plastiK
Hi. i have r3 with i5 2467 cpu. anybody upgraded this to i7? 2617 or 2630?
senzazn12
I am getting mine configured with the i7 2617 CPU. From what I have seen on reviews, the i7 2617 isn't that much of a step up from the i5 2467 CPU. I heard it is only about a 10 % performance increase going from the i5 2647 to the i7 2617. Both are very capable processors for on the go HD video and photo editing based on some reviews.
hanson0291
If anyone is willing to take huge risks.. such as desoldering the cpu.. the 2617m processor uses the BGA 1023 socket. The highest performance i7 that is compatible with this socket is a quad core-8 thread, and here is a comparison between it (3615QE) and the 2617m Intel Core i7-2617M vs i7-3615QE The largest concerns I would have while attempting such a crazy project is The jump in power from 17W to 45W An incompatibility with the motherboard, or destruction of the motherboard Battery life going out the window from massive loss Bios issues That said, it would be an insanely awesome project if it works! No1 has tried it, Im offering this idea out there for someone who hopefully would be crazy enough to try it! If you found a way to declock the processor, that could help? I wish my m11x R3 was a quad core 8 threaded mighty little machine -M11x R3 Nebula Red, Macbook Pro 2010 core2duo
emike09
eBay sellers often have m11x R3 motherboards with the i7 chip and often the 2gb 540m GPU attached for around $350. A steep cost for such a small upgrade, but you could probably sell your i5 board on eBay to help recoup some of that cost. I've also got the i5 model, and wish it had a little more umph. bootmanbill
The m11x is very customizable I'm sure the process can be easily done
