mmplpri
Hello i got a question as in topic can i put non low voltage memory in to newest alienware 17 with i7 4700 cpu?
kh90123
If I am not mistaken, Haswell mobile chipset HM87 only accepts 1.35V RAM. CPU-Z actually shows them at 1.28V, even lower voltage.
jabujabu
I've also heard new alienware's motherboard using HM87 chipset only accept DDR3L.
utumkodur
it will support ddr3L only
alexxx
Interestingly, while there is a limit on the frequency for ddr3? Perhaps it depends on the processor or on a chipset, it is necessary to specify, and then also want to upgrade the memory.
mw86
I can as well confirm, owning an Alienware 18 myself the haswell motherboard/cpu combo is compatible with DDR3L only. no 1.5v ram but they sell ram sticks that are 1.35v and 1.5v compatible so you can purchase those and use them safely. My Kingston HyperX Impact modules are 1.35v/1.5v compatible and run the 1.35v etc on my system which uses a 4940mx.
