Dell Inspiron 15 7559 PCIe SSD ?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I'm very happy with this laptop but there is an empty M.2 slot waiting to be filled. The connector seems to offer the right pins for a PCIe x4 SSD like the SM951 but someone at Notebookreview reported that this particular model dosent work. Is it possible that NVME is the problem and other PCIe SSDs should work? Could a BIOS mod help (like inserting BIOS modules)? Can I somehow determine whether the hardware supports PCIe x4 in this M.2 port?

I tried reading the PCIe configuration of the CPU with Linux, but can't interpret the result...

Maybe someone with a little bit more experience knows what that means. :)

Hello,

I know it is a bit late to answer but I am asking me the same question at the moment.

I have the 2nd 7559 model with 8GB RAM, which doesn't have any SSD, I thing the same as you

First of all, since you doesn't see the second HDD in your BIOS, you can stop to try to see it on the OS because it will never find it because of the BIOS... (when entering the BIOS : Main > Second HDD -invisible for me-)

I called the Dell support for more information and they told me that the hardware (mother brand) is completly compatible with this kind of SSD. The only thing is that my BIOS doesn't reconise it.. I'm pretty sure that it is just a BIOS problem because my SM951 doesn't work but a m.SATA work completly well (a 128gb SSD m.2 coming from the same 7559 but with 16Gb ram + 1To + 128GB SSD)

The m.2 SSD with this 16Gb RAM model is a m.SATA version and the SM951 is a PCIe. I think THIS is the reason why we cannot see the SM951.

I asked them to make a new update of the BIOS to be compatible. I hope it'll come asap as possible. BIOS v1.0.3 seems to support both but doesn't work at all; so it confort me in the idea that it is just a technology compatibility problem (m.SATA & PCIe).. (in the 16Gb RAM version, the BIOS versions are the same)

I stay informed !!

Regards

Yoann

      Hi,
      In this thread you can post your requests for AMD-V unlock on ACER E5-553G and same laptops with AMD CPU's, for example Acer Aspire E15, Acer Aspire E5-523G, Acer Aspire E1-522, Acer Aspire E1-420, Acer Aspire E5-421, Acer Aspire V5-123, and etc.

      Now we can unlock  AMD-V function for virtualization support. In general, this method described in the article on this link: http://www.geektech.co.nz/how-to-unlock-...enovo-y700
      This way requires Windows as a system because  some tool works only in Windows.

      Download this tool: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B4NHIBM...RtQXM/view
      Extract the archive H2OUVE.rar directly on the Desktop and copy the H2OUVE folder directly on the disk C:\
      Then run the Command prompt as Administrator and execute these commands:
      cd  \

      cd  H2OUVE

      H2OUVE.exe   -gv   vars.txt

      After each command press the Enter button.
      After that, you'll have the file "vars.txt" in H2OUVE folder.
      Post here this file "vars.txt" or upload it to any fileserver and  send me the link.

      For reference, here's the EFI-table with available settings for this notebook: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B4NHIB...WI4LW14bE0
      And here's the setting that needs to be changed:
      0x1C40B             Setting: SVM support, Variable: 0xEE {05 91 54 02 55 02 54 00 34 12 EE 00 00 10 00 01 00}
      0x1C41C                 Option: Disabled, Value: 0x0 (default) {09 07 27 00 10 00 00}
      0x1C423                 Option: Enabled, Value: 0x1 {09 07 28 00 00 00 01}
