What you have to run depends on what you are trying to install.

In case of the P-EM models it is "update.bat"..."flashme.bat" is only for the old DOS ME installer

Hi Prema,

could you add a mod for the P150EM bios to remove the 2GHz CPU throttling when discrete GPU is in use?

Cheers,

Selphie

Throttlestop gets rid of throttling that I got when using the discrete gpu. It would be nice though to not need to run TS.

I have fixed it on my W110ER... ;)

Does the CPU Turbo deactivate while dGPU is active on P-EM models, too? Or how does it show?

OK I am going through the code, they use a different method on the EM series...

Turbo turns off.

CPU isn't really burning that much power btw. It reports around 25W high when dGPU is on without updating the microcode.

Apparently the Turbo limit when using dGPU only affects P150EM, the P170EM is unaffected.

I'm running a P170em bios.

The current BIOS v17 code that is responsible for the throttle is equal in P170EM & P150EM, but it looks like on the P-EM Series the whole throttle thingy was only introduced in the later BIOS revisions. I am looking at an earlier BIOS it is absent, so are some sleep-states...but it helps me in isolating it, so let's see. I am digging :)

OK, I have isolated the code, ready for a beta run tonight Kheng-man? ;)

What settings are you using for ThrottleStop?

1) Launch Throttlestop v5+

2) Set multiplier to “Turbo” (Highest value) and check the box.

3) Click “Turn On” in the bottom-right corner.

4) Click “Save” in the bottom-left corner.

I am! Running a bit older bios anyway.

Did you also get rid of the stupid x15 multi limit when on battery? It doesn't save power at all while making things take 2x as long to load. TS kills it, but it's still silly.

Also the missing sleep states in early bios makes sense since the earlier bioses did have poor battery life. IMO battery life is still a bit short for an 8 cell, but 5h is still decent.

Thanks Prema, these look great. I'm excited to try out the P150EM T1 version tomorrow and finally get the fan power back.

I have a Sager NP9150 with Corsair Vengeance 32Gb @ 1600Mhz. Win 8 Pro 64Bit.

My system currently is:

ME FW Version: 8.1.40.1416

Bios Revision: 1.02.17LS1 Sager

KBC-EC firmware Revision: 1.02.11SA Sager

Which Prema Mod should I use? The 1T or 2T version? I'm thinking 2T because I have 32GB RAM but I'm asking just to make sure since I'm usng Corsair Vengeance @1600Mhz.

Also my Windows key is on the left and my Fn key is on the right side. Do I need to manually switch the keys or is the placement fine?

Thanks for helping a newbie.

Try the T1. If it's unstable (unlikely) then you can safely flash to a t2 bios after removing 2 sticks of ram.

Try 1T.

I have Corsair Vengeance DDR3-1600 8GB*4.

No problem with DDR3-1600 10-10-10-27 1T.

and I oveclocked these to DDR3-1866(11-11-11-27) 1T.

It's stable and passed memtest86+ with this setting.

(1866-10-10-10-27 1T wasn't able to pass the tests)

Thanks all for the advise.

I upgraded with 1T and all appears well. I really like the feature where the cooling fan kicks in when the temps begin to rise at 49C keeping my laptop cool between 47-48C. Really great!

I can't get the system to boot in UEFI mode. I have Windows 8 installed on an NP9150. What settings should I have? With Sager's stock BIOS I could use UEFI mode with just having OS set to Windows and UEFI set to enabled. I could toggle Secure Boot on and off and the system would always still boot correctly in UEFI mode. Now, when I enable UEFI mode, the system will always boot and go to the BIOS screen. I can tell it my OS is Windows 8 or Other and boot in normal BIOS mode, but I can't get UEFI boot to work. I've tried all combination of Secure Boot settings and no luck. Any help please, someone?

I have a iBuypower CZ-17 laptop, with a 2012 AMI BIOS that has E1762 as the version, which I believe means I have an MSI G70 motherboard. It has a 675MX GPU, but it's not useable in Windows 10 despite being "seen" in the device manager. I believe an updated, unlocked BIOS would fix my issue and have located the thread on this site with the BIOS I need.

First of all, am I right? Will this fresh BIOS make my laptop that originally ran Windows 8 work with this old GPU?

And second, I created this account, will wait 24 hours and made this post. Is that enough to allow me to download the file, or do I need to post elsewhere?

      Thanks!

      Title sums it up.

TL;DR: we have a Clevo that runs a desktop CPU, one with those huge 82 Wh batteries. We remove the GPU and let it use the CPU's integrated graphics. How much time for the battery to go from 100 to 0? Is it comparable to an ultrabook's?

I'm theorizing a mobile set with a static eGPU and an upgradable CPU. Given a hypothetical user that needs fast processing on the go and long battery life while retaining very high degrees of mobility, but at home wants a powerful machine to run most games, I guess that would be their best bet. It would surely be more convenient to keep everything in the same disk. And even though the thing would be quite heavy to carry around, changing CPU would be more cost-efficient than changing an entire laptop. (Not sure if I'm right here, and also I'm not sure whether the motherboard in a Clevo would be replaceable when the new CPU needs a different socket, which is another reason why I'm asking here.)

If my above guesses aren't correct, then an ultrabook with Thunderbolt and without a dedicated GPU would be a better choice. If they are, then we would be carrying more weight in exchange of a more cost-efficient setup, which I think would be a fair tradeoff.

Also I am aware of the heating problems that these laptops suffer from, at least compared to a desktop setup. Would they be solved by moving the GPU out of the chassis, and instead plugging it with an eGPU dock via Thunderbolt port?

What do you think? Is it doable? If not, why?

A part of my BIOS got corrupted that controls my laptops backlights. Other methods like the Gary Key fix did not work for me because I do not get any light up during post. i followed this guide  that says I need to extract and use the 6MB portion of an 8MB bios dump, only AFUWIN tells me "Error, ROM file size does not match existing BIOS size which is because my laptop BIOS size is only 5.87MB.  I don't need to flash the whole BIOS, I only need to flash a portion of it.

I've searched everywhere online for a dump of my laptop model but non exist that I know of.

I fiddled around with modding my laptops BIOS to unlock XMP profiles and hopefully seeing if optimus could be disabled. After flashing my modded bios and trying it out, I noticed that my keyboards backlight no longer turns on. I was unaware it requires an official BIOS to function. They backlights wont turn on unless ASUS ATK package is installed but now it seems it also needs an official BIOS?

The modded ROM and tool I used if anyone has any experience with this and doesn't mind telling me what to enable/disable, or anything else i can do to re-enable them

      I installed an NVIDIA Quadro P4000 Max-Q in a Clevo P750DM-G.

      Device manager hardware ID shows:
      PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_1BB7&SUBSYS_75021558&REV_A1

I have done the standard inf file mod, then disabled driver enforcement as I have done successfully in the past, but it's not working this time. The install starts, then fails less than half way through. I have tried the DCH version, standard version, and studio versions and none of them will work. I am probably missing something. Could it be the result of the vBIOS?
