mdspunk86
So I was helping my old roommate restore his Alienware X51 to factory settings the other day. While updating the drivers and checking to make sure everything was working I noticed the cd/dvd/bd drive doesn't play blu rays. I've tried finding a fix for this and even went to the Hitachi LG manufacturer site to look for a solution but found nothing. Has anyone else had this problem and if so is there a fix for it? After the problems with my M14x R2 throttling issue and now this I'm really starting to see what a worthless, money hungry, company Dell is. Now I understand why everyone laughed and made jokes that we bought Alienwares.
o0radryan0o
What software are you using? Blu Ray discs require proprietary software for playback. As far as I know, you can not just load one up in VLC or other media player that hasn't paid for the licensing.
tornado9015
radryan is correct. In order to play blu-rays you will need a player which has paid for the license to play them in addition to your drive, if you restored it to factory, check if it came with powerdvd or some other media player that may have the license. thementallydeceased
You may also just need some missing codecs. I usually use Klite codec pack you can find it here http://www.codecguide.com/download_kl.htm
