Flashihng BIOS or wireless card? (Bypass lenovo whitelist)

Recommended Posts

I ran to the same problem a lot of people have. I wanted to upgrade my y500 wlan card in order to conect to 5GHz bands.

I found two solutions on the table, one risky the other one not so much. The first one consists in removing the BIOS whitelist and the second one is about flashing the actual card (what I find really troubling).

What do you guys think? Have you tried any of these methods?

If by flashing the actual card you mean installing another wifi card supported by BIOS whitelist then yes, it is more easy considering you already have bought a wifi chip supported by your BIOS. But the list of cards supported by BIOS is very small.

If you are not under warranty you should remove the BIOS whitelist by flashing modded BIOS. After that you can use any half size mini pcie wifi card.

Yeah, I decided to flash the BIOS instead. And what I meant by flashing the card, is to change the sub-vendor ID but is way too complicated for me. Anyway, the card works.

What wifi card did you switch with?

I want to remove the whitelist from my bios is there a way to edit the bios without having to use the tools from this site?

No you can't. Just make a few posts and you'll be able to. :)

Just took me a couple days of chiming in bits of things in any forum I felt was relevant.

For what I learned, do the Bios-flash made available my SVL7.

Then you should be able to plug and play the Intel AC7260.

Hello all, I have recently bought a Lenovo Y510p. So far I have had a horrible time with my decision as it is a good laptop, but I had bought the single GT755 model. My bios version is V3.05. my computer will not boot past "Unauthorized wireless network card is plugged in. Power off and remove it." I do know that there are other forums that cover this issue but I am unable to download the files needed to correct the issue, because the website says I do not have access yet. Is there a way to do this without the files or how would I go about getting access to download them from the moderators?

As requested by @data2318 - Lenovo Z580 bios with wireless card check removed.
Grab this tool, put the bios in the same folder and run the included .bat file to flash. As I don't have a Z580 myself I need someone to confirm that the wlan check is removed. Report back when you flash.
