Y500 Powers off on boot up. Fine after booting up for the second time

The only thing that springs to mind is spin-up, which is only relevant if you're booting from a HDD. I had this problem bonkers ago (around Pentium 4 "era") and it was related to the HDD needing more juice than supplied on start up, so BIOS didn't detect a bootable drive until second boot when HDD had spin up properly.

On unlocked BIOS, there's an IDE menu with your IDE/SATA devices. Furthest down on that page you'll see the device list and number. Try changing your HDD's Staggered Spin Up state, and see if that does any difference. Otherwise, I don't know.
