Recommended Posts

Hmm thats very difficult. I would ask svl7 if the card work in your machine. What gpu is currently installed?

There is no GPU atm, but I might get my hands on Dell/AW GTX 770M. That is why I'm asking if it would work in MS 16F3.

The GTX770M works perfect, at least MSI and Clevo version. In the Dell version, I'm not so sure that, because Dell Cards will make very frequent problems in MSI barebones.

Yes thats possible. i flashed my gtx 680m's from dell several times with the modded vbios from svl7.

Well, in that case, I believe there could be already uploaded vbios for it since current generation is 9xxM. Am I right?

Edit #1: hans123: does your GTX 680M work without ANY strange behavior?

I'm not sure because the gtx 670m is a femi card and the gtx 770m is a kepler card. I would buy a new heatsink for your machine.

You need an other heatsink for kepler cards.

New MSI MEDION Heat Sink nVidia GTX780 GTX770 E31-0406580-Y31 | eBay with cpu bridge

New MSI MEDION Heat Sink nVidia GTX670MX GTX675MX GTX680M E31-0406162-Y31 | eBay without cpu bridge

both are 100% compatible with all kepler cards. the first one with cpu bridge has a better thermalmanagment.

the seller offers also an original MSI GTX770M MSI GTX770 M Nvidia GTX 770M GPU 3GB MXM 3.0 N14E-GS-A1 | eBay

i recommend using this backplate for all kepler cards, for ca. 5°C less: MSI Medion Backplate for nVidia GTX,570M, 670M 675M , 680M; E31-10803350-Y31 | eBay

currently I use a MSI GTX870M + with CPU Heatsink Bridge in my MS-16F3, before that I had a MSI GTX770M + without CPU Bridge Heatsink (works now in a MS-1762).

@hans123 the Dell GTX680M with svl7´s Mod Bios has worked in your MS-16F3 without any problems ? Comes the Bios from here? : http://forum.techinferno.com/general-notebook-discussions/1847-nvidia-kepler-vbios-mods-overclocking-editions-modified-clocks-voltage-tweaks.html or has svl7 this created specialy for your system ?

Is it possible to flash Dell's card without bricking it?

no you cannot.

This is different for each card. Dell GTX 675M can be flashed with MSI vBIOS, GTX 560M as well.

GTX770M cannot. I've tried on 2 different cards and bricked them both. Neither clevo nor msi vbios work on dell GTX770m

It's a different card layout, chip is the same.

So no, you cannot flash dell GTX 770M with different vbios.

(probably that's why dell 770m doesnt work in 16f2 but clevo 770m works.)

I think the card work in your notebook but you have to flash the modded vbios from svl7.

But if you want to go sure ask svl7.

Good to know! But you can flash svl7 vbios on dell cards!

it depends on which dell card. You can on 675, 560, 570, ...

770M does NOT work. tested.

So, you're saying Dell won't work in 16F3. Can svl7 do something about it?

Not sure about 16F3. It definitely doesnt work on 16F2 (and 1761 for that matter.) - sandy bridge notebooks without optimus.

Alright. So shall I just wait for svl7 to see this topic or message him directly?

What would happen if I inserted Dell's card and started up the system?

You can try.

Chances are it will work!

On 16F2 it doesnt POST. Just stuck on MSI logo. Don't worry, it wont explode :D

Go ahead and try it out without flashing...

Hello, I've got a Quadro M2200 (GPU: GM206GL-A Revision A1, and MxM 3.0a Maxwell card) with the following bios: 84.06.76.00.1C

I've read that this card is very similar to the GTX 965m, but that it has been underclocked considerably. It seems to be a good candidate for unlocking since I hardly see the temperature exceed 70C as-is. I'm requesting help with this - I'm not sure if it's possible to simply flash the vbios from a Dell GTX 965m (MxM 3.0a) or if some type of edit of the card's current vbios would do the trick. I'm hoping someone could help me out with the specifics of doing such an edit if that's the case.

      Thanks!

      Hello!

I have recently acquired my Dell Inspiron 15 7000, and I am interested in building an egpu setup for it. It has a USB-C port. Any recommendations/guides out there?

      thanks.

Hey everyone!  After lots of searching it looks like this is the go-to place for laptop mods online, so I figured this would be the best place to ask something like this.

I picked up a Dell E6530 for basically scrap value, and I love the thing.  Runs Xubuntu great, battery is halfway decent, and I can play 99% of the games I own on it.  My friend on the other hand picked up an E6440 with its silver-ish finish along the back.  As much as I love my 6530 I've gotta say, that thing looks great.

To get to the point now, I was wondering if it's possible for me to polish the top of the lid on my 6530 to have a more silver finish like that (or maybe even a mirror finish if I sand it down with a fine enough grit).  Really what I want to know is if the dark grey part of the lid is actually metal.  I can't seem to get a definitive answer online, and I tried the magnet test on it and it wasn't magnetic at all.  This doesn't necessarily mean it's not metal though, as aluminum isn't magnetic but is obviously a sandable/polishable metal.  One source said the laptop has anodized aluminum parts on it, but they didn't specify whether it was something internal or external.

Can anyone here provide me some insight?  If the grey part is definitely a metal and not a plastic, I think I'm gonna give it a try.  As stated before I got this thing for scrap value, so if in the end it doesn't work out I'm not gonna cry over it or anything.  Still though, I'd rather not run into this blind.  If this is indeed possible though and I can accomplish what I want with a decent looking result, I'll post up some pictures with the method I used for others to do as well.

      Thanks in advance!

      Hello,

I have a Dell Inspiron 5555 with BIOS A12 and I am missing some options in the advance menu. The BIOS seems to be shared between the 5455 and the 5755, if it helps. Can anyone help me figure a way to have all the options in the BIOS available?
I have attached the results archive from the backup tool, if it helps

      Thanks in advance!

I have been attempting to change my boost clocks values for the longest time, though I've been unsuccessful. I managed to flash my modded BIOS, though no changes seem to have had happened, along with no errors either. Here's all the stuff I used and was able to get. If someone is able to help me with this, it would be greatly appreciated.
