I've been keeping an eye on the Pimax 8K (mind you I'm way too broke to afford it), but I can't wait to see what the higher resolution headsets actually look like in action.

I do think that price point is going to be a huge contributing factor on VR really taking off, everyone I know is psyched about the technology, but very few people I know can afford any of it.

I've tried the usual suspects (my brother has a few of the VR headsets) and the experience is really awesome, but I still think the resolution detracts from the overall immersion of the experience (when there's less action taking place in the game, the pixelation is more noticeable).

I actually thought the sony VR experience was kind of cool because all I had to do was bring my ps4 to my brother's house and the headset did double duty as a "ginormous TV", so we could both play monster hunter in the same room :)

I bought a Rift for a project our company is working on at the moment in the commercial space but I have had a bit of time now to use it personally and the results are mixed. Personally I think the experiance is good but needs some work.

Pixel density on the Rift is noticable for me, images just aren't as clear as I'd want them to be but i'm really fussy like that.

However the expirence on the Rift I find amazing, the headset is light and the controllers are easy to use and the whole system feels solid. There is still the issue of having a cable run to your computer or laptop but you get used to it and as far as i'm aware Oculus won't be introducing an adapter simular to Hive anytime soon.

Overall it is great fun and something different, playing some  games are so emersive that you forget that you're in a room with four walls. I would recommend anyone to try it anyday, the only advise I would give to anyone is make sure you have a strong GPU to support it. Yes most GPU's say that they're VR ready but even on my system with a 7700k and a GTX 1070 I noticed that frame rates did drop to 45FPS in some games and scenes which is enough to make you feel uneasy during gameplay.

It;s been about 5 years since the original post was written and it seems that the Oculus rift vr novelty is still a novelty.  I may be mistaken, but there does not seem to be a lot of new games being developed for the system that makes it a worthwhile purchase.  I tried the Oculus in a arcade last year and yes it was new and interesting, but if I owned one at home I would eventually find that the vr experience wears off and the equipment would sit around unused and unloved.  That would explain the Oculus rift sets being sold on Kijiji every couple of months where I live.
