Mohenjo Daro 10 Posted January 9, 2015 My decision to buy Lenovo Y510p was guided (or misguided) by the fact that Y510P has a removable CPU, which is great! Since there are heat issues with the current CPU's that are built into it, I ws wondering would it be possible to use the Broadwell line of Intel CPUs which use much less power than Haswell based, for an upgrade of Y510p? did anyone actually upgraded their CPU in the laptop, and what are Your experiences? octiceps 256 Posted January 10, 2015 Sorry, Broadwell CPUs are all soldered.
soldatdescieux 11 Posted January 13, 2015 ^ this. you'd likely be able to swap it for just about any other CPU that fits in the Haswell mobile socket (assuming you have a 4200Q or whatever it is) but that would be all. here's a list: Haswell (microarchitecture) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
kevzho 10 Posted January 15, 2015 Yup, it's soldered, but if you could somehow get it off just google the socket and see what other CPUs you could fit in there. Beware of the TDP limit though because the cooling system may not be able to handle a 57w processor from haswell.

Mohenjo Daro 10 Posted January 19, 2015 Thx for the replies guys, I guess I won't be upgrading, rather waiting for Skylake to upgrade my laptop with something new.
