Peak14256
I just opened the back of my laptop and found out that my ssd slot has no ssd or connector in it. Any idea what happened?
f0rsakenbg
You must have the 1tb+8gb hybrid hdd. I have the same one also. It has no ssd connector at all. https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/image/serverpage/image-id/36023i1D476ACED2883E52?v=mpbl-

f0rsakenbg
No, just like me you can replace your SATA III HDD with a SATA III SSD if you like.
rientrz
mine too, but mine come with 1TB HDD without SSD, or SSHD. thinking of own soldering but can't get any parts here in Indonesia, both the connector or mSATA M.2 SSD
buras
It seems to me that the same solder socket M2 SSD will not do anything . This is a little another version of the motherboard. I bought the first Y510P was also without this jack . It was only the second , after giving back to the store, the first had a nest. From what I remember , in addition to the slot was soldered a few other electronic components ...
drajitsh
Is there a way to check whether the M2 slot is present or not without opening up the laptop? eg by serial number.
intruder
I don't think so. Opening the back cover won't void your warranty if you are worried about it.
drajitsh
Can anyone anyone tell me the specifications of the m2 slot. I had contacted lenovo support and 2 different techs told me that the m2 slot was not suitable for an ssd. Is it occupied by the WiFi card or is the key different
prins_carnaval
I bought my y500 without SSD, only a 1TB hdd. I installed an msata ssd myself. There where also models that already come with a 24gb (or similar) ssd installed. I think you have another model, just install a ssd yourself. jgdiaz2167
I had my Y500 for almost 2 years, I bought it from ebay with the 1TB HDD, but I installed my own MSATA ssd and a 480Gig ssd too and now I am using the 1TB drive as my backup drive in a hard drive enclosure. The laptop runs much faster with the 2 ssd's.
