Dell Precision M4800 - Error 43

Im close but cant quite get it... perhaps a more knowledgable person than myself can help.

I can get my GTX970 to show up in the Device Manager alongside my Quadro 2100M however it shows up with an Error 43. I got Setup 1.X from Tech Inferno Fan and have tried to follow the troubleshooting guide but I just cant seem to put it all together. The troubleshooting guide is also a bit old in that it references drivers that are pretty dated. Is it still required to use such old drivers? Im not sure that is even posssible to rollback that far in Windows 10. It also mentions using 4GB of RAM which is a bit tricky since I have two sticks of 8GB.

I think the combination of an old troubleshooting guide and my limited working knowledge of setup 1.x is hanging me up. Can anyone help me out?

@farmergoo , the error 43 can be resolved by ensuring:

1. the eGPU hardware is working correctly. Ensure all PCIe power connectors attached to video card, etc.

2. That only a single NVidia driver is being loaded. Since you have a Quadro card the way to do that is to remove all existing drivers, run "DDU" to remove NVidia entries from the registry. Then load the latest desktop driver for the GTX970.

I highly doubt this "Dell engineer's" info. It sounds like something someone in support made up to make you leave them alone. Nando4's setup program can likely set 2.0 to give it a shot. I can't guarantee it would work though.

Besides,I found an article about change EC port.

I don't know what's the DDU.I skipped DDU and finally got stuck at step8-7.The windows did't show any "found new hardware".

According to your reply, what's Nando4's program? It can change the speed of EC port?

Best regards.

Yes, it can force the EC slot to run at 2.0.

Following this method how to fix error code 43 in win 10:

  • Open Device Manager by directly typing "Device Manager" in "Search the web and Windows" box next to Windows 10 start menu. Click Device Manager. It then opens with your computer name at the top and a list of devices that are installed on your computer beneath your computer name.
  • Locate the malfunctioning device in the list of devices, right-click the device, and then click Uninstall. When a warning message appears that you are uninstalling a device from your system, click OK. Device manager uninstalls the device.
  •  Right-click your computer name in Device Manager and click Scan for hardware changes. Device manager scans your system and automatically reinstalls your device.
  •  Right-click the device and click Properties. On the General tab of the device Properties dialog box, in Device status, you should see the message This device is working properly.
