Lenovo Y410p / Y510p - unlocked BIOS / wlan whitelist mod / vbios mod

OK I have successfully modded my bios, but I've now tried two AC 7260 cards on my y510p and neither of them work. I thought the first one was DoA, but I guess not. I installed the latest drivers for the card from Intel and also tried some older versions too, but I can't pick up any wireless networks with it installed. The bluetooth "works" but continues to say "not connected" on the adapter settings. Anyone able to help me out? Much appreciated.

Hello guys, so here is my problem i am trying to figure out how to fix it. For now nothing works.

Like is said in Instructions ive already done everything with success. And here problem comes.

notebook inf: y510p single vga nvidia 755m, intel i5

1. After login to windows sound was roaring. It sounds like when you are trying to disconnect 3,5mm jack from turned-on soundsystem. Definitely it was not good. Than i tried to find some help here but wifi adapter wasn't recognized. I checked device manager and there were about 3 or 4 "devices" UNrecognized. --> i used another computer to get info about how to get back to stock bios.

It was simple just normal bios update from lenovo page. And my worst problem just become.

2. After successful re-flash to stock bios computer restarts once or twice.(seems ok because of BIOS flash) but after when i turned ON notebook it randomly shutdown in few seconds. I figured out that when I unplug battery than notebook work. All drivers recognized, sound is normal without anomaly, but when I tried plug battery as i said notebook just shut down randomly in few sec. I tried to flash again but i need battery to flash. Even i try to edit installation platform.ini to skip battery/power check but without success. I just cant force installation to skip power check.

If someone had some idea just let me know. I am opened to almost for everything.

Have a nice day :)

PS: i tried almost all things i mean "hold 1 min power button without AC and battery" etc.

Does the stock BIOS v3.05 supports the Intel-7260ac, if not I guess I'll have to unlock my bios.

Hi, I had a spare 7260-AC from my previous PC and it prevented the Y510P stock bios from boot: the unlocked bios is required to make it work.

Hi guys, do I need to do this to undervolt my GPU(s)? I'm using nvidia inspector to undervolt, but it seems to not work. I am monitoring my voltage using rivatuner and HWinfo but it gives me the same reading when undervolted or not. Thanks!

Sorry, for the noobish questions, This thread is really long and I also need to get 5 posts before I can DL the files.

I beleive my Bios rev was 4.XX can downgrading my y510P easily create a brick?

Will the Ultrabay SLI card work normally after downflashing to the modded 2.07 , or do I have to flash the ultrabay to get the SLI functionality again?

If I update the BIOS, can i unlock the clock frequency of the GPUs when not connected to AC?

I dont see any options to unlock GPU on battery power(I have unlocked bios). Anyone know how to do this ?

Second question - Should i flash ultrabay GPU? I unlocked bios yesterday but i didnt flash ultrabay GPU. What it gives for me ?

I'm not sure, but everytime i do anything without the AC power, the GPU clock is stack to 135MHz (if i remember correctly).

Is there any other way to prevent this? I read somewhere it should be a setting in the BIOS

No, the battery just cannot supply enough power to GPU at full speed. It's hardware limitation and it cannot be disabled in any way. This limitation was present in every single laptop with powerful nvidia card that I've had. Only thing you can do on battery power is to disable discrete graphics altogether and use only integrated GPU, which is faster than slowed down nvidia GPU.

Thank you for yours reply.

Is that a settings i can change even in the normal BIOS or i still need the unlocked on?

I bought this laptop mainly to use without AC power. I read a lot of opinions that this laptop can work 3-4 hours with battery power. I thought "Its really good time for laptop with two GPUs". But its limited :/

On battery power GPY stays 135mhz on core and 400mhz on memory. Its about 20% of max performance.

But nobody unlocked and tested it. I opened furmark and prime95 on battery power and battery care showed that laptop uses 30 watts. My old samsung laptop uses 60watts on battery without problems. Do you know how to disable in modded/unlocked bios nvidia gpu?

On AC, peak power consumption of my laptop under heavy load was more than 140W, and that was just with single gpu (measured with socket watt-meter). This would kill the battery (and maybe also you, if the battery exploded). So no, you can't unlock gpu on battery, it's hardware protection, deal with it.

Ok, thanks for your answer! Is it possible to select from normal BIOS to use the integrated video card? And will that be locked too?

The y410p has two connector cables; a large main cable, and a smaller second cable. My laptop's smaller cable is broken clean off at connecting tip. What does this second cable do, and is it required for the laptop to boot? Thanks in advance for your help.

got the bios upgraded successfully, however every time my laptop went to hibernate state my Wi-Fi card wasn't showing anymore under Network Connections on wake until I rebooted the laptop. Here's fix for it, use latest drivers Intel Wireless LAN (11abgn, 11bgn, 11ac) for Windows 8 (32-bit, 64-bit), 7 (32-bit, 64-bit) - ThinkPad - Lenovo Support (US), they seem to be newer than one found on Intel website and make sure that this is set to Enable Power Management settings: Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power = Enable. Now every time my laptop wakes, it card is active and connects right away.

Hey guys I'm new to the idea of editing my BIOS and have a question.

I have a Y410P which my friend did some type of BIOS flash to and installed Windows 7 on for me but didn't authenticate it. I'm currently running BIOS v1.10 with Windows 7. This is probably a dumb question but: Will upgrading to v3.05 in order to do this wlan mod affect my ability to run Windows 7/my operating system in any way? I don't want to end up getting locked out of my computer or something. Thank you for your help.

if you have at least bios 3.05 (doesn't have to be unlocked), you can disable nvidia GPU in bios and use only integrated. Integrated gpu is not limited on battery and it's power is somewhere between one third-one half of the power of single gt755

specifically, what option in the bios disables the nvidia card? does this also work with sli laptops?
