ServusFidelis
So I have this alienware m15x and just installed a 970m gpu 6gb.... however NVidia's default driver does not recognize the gpu. I have been anxiously trying to figure out a simple way to install this driver so the card will work. Plus I really want to see what this card can do. Could someone please give me a link and instructions on how to install this video card driver? I know it has something to do with modding the .inf.... but I have no idea how to mod the driver, or install the mod to the driver. Please help!! Jay89
Hi are you using an driver directly from nvidias site or are you using a modded driver? you will need a modded driver if the card was not an originally selectable graphics card for the laptop try looking in this thread: http://forum.techinferno.com/nvidia/6307-%5Balienware%5D-aftermarket-upgrades-driver-support-modded-inf.html
Khenglish
Disabling the driver signature enforcement won't help. As you said you need an .inf mod. The basics of a .inf mod are that for laptop cards, the .inf includes pairs of subsystem IDs (laptop models) paired with graphics cards. Since you are running a gpu in a system that was not sold with the gpu, your laptop/gpu pair does not exist in the driver .inf.svl7 installed a 970m in his m15x and posted the modded .inf here:http://forum.techinferno.com/alienware/8113-going-test-clevo-980m-alienware-m17x-r4-m18x-r2-aw17-53.html#post114897
ServusFidelis
Thanks guys, everything is up and running as it should. Ran 3dMark on both an alienware 15 with an i5 and 965m, vs the upgraded m15x with an i7-940xm and 970m.... m15x came out on top. Youtube video will be posted soon tonight.
