will need to either create a thread in the feedback forum or reply to the existing feedback thread.   TeamSpeak Server: ts3.techinferno.com   Port: 9987 (you shouldn't need this but just in case)   Currently the server is set to host a maximum of around 30 people but if it gets more traffic, we can always purchase a license and increase that total.    Please do not poke any admins unless you are a T|I Elite member in need of assistance.   Thanks.

Hello,

VikingJoe from Texas. I just bought a new to me MSI Dominator GT72 2QE with an 8 gig GTX 980m which is what brings me here.

I love everything about the laptop except the temps. Hoping to figure out how to undervolt it a bit for better temps.

The only thing I have done to it so far is overclock the screen to 90hz.

Hello to all I'm just anoldman looking for some help.  Currently stumbling in the dark so to speak, looking for help with a laptop.  Have not yet figured out how this site works to even locate the manuals for download.  I see the thread wherein it was announced they had been made available, thinking back in 2014 but I am drawing blanks.

Hoping to eventually figure out where the wifi card access is on my son's Clevo W355SS  (Digital Storm Javelin).  Amazed at how difficult it is to find model specific information.  Hoping there is a point at which I can make an informational contribution.

Just thought I would share this bit of information.  Figured out how to get to the wifi card on the Clevo W355SS also known as Digital Storm Javelin.  The strip across the top of the keyboard snaps off and does so easily if you lift the keyboard edge first due to the way the catches on the tabs are positioned.  Once that is off, remove the 5 screws along the top edge of the keyboard, lift that edge and pivot the keyboard up.  The wifi card is in the upper right corner under the numerical pad.

Hi,

I'm Mariano from Coruña, Spain. Landed here nearly two years ago through another spanish forum debate about eGPU.

So, first of all, thanks by your previous inestimable help in running a R9_280x with a exp_gdc_beast_8 on an aspire_5750_g and second, that I'm here to learn because a new laptop is coming (I look over a used hp elitebook 2570p).

I'm glad to be here

Hi. I'm an Alienware m15x owner. I've upgraded just about everything in it. I'm mostly here for the Slv7 Bios, but I'm sure I'll find some other useful information here.

It’s crazy to see how active the community is around here. Heck, there are still some older threads that are 5+ years old that still continue to be active. Made me feel welcome. :D

Hello everyone! My name is Devon, you can call me what you like though!

A very tiny bit about me lol:

I started my tech journey around 13-14 years old, when I got my first Android phone. A Droid X2. Oh boy I soft bricked that thing so many times, until the inevitable hard brick. And many more lol. Anyway, here's a little about what I've got going on currently:

I like to impulsively buy computers I either cannot afford, or that are dirt cheap. I'm currently working on two projects, an Alienware M14xR1, and a Lenovo SFF. This will likely change here soon, as I get bored with projects quite easily.

The Lenovo SFF desktop is going to be a media computer that I put in the bedroom. Likely, my fiance will use it more than me, seeing as I like some power in my computers lol. Currently my M14x is on its way to being the best it can be. I paid 25$ for it, off of some guy on Facebook marketplace. He said it needed an OS and a charger. Seeing as I had a looooot of parts and extra things from my last project, (Dell Precision M4600) I decided 25$ was a steal and I couldn't pass it up. So, I brought it home, and man did it need work. Hardware/software side was good to go. I loaded up Windows 10, no problems. But boy was this thing gunked up. And it still is, I'm working on fixing things here and there where budget allows. I'll attach some pics if I remember to.

So, the M14x came with an i5 in it, not sure of the exact model. I know its a quad core, that's about it lol. I immediately ripped that out, seeing as I already had the best cpu I could possibly put in it from the other project. (Which by the way that M4600 project failed because it bsod'd me and I smashed it over my knee. Oh well, need to control my anger better lol.) Anyway, I had harvested all of the parts from the M4600, which consisted of: 1. (an i7 2920XM extreme edition cpu 2.5ghz base clock 3.5ghz turbo) 2. (24 gigs of ddr3 1333mhz ram) 3. (an intel centrino ultimate-n 6300 wireless card) 4. ( a Samsung 840 evo ssd).

Obviously I can't fit all 24g of ram in here seeing as it was in 4 sticks, so I took the best pair, and chucked it in. It replaced a good set of Crucial 1333mhz 4gig sticks. Then, I tore into the entire computer, every last screw and clip, tore it all down and gave it a much needed clean, seeing as the heatsink fins were hooooorrible. As I was in there, I swapped out the cpu, which I really didn't know if it was going to work, and by the grace of the laptop modding gods, it was the same socket. (I kinda thought cause the M4600 and m14x were built in the same year.) Anyway, I slapped some new thermal paste on the cpu and gpu dies, replace the thermal pads, and screwed that weak looking cooling apparatus back onto the mobo. Then I slapped the Samsung ssd in, and put it all back together. I didn't put the other wifi card in as I felt like any difference would be negligible. I loaded up a fresh copy of Windows 10, and there we have it. A laptop that can't do a single thing but look cool BECAUSE NOW I HAVE TO MANUALLY LOAD DRIVERS! GRREEEEAAAAT.

Anyway, after a painstaking hour for scrambling to find the right wifi card drivers, I finally got everything loaded and working properly.

A couple of days pass, and I start watching Youtube videos and looking on fourms. I start to learn about the modded bios's and overclocking the dgpu. I installed Msi Afterburner and I have reached a stable clock of 730mhz core and 1050mhz memory on stock voltages. Although MsiA isn't allowing me to modify my shader clock. Weird. Anyway, I start looking into the modded bios more, I ended up flashing an unlocked A05 because that's all I can find. And that is what has lead me here. I need the Voltage Mod A08 bios that sl|7 has created, but I had to make and account, and now have to jump through the hoops to get the download lol. I tried buying the pass but it won't accept my card? Anyway, this has been a little about me and a lot about my current project. I hope whoever reads this has a good time reading it, I honestly don't know why I spent this much time on this but oh well. I'm glad to be a part of the T|I community!

If anyone ever needs anything that I have, just ask. I'm here for anyone!

Oh, I decided to add this after proof reading, I thought it may be worth mentioning:

I'm also going to be trying to figure out the egpu setup for the M14xR1. There is VERY limited info on the Googles that I can find. I have the Beast 8.5 and an EVGA Gt 740 SC 4g. That failed on my M4600. I even did the bsbd or whatever it was, it just literally didn't work. Nights of frustration, I just gave up. But now that I have the M14x, it looks a little more promising with the unlocked bios and all of that. Anyway, thanks for reading if you made it this far! :D

Hi everyone! Registered to the forums because I'm trying to modify the BIOS of my laptop. I just got a new wireless card but unfortunately the Lenovo whitelist is making my life... more difficult than it needs to be.

I have a pretty old laptop and I've been thinking about adding some more RAM / mayyyybe swapping out the HD for a SSD. Hoping the forums can help!
