This has happened to me as well, but not just with the corsair extreme edition. Unfortunately, I believe it has to do with the way the hard drive is compatible with what it is connected too. It probably was not designed to be connected to a SATA converter, as they are only typically used for 2.5" HDD's to increase storage space. SSD's are as of now meant more for performance rather than space. My suggestion is find another converter to try, if that doesn't work then unfortunately you won't be able to use it externally.
