I think the current systems need a very drawn-out process to switch from XTU. Clevo's fault.

Well mighty Papusan great score.

 

I personally need something light also for work. I humbly will not compete with you because i'm Wingling not Phoenix! However i think i can get 4ghz/4.1 on CPU + 2000 or maybe 2100 mhz on GPU (will need Prema overclocking lord magics here though)

 

PS

Does anyone seen good guide how to use TS because at first glance it is much more complicated than XTU.

Though my pair of 970Ms is still doing fine in FHD or QHD gaming, but some of the games that I like do not support SLI, such as Gears of War 4, Horizon 3, Quantum Break, etc. This annoyed me sometimes, and happened that I had a chance to be in China for 2 weeks. So well, just did some treasure hunt, and found a MSI 1070 in good price.

 

Here begins with some benchmarks:

Immediately unlocked the card to 200W TDP, core +215 MHz, mem +655 MHz:

Loading temperature of 200W TDP in Furmark with 1280x720 (4xMSAA) after one hour:

Personally I think setting of 720p + 4xMSAA can very well represent general gaming load, 0xMSAA or 2xMSAA consumes too much heat and non realistic, not recommended.

new MSI 1070: $660;

Heat pipe: $2 ~ 3 each depends on length;

So Prema finally got my 980(m?) to clock memory properly, or at least close enough to contend with cards made 980 by birth.

 

1526/7600 3dm11 22339 GPU score with 1.2V VID core.

i'm curious as to how you pulled this off since i have a 1070 as well. even knowing just how to mod the 980DT heatsink is a start :D

i only managed a measly 15315 with a +120 overclock on the core on the 1070 notebook.

About modding the 980DT heat sink, please take a look of the picture below (corner was cut out already). You can compare with yours and see the changes.

If you align the MSI 1070 with the 980DT heat sink, you will find those power phases popping the copper panel and preventing the GPU core from making good contact with the heat sink. Especially the individual one in the corner. I used a hacksaw to cut out the corner, and used the 400 sandpaper to deep-sand the places that I circled, following with refined sanding using 800-grit paper and 2000 grit for polishing. This required a lot of works, I would say adding extra (maybe 3) heat pipes on top of the 980M heat sink would be much easier if you don't want the trouble.

About the vbios of the 1070, I will recommend to wait for what @prema might come up later or a modded nvflash. Because at this moment, as I know, any modification of the pascal vbios cannot bypass the nvflash and requires a programmer to program it. This involves extra spending in a programmer and higher risk of bricking a card easily. 

I can't provide the vbios because it's not my property. I found it in a chinese forum; if you search "vBIOS硬刷 Pascal GTX1060/70/80" in google, maybe you will find the original thread.

The below post by Dreamonic is a reference of editing the pascal vbios using hex-editor, I tried to mod it by myself and resulted in black screen on boot, not sure what is the cause.

1. did you cut and sand with a dremel or something?

2. what do you mean by "sand this deeply inward? possible to get better pics of that section?

3. How do you apply the smaller heatsink fins?

 

i can see the difference between your heatsink and my unmodded one and I am wondering that this might help with temps even at stock TDP.

 

i also noticed that the area in red touches the heatsink...not sure of that's ok.

2. Hopefully the below picture can give you a better insight. If you put the 1070 together with the 980DT heat sink, you will see a better picture of where to cut out or sand out. Because your goal is to have the core contact the heat sink evenly with 4 screw holes aligned.

3. Just 3M double sides thermal tape, it came with the small heat fins I got from amazon. If you don't plan to resell your card, you can use some thermal adhesive.

4. It's okay to have the red-circled components to touch the heat sink, I applied some thermal paste there to dissipate the heat.

@coolane one last question, the mini heatsinks, what size are they? most of the chips / mosfets look like they're at least 1cm x 1cm (i checked my 980DT as a reference) - is that correct? i don't want to get bigger heatsinks and cut them down as that might screw with the sink's ability to transfer the heat away.

 

EDIT: I found some heatsinks that look similar on moddiy.com so i bought a few and some transfer tape. all i need to get now is dremel to "trim" the heatsink and the sand paper then i shall be set to go with this mod. i've started my commitment to this LOL

Uau I see mxm is not dead at all. Any chance in the future a p170em may get an 1060/1070 upgrade bios? Would it even be compatible?

 Prema already have tested 1060 in P150XX once so there might be a chance...

 

My new score after heatsink swap and TS usage. Temps are much better but stock BIOS/firmare is still problematic (current and power limits + my corsair 3000 mhz don't want to work properly).

Hello everyone!

I have a problem with my GPU.

When it's overclocked:

Core: +332MHz

Memory: +350MHz

Voltage: 1,5V

It crashes often during gaming, especially when I ran 3dmark firestrike.

GPU-Z shows under PerfCap reasons: Idle.

What causes this issue?

Is my power adapter not strong enough? I have a 180W PSU.

      Hi guys, I am the proud owner of a Clevo p775dm3-g notebook purchased from azom.systems (authorized Clevo reseller in India, Model rebranded as Azom Legion-17.3 inches). Here are my specs:

      Core i7 7700 (non-K version): undervolted by 110 mv and turbo boost disabled in BIOS- machine uses prema mod BIOS.
      GTX 1080: undervolted by 100 mv on all frequency steps using MSI afterburner voltage/frequency curve editor. clocks are untouched.
      16 GB DDR4: Cant remember clocks.
      1440p 120 Hz screen: No tinkering done to refresh rate.

      CPU has been delidded and repaste has been done on both CPU/GPU dies with gallium based TIM-Coolaboratory liquid ultra if I recall correctly.

      My issue is GPU hitting max temp limit of 90 degrees while playing DOOM and framerate drops from 110 avg to mid 60s-70s with horrible stuttering- this is thermal throttling for sure.

      System was running beautifully after repaste at 86 degrees max/ 77 degrees average at 100 percent fan speed. A month later I decided to see how much further I could push the system and ended up undervolting the CPU/GPU and RAM even further. The RAM undervolting part didnt work as well as I'd hoped, and I ended up resetting the BIOS to undo everything and reapply the previous setting (-110 for CPU with turbo boost disabled.) 

      I noticed that immediately after BIOS reset, both my CPU and GPU temps were 5-10 degrees higher even with the undervolt/underclock applied. Also, I think the fans were a bit louder before I reset the BIOS which leads me to believe that for some reason the fans are now capped at 80% max fan speed. There doesnt seem to be a fan speed selector in the BIOS or anywhere else so I cant say for sure whether this is a fan related issue or something else.Before the reset I could override the BIOS setting and set the fans to 100% by pressing fn+1, could I have done something to that setting after resetting the BIOS ? I dont think I have damaged the CPU or GPU as temps are holding fairly steady at 90-91 degrees and laptop doesn't shut down while gaming.

      If I have overlooked something or if anyone reading this has any solution help would be greatly appreciated.
      All settings/drivers/windows version/app version are exactly the same before and after BIOS reset.

      Hi all,
       
      It has been a while since I did anything to my laptop (Clevo P670RG-G) and since I recently got a VR Headset I wish I could overclock my GPU a little. So far the NVidia software (on windows) doesn't allow me to overclock it (the linux sort of allows, which some custom Xorg options) so I decided to give a try modding the vbios.
       
      I read all sorts of issues / guides about it, and it seens that the hardware topology (where the vbios is stored and how things are connected) changes from machine to machine.
       
      What I know about my laptop is that it has two VBios, one for Hybrid Mode and one for Discrete Mode. I'm currently running the discrete mode.
       
      I dumped my VBios using GPU-z and opened up in Maxwell II Bios Tweaker. Everything seens fine so far.
       
      So I have few questions about it:
       
      - There is a way to just unlock the VBios to show the overclocking options in NVidia software? (That way I dont need to reflash to change clocks)
      - I can just flash this GPU-z dump to my VBios?
      - If I brick my GPU, that GPU-z dumped image is the raw SPI image, so if I managed to physically access the VBios, I can just reflash over it?
      - I saw some people saying that I might need as well to flash the main laptop bios as well, is that really needed?

      There are several threads on requesting BIOS modifications here on T | I but I thought another one wouldn't hurt.
       
            Your request should look like:
      Brand Model Type of modification(For example: Unlocked, added support, Logo, microcode, ME firmware etc  
      I'll respond as soon as I have time as I'm also currently working on other projects(Requests by PM is also ok)
      If anyone else have the knowledge and time feel free to respond to requests

      Greetings, I have a p650rs and I have this little problem that I can not play in MRHYBRID mode, only if the charger is connected, and I do not see high quality videos or play if it is in discret mode, if the A / C is connected.
       
      Any idea what it could be?
       
      I have the latest version of Bios and ECF
      I've been looking for custom-made Vbios but I can not find anything.
