Unlocked ThrottleStop For Alienware M17X R3/R4+M18X R1/R2

I'm using throttleStop due to XTU IOCBIOS buggy behavior and constant speed drops 3.2 GHz to 3.0/2.9 GHz (2760QM) + unnecessary services. ThrottleStop speeds up my encoding work, no more XTU freezes thanks to uncleweb. To unlock TDP TPL values/Turbo PWR Limit MSR Lock : http://forum.techinferno.com/alienware-m17x/2279-%5Bm17x-r3%5D-bios-a12-unlocked-sata-tweak.html

e.g. Alienware M17XR3 QM processor (XM of course values will differ and performance....I'll get one soon), the same can be done with R4/M18XR1/R2 + Unlocked BIOS, thanks to svl7.

1-Power options>High performance>Change Plan Settings>Change advanced power settings>Processor power management>Minimum/Maximum processor state 100%.

2-Bios>Power>Advanced CPU Control>Turbo PWR Limit MSR Lock>Disabled

3- Advanced Options>Performance Options Menu>Override Turbo Settings>set maximum short term turbo power limit 72> Long duration 56 >Long term Power Limit 72 >F10 save/exit.

4- Open ThrottleStop>click TPL>look for the default maximum short term turbo power limit (W) and set long term turbo power limit (W) with the same value: 72W >hit apply >options make sure Do not reset FID / VID on Exit is checked the same with start minimized leave it on Monitoring only mode and close it.

5- Open Task scheduler -click Task scheduler library >right click create task A) name your task >set Run with the highest privileges >Configure for Windows 7 B) Triggers>New > Begin the task: AT Log on -task scheduler must start ThrottleStop only after Intel® Management services does so set a delay start*, click the 15 minutes option and set it to 3 C) Actions> New >Start a Program >Browse ThrottleStop.exe D) Conditions >uncheck everything E) Settings ->check allow task to run on demand >unckeck Stop the task if runs longer than 3 days >Check If the running task does not end when requested force it to stop.

ThrottleStop 5.00 Downloads

* -Delay start may vary depending on your system Hardware, if throttleStop launches first Intel management services will override it.

* Obs.Windows 8 clean install. There's no need to set a delay start with windows 8 native driver for Intel Management Engine.

Windows 8 Upgrade ("keep files/ Settings"). Uninstall ME>Reboot>Download Microsoft Update Catalog >7Zip extract>Device manager>Update driver "Unknown Device"> Browse my computer/Include Subfolders>Browse exctacted folder>Install.

Thanks for the post. Plus rep when I can. Very informative and nicely done. I love Throttle Stop. I use it running always in backround but this serves its purpose very well. Nice work j95. Its great how you can raise amp and watts in these and run full turbo as long as temps are low enough. Nice 3.2ghz wprime is nice work.

Can you help me?

Sorry I have just found this advanced option, it's Override Turbo Setting, can we use the power limit > 72 as 99 is the maximum?

Thanks

Set 72-56-72 these are the values given using the XTU method, the real short max is 60 (55=M17XR3) but it ends with small oscillations.

I agree on a non xm this is right where it needs to be to get full turbo. I am now using 72watts on my XM for gaming clocks and never drops with this. I use 112amp but 108 is barely lower so that is probably perfect there too.

Tested again and multiplier fluctuates with this new bios still better than XTU but we never now what changes Dell made so for safety I will edit instructions and set 60-56-60, also found that the Crucial M4 randomly not getting detected at boot.

Edit : No issues.

Any firmware updates for the M4? Also you could check the connection of the hard drive and see if its connected good or loose in anyway.

Yeah I tried that first, a blind flash from Unlocked A08 seems to fix things.

Thanks.

Great glad that solved it. You're welcome bro. We of the T|I nation have to stick together.

Will Throttlestop help with the downclocking that happens with the GTX580m at 73C?

This when requested forces the cpu to run at full turbo speed all the time, to prevent gpu throttle use HWinfo fan control with task scheduler http://forum.techinferno.com/t|i-member-product-reviews/1416-hwinfo.html

Run wPrime or TS benchmark, speeds should remain constant(temps).

There's a fix for XTU 2.1 (Sandy Bridge) download Microsoft SQL Server Compact 3.5 Service Pack 2 for Windows Desktop https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=5783 7-Zip>extract>first Install the 32-bit version followed by the 64-bit one>install XTU 2.1https://downloadcenter.intel.com/confirm.aspx?httpDown=http://downloadmirror.intel.com/19683/eng/XTU_2.1.zip&lang=eng&Dwnldid=19683&keyword=%22%22extreme+tuning+utility%22%22>reboot.

24/7, even better as XTU 2.1 won't install under Win 8.1 due to IOCBIOS instant BSOD.

XTU or TS won't work with m17x R4 in terms of increasing TDP. Even with unlocked bios and proper settings such as msr lock disabled, I found it is impossible in m17x R4 to increase the stock TDP of CPU.

I have tested this with four m17x R4 and a few CPUs (XM and QM), and nothing helped to increase the stock TDP setting.

XM CPU wont consume more than 67w and QM 55w.

If anybody can prove I am wrong, I would be more than happy to know how to break the "intel law" in m17x R4.

Works like a charm i7-2720qm speed consistently around 2.9 Ghz- 3.1 Ghz. My system wont allow 99 but 72 as max for long and short limits. I set it to 60, and 72 for long and short limits but it really didnt make any difference. Left it at 72.

I also downloaded "There's a fix for XTU 2.1 (Sandy Bridge) download Microsoft SQL Server Compact 3.5 Service Pack 2for Windows Desktophttps://www.microsoft.com/en-us/down...s.aspx?id=57837-Zip>extract>first Install the 32-bit version followed by the 64-bit one>install XTU 2.1https://downloadcenter.intel.com/con...+utility%22%22>reboot." but it still wouldn't allow me to change the power limits to 99.

Nonetheless Im very happy with the clock speed consistency..Thks will +rep when i can.

PS:CPU temps 70-75 degrees celcius. I also noticed that my TRL max core1 is 33, core2 is 32, core3 is 30, and core4 is 30. I cannot change any of these values. But I assume that if all cores ran at 33 i would be able to run at 3.2 Ghz(CPU max Turbo speed); because the multiplier is 33T.

and how can i change the max tdp from 45w to 55w? nevermind i think i figured it out.

ok i did notice some throttling during game play seem as though its only to control cpu temp tho is that normal? my temps went in to 90's then throttled.

update: i went into the bios and changed the lower and upper power limit to 55. Which assume must be watts(cause the i7-2720qm max TDP is 55w). Went back in to throttlestop and did the same. But temp varaitions continue along with throttling.

240W PSU ?

- BIOS -> Override Turbo Settings 99W-56-99W -> F10

- XTU set 99W-56-99W -> reboot

- BIOS -> 72W-56-72W -> Advanced CPU Control -> Pri Plane Current Limit 108A set 864 value (first option only) -> F10.

- Match settings using ThrottleStop -> Power Limits 72W-56-72W (108A) -> check Clock Modulation/Chipset Clock Mod 100% -> check/set Multiplier Turbo http://forum.techinferno.com/alienware-m17x-aw-17/2285-unlocked-throttlestop-alienware-m17x-r3-r4-m18x-r1-r2-2.html#post49743

- Options -> Do not Reset FID / Vid on Exit (default)-> Start Minimized/Minimize on Close -> check show CPU (temps).

- In game temps monitoring HWiNFO + MSI Afterburner 3.0.0 Beta 18 (64-bit support) http://forum.techinferno.com/t|i-member-product-reviews/1416-hwinfo.html
