Hi again, i have a question;

I'm using BIOS v2.04. I have SLI confugration. I'm going to be able to update my first GPU.. (After i paid 6 bucks to save time)

But how will i do for ultrabay GPU?

Because -svl7- says that " Flashing the ultra bay 650m - only for SLI users with BIOS v2.02: "

So what can i do?  Thanks for answers.

SS-GPU.jpg

Don't worry, Ultrabay vBIOS is separate from primary GPU and will flash fine on v2.04.

Hi again guys, i did it

But now i have some problems with voltage control, before when i had stock bios, my GPU's voltage was 0.812 V and when i was playing games it was going to 1000-1025 mV.

Now i changed the voltage but it didnt effect, it seems like stock. Still going on games 1000-1025 mV, and my game (Need For Speed 2016) crashes after 5-6 minutes.

So what can i do? Thanks for replies.

The actual 'zero' for voltage offset is at +112.5 mV. So +125 mV adds 12.5 mV to stock, +137.5 mV adds 25 mV, etc.

Oh thanks for reply -octiceps- :sorcerer:

I will try that, and let you know how it was going :frantics:

Edit : Game still crashing after 5-6 minutes. Dxdiag error says that graphic card removed or undetected.. :too_sad2:

And also check the picture, there are some drops after i open the game ; voltage drops from 1050 mV to 0.812 mV than its going again to 1000 mV than 1050 mV..

Hm ... It's pretty strange.

When i try to start the "BiosFixer_2.0" i can see it starting in the task-manager, but i see no window.

The windows log got errors:

If it doesn't happen at stock, then the OC is unstable.

Looks OK to me. If adaptive power mode is selected in Nvidia driver, it will dynamically switch P states (hence frequency and voltage) depending on load. You can change it to prefer max perf if desired to prevent this.

You're using a voltage offset of +162.5 mV in Inspector, which is effectively a +50 mV overvolt, or 1.05 V. The reason max voltage is reported as 1.087 V is that the normal vBIOS behavior will drop it down to 1.05 V after GPU reaches ~60C. Same behavior is observed on stock voltage but it drops from 1.025 V to 1 V.

So I've gone through this entire thread and about 3 dozen others over the span of about 20 hours trying to get all the correct software together. Almost none of the software on this website (that I paid the 6 bux for) is usable. My computer says this application isn't compatible then the few that do start are missing the .bat file so I can't even use them. The HP boot usb maker doesn't move any files to the flashdrive at all and just freezes my computer at bootup. I have no idea where to go from here as I have no idea where to even start when I can't backup my bios or even modify it.

There are a LOT of steps, and different tools being used. If you'd like some help, then you've got to try things step by step. You'll need GPU-Z or NvidiaInspector to see your current settings (and bios, etc). Screen shots of the errors, etcs. It's not easy, but it isn't that hard either. I had trouble at first, but figured it out by doing things SLOWLY.

I'd say a GPU-Z or InvidiaInspector screenshot of your current state to start. And info on your current OS and hardware.

when you even didn't get your boot-stick on running, you, my friend, are doing it wrong. and it's not the forums fault, but yours.

even thou, when you not even say which errors your pc is showing, you wil get no help, cause the ppl here are no psychics

I'm getting Error 28 with fptw64. Unfortunately, prr2 that fixes this error isn't compatible with x64. The instructions at the beginning don't address x64 issues and 95% of the posts deal with GPU issues. There's no way to search these 80+ pages for details and cross referencing the entire site only yields ~4 results and only 2 deal with error 28. With no answers. I've run through my 10 downloads for 6 bucks thinking my downloads were corrupt. Where do I go from here? I just need to replace this faulty wifi card.

Okay I submitted the screenshots of Nvidia inspector for both of my cards. My setup is a Lenovo y500 with windows 10 64 bit. My bios is on version 2.04. I have an i7-3630QM, 8 gigs of DDR3.

I assumed the flashdrive didn't load the correct files because there were no files on it, unless when you create a boot drive the files are invisible.

@octiceps

Really thank you, i did it and it is working well for last 48 hours.

I'm running my gpu's with 1150/2400 with 1.075 V. Also the temperatures were not so high ( after 2-3 hours play GPU's 81-82 C max. ; processors 83 C max.)

Thank you for your helps.

@Jecklen16

I did this 3-4 days ago on Windows 10 x64 with BIOS v2.04. First thing, you cant see what is inside the USB. For me it was the same, I coudn't see something inside USB but it was OK for MS-DOS restart. It was working.

Second thing everything you download were for MS-DOS, not windows. You should read again, trust me it is so easy.

Good luck.

Lenovo Y400 / Y500 - 'unlocked' BIOS / wwan-wlan whitelist removal + modified VBIOS for higher overclockin

Thanks very much for all this information.  I recently upgraded my modem, router, and pc wireless to AC.  I knew that I could eventually upgrade the wifi on the 3 year old Y500, but didn't know all the steps.  I found a cheap/ used intel 7260 that I hope will help improve my laptop.  Will report back once I get going.

Ok. Cool. See in the NvidiaInspector pic, for GPU 1, you should see the Bios ends in 33, you know that it's still un-modded.

First thing is make a backup of your current bios:

  1. Get that FPT Windows x64 version you downloaded from this site.
  2. Un-zip it somewhere you can find it. It helps to create a new folder for it.
  3. Open a Command Prompt as an Administrator. [Right click the Win-key, click "Command Prompt (admin)"].
  4. Change the directory to where you unzipped the fptw63.exe files. (If you don't know how to do this, this may be too advanced for you.)
  5. Within the directory you unzipped those files, run the following:
  6. fptw64.exe -d bkupbios.bin -bios
  7. You should NOW see a new files called bkupbios.bin in that directory.

Next make that USB Bootdisk. (I had problems with making a USB bootdisk with the HP tool they recommended too. Mine was also blank.)

  1. Get Rufus: http://rufus.akeo.ie/
  2. Use that to make a Freedos USB Boot drive.
  3. It should have files on it.
  4. Then follow the original directions, and report.

Hopefully the rest of the steps work.

  • 2 weeks later...

I got my new wifi adapter and will be installing today hopefully.

So far I was able to make the bootable drive and do a back up of my bios, but when I run the bios fixer, it doesn't run like it does in the pictures.  It makes a black dos command type window.

It asks for the bios file so I drag and drop the back up copy and it says to enter the name of the modified backup bios.  It's there I get stuck and I am not sure what to do.  I was thinking maybe I used the wrong file or set the bios fixer utility incorrectly, but I'm not sure where I messed up.  In the tutorial it makes a modified bios.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thx!

Edit:  Last week I updated the 2.02 bios to 2.04 directly from lenovo

Y500

Windows 8.1

Hi, i was taking the same mistake. When i was trying to drag the Backup Bios file to the program, the program wasn't react. So try to take your bios backup with diffirent method (you can find on google) and check it's extension.

I remember that my backup bios's extension was ".bin" but when i drag ".bin" file, it wasn't react, so i find a different way to backup my bios and my bios backuped with ".rom" extension. When i drag ".rom" backup file, the program suddenly reacted and created a modded bios file. (but you must drag again and again until the program react )

Good luck.

I used the following link off a youtube guide and it made .rom copy of my bios that is the same same 4.5mb as the original.  It didn't work either.  I hope I didn't compromise my laptop because I had to disable avast to run it.  Damn Lenovo.  I will remember all this bs just because they wanted to nickel and dime us on the wifi card

http://www.mediafire.com/download/55b9tnsewfn0i89/Universal+BIOS+Backup+ToolKit+2.0.zip

I am going to start over.  I just realized I did download  an upgraded 2.07 BIOS from here, but I don't see where and how it gets used.  Hopefully that is why this isn't working right.  I am a terrible multi-tasker and should have done this when I was free in the evening lol
