Tech Inferno Fan
Hey guys can you help me with upgrading my processer for my Acer Aspire 4720. Is this possible by any luck ??Acer 4720 has a GM965 chipset per Acer TravelMate 4720 Specs (Core 2 Duo 2GHz, 1GB RAM, 120GB HDD, WIndows XP Pro) - Laptops - CNET Reviews . You could upgrade to a T7500-2.2, T8100-2.1, T8300-2.4, T9300-2.5, T9500-2.7. Only worth it if you get one for low $$ and the physical CPU installation is relatively straightforward. You also want dual-channel RAM (2xsticks) for best performance. You may also be lucky to run a x1E port configuration with your eGPU for 15-30% better performance. If still get unacceptable eGPU performance then consider upgrading to a better eGPU candidate machine as shown at http://forum.techinferno.com/diy-e-gpu-projects/4109-egpu-candidate-system-list-%5Bthin-light%5D.html#post57159 . The eGPU gear can be reused at full performance so long as you purchase a Gen2-capable PE4L 2.1b or PE4H 3.2. Avoid PE4L 1.5 and PE4H 2.4 as they are only Gen1 capable.

Hey @Tech Inferno Fan as you have menioned in your previous reply as of my Acer Aspire 4720, will it be okay if I use PE4H 3.2(PCIe x16 adapter). Just had this doubt as then I would be able to plug in an PCI Express X16 graphics card which would give me a far more better performance. Please confirm if the image I have attached is of PE4H 3.2(PCIe x16 adapter) which you are saying.

PE4L 2.1b has an open-ended x1 slot. They will give exactly the same performance with your system. It's just whichever one's packaging you prefer.
