Y500 Powers off on boot up. Fine after booting up for the second time

Recommended Posts

So when I turn on my computer (after a shutdown) it will show the Lenovo logo and then power off. But after I hit the power button again to turn it on, it will start up fine. Any ideas? (I'm using the 2.04 modded bios)

The only thing that springs to mind is spin-up, which is only relevant if you're booting from a HDD. I had this problem bonkers ago (around Pentium 4 "era") and it was related to the HDD needing more juice than supplied on start up, so BIOS didn't detect a bootable drive until second boot when HDD had spin up properly.

On unlocked BIOS, there's an IDE menu with your IDE/SATA devices. Furthest down on that page you'll see the device list and number. Try changing your HDD's Staggered Spin Up state, and see if that does any difference. Otherwise, I don't know.

Thanks for the reply! I ended up reinstalling Windows 8 and it seems to be fixed so I didn't get to try out your method but thanks for the suggestion.
