Parts ------------ Macbook Pro late 2011 Amd 6770M MacBook Pro (15-inch, Late 2011) - Technical Specifications SSD in optical slot and 16GB ram. I7 quad core. -------------- Sonnet echo express Sonnet - Echo Express Thunderbolt PCIe Expansion Chassis --------------- Nvidia Ref GTX480 ------------------ Apple Thunderbolt cable ------------------ Enermax Liberty 650W Modular PSU ----------------------------- Asus Xonar U7 Thats about all the parts i gathered up for this little DIY. Granted i had everything lying around accept for the thunderbolt enclosure and cable. I picked up the Sonnet EE very cheaply from a guy who did a tech review on it in Oz, and the GTX480 i had lying around from a previous PC. .. perfect ! hehe Total parts spent, 250 AU. Ill be using the SSD in the optical bay to house Windows 8.1 UEFI installed for a Plug & Play experience with the GTX out-putting straight to a nice 24 inch monitor on my desk. Ill not require the macbook screen to be accelerated so this is perfect for me. Findings: ------------ It took me quite a long time trying to get Win 8.1 to install UEFI wise as it would refuse at the end to write to the boot sector. Scratched my head for a long while on that untill i found out that i had to reset the Pram on the macbook. (Command+option+p+r) and then it worked like a charm. The only thing that didnt work is (as much previously discussed) the sound and the video drivers. Sound has no inhouse solution, video can be used using the default windows driver.
