Lenovo Y400 / Y500 - unlocked BIOS / wlan whitelist mod

Recommended Posts

Does the Y500 have a way to do a bios reset? I may or may not have been messing with my memory timings and can't start now.

I have install my Intel N6300 but there is a problem, when the 1st time i plug in the card it work perfectly fine, but when i shut down or reboot, the n6300 card detected but cannot connect to any network. The only way to have this card working is, i have to go bios, disable the wireless card shut down and go to bios enable and boot it again.

I am using Window 7 pro 64,original bios v1.04 ,unlocked bios v1.05, anyone know how to fix this problem to make the card fully functioning?

I guess that's a crappy AV software which randomly blocks signed drivers...

Go to the bios and see what's written in there.

Or run dxdiag.

Or use HWiNFO and check the system summary.

Lol svl7 way to rub it in his face.

Easiest way is to enter BIOS by tapping F2 repeatedly as soon as you boot up. It will take you to the main BIOS screen which will have the version number.

I need to check it first, but most likely that's not possible. Also this update is not officially released yet. If you really want to make sure that it hasn't been tampered with, then just flash the stock 2.02 with the included Insyde utility. If it isn't signed it won't flash.

I can confirm that BIOS v2.02 has been officially released for the Y500. I just received a replacement Y500 unit that was manufactured 3/13/13 and it comes with 2.02. The unit I returned because of defects was manufactured 12/27/12 and came with 1.05. So it looks like there has been at least one BIOS update since 1.05, perhaps more.

I do not plan on installing a different WLAN card so an unlocked 2.02 BIOS is not urgent for me, but if svl7 wants to unlock this version I will help. I'm sure it will be a good resource for future Y500/Y400 owners who purchase this version.

I'm wondering if I should just flash my Y500 BIOS v2.02 with the modded 1.05 BIOS. I still have both units and there isn't a lick of difference between the GUI of the unmodded 1.05 and 2.02. But what do I know; they could be very different under the hood.

How does one go about obtaining a BIOS dump of their machine?

Made it to the flashing part, but when trying to flash I now get the following error:

Error 28: Protected Range Registers are currently set by BIOS, preventing flash access.

please contact the target system BIOS vendor for an option to disable Protected Range Re1gisters.

Any advise?

If you guys want me to mod v2.00 then I need a copy of it... Should be pretty obvious, especially since Lenovo doesn't seem to provide bios updates.

In this thread you can post your requests for Lenovo ThinkPad X240.
If someone wants upgrade Wi-Fi card and remove whitelist, or unlock hidden advanced menus and settings in bios setup menu, or upgrade to new display (with brightness control), then you can post your request in this thread.
      Important!
For creating your personal bios dump and to flash your bios mod, you must use any SPI programmer  (like CH341A programmer) and a SOIC8/SOP8 test clip!

Just dump your Bios using any SPI programmer  (like CH341A programmer) and a SOIC8/SOP8 test clip, then post it in this thread or upload it to any fileserver and send me the link.

      Hi,
I am looking to remove the bios wifi whitelist restriction for a Lenovo G700 version 7ACN89WW . This is version 3.07
I have used a programmer to read direclly from bios chip but it has failed. Is there any other method available to remove bios restriction from this laptop?

Hello to all big format laptop users!
I`ll try to make it as short as possible. I have the Alienware M18X R1 for about 7years, i think. It was a problematic machine all the time. But during warranty period local support fixed everything super fast and free of charge :). I even upgraded from gtx 580m sli to gtc 780m sli. And made primary hdd samsung evo ssd. Unlocked Bios. Power brick i changed 3 times by now. Battery once. And 6moths ago one of the long time ago installed 780m died ( started with artifacts on screen then refused to boot windows). Replaced that and was as happy as ever. The machine kept working stable and i pushed all i could get from it in reasonably modern titles. Even tried RDR2 on default settings, gave me 17fps :). Not sure if SLI is supported for that game. The point is it was running fine for last 6 months.
What happened:  Gaming as usual, room temp 23C. After around 2hr suddenly black screen. The laptop switched off by itself.
What i check: First checked power brick. Green light off. Unplug from wall and laptop. After plugging in wall green light back on. Connect laptop light off.
Next: Tried take out battery, unplug. And hold the PWR button for 1 min. Try to start on battery - nothing. Plug in - green light off again.
Later: after some googling found that need to try to remove video cards. Done that. OK Nice! Plug in power and it starts as nothing happened on the integrated intel video.
Found out that i one of the video cards is plugged in that triggers the power brick to trip. (the original upgrade 780m from years ago).
Start with GPU: Insert the other one in its slot. Systems start. But immediately i notice there`s no video drivers. OK i think reinstalling and job done. Drivers reinstalled, asked for restart. After restart nothing. Still no driver.
Windows device manager: This is bogging me. it shows that i have 670M instead of 780m. Windows gives Code 43 Error.
BIOS: I go into bios just to find that that it has reverted back to A05 (hows that possible?). And its so limited that i cant even choose witch video card to use. But it detects nVidia GFX.
How to get at least my single 780M to be working?! Update bios again to unlocked? Did this event fry Vbios on my other card maybe?
      System: m18x R1
      SLI gtx 780m
      Unlocked bios (before event)
      nvidia driver 443.x(or there about)
      Win: 7, 64bit
