Lenovo Y580 / Y480 'unlocked' BIOS versions

Recommended Posts

I have one more question to svl7 or someone who knows how to modify bios (most important thing to me is remove whitelist)

Is there option to modify my backup of BIOS?

I made backup and it is restorable

But is there someone who can edit it and remove whitelist?

Because in fptw64 bios from Lenovo and from svl7 are not restorable and can crash my BIOS :/

I know there are some articles showing how to remove but I’m afraid I can crash my BIOS

Good Morning,

I would like to excuse my last post.

For my Y580 I need the BIOS without the whitelist, because my original WiFi-Card broke down and I need a new one immediately.

Is there anyone who could help me with the open BIOS?

My original BIOS has the Version 2.0x

Thx for your help

Hello all my fellow hackster's: Well I finished reading all 58 pages. Sorry to read all the bastahole's that borked their Y580's. My condolence's. One question I don't believe was answered is if you turn off the "Switchable Graphics" option in the bios after the white list mod, does it still work or is the nVidia 660M card always on? I am not a gamer so to keep the heat down as much as possible is a priority. I just want a better wlan card. I am still undecided on the mod.

Thanks,

Y580 Bios v8.01

Shipped with Windows 8.1

Running Win 7 64

Samsung 840 Pro SSD

I have tried o replace my 2200N with an 7260AC and get the wireless NIC error, so i get here. Now that my Y580 ist out of warranty i will try the unlocked bios. So thanks for the work. Do the newer lenovo  Notebooks (e.g. Y50-70) also have such a whitelisted bios ?

Greetings!

I recently purchased an Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6205, since I was fed up with my laptop's lack of 5GHz support.

After I found out that the Y580 has a whitelist for the network cards, I flashed the 2.xx unlocked BIOS, which @svl7 so gracefully provided in this thread.

The thing is that, afterwards, whenever I tried to ping any server (even my router) I would sometimes get spikes of about 300-600 ms on both 2.4GHz and 5GHz, which doesn't occur on my phone on 5GHz, neither does it happen on my laptop's older card or my phone on 2.4GHz.

So, now I'm torn between two possibilities:

1. The wireless card is a dud or my laptop doesn't like that one in particular

2. The BIOS interfere with the connection for some reason(I don't do low-level programming, so I'm not sure if that's even possible)

I just ordered a Intel Wireless-AC 7620 just to see if I can get that one to work, but if it's the BIOS at fault, what can I do so that I don't waste the money I spent on 2 WLAN cards...

Hey guys, new around here and stumbled onto this post because the BIOS for my y580 died when I tried to restore it to defaults. I cant boot at all and I am hoping the tools in this thread will help me bring my laptop back to life. I am unable to grab the download and I am assuming that this is because I am a new member. I would really appreciate it if someone could help me out here and show me how to get my account validated or PM me a link to the download if that is possible.

That's not the bios but Intel themselfs.I have 7260N and even there is a problem with ping spikes.I turned off all the energy management options in windows(power plan) then it works very well.

In your case check the link.It will fix your problem.

Hello all,

Does anyone flash to the 8.x version of BIOS for Y480, and can answer my question please?

I wonder if does the newer version enable more boot options?

For example, under boot, besides UEFI, also has Legacy support and CSM, looks like the attached image.

I am currently having 2.06 BIOS on my Y480 laptop.

Thanks.

Hi there,

My Y580's BIOS is V2.0.5. Which of the files in the download link should I use?

I'm not that good with computers, but trying to save some money by replacing the wifi card myself.

The system is reading the card, but I can't "enable" it.  I believe it's because of the whitelist issue.

Thanks!

Hello, i've got a problem. My Y580 since flashing has a problem with playing on "high-demanding" games, cause i got bluescreens/other errors. I can play normally Dota 2 but i can't play for example Need For Speed. What's the problem? Do i have to return to original BIOS?

I didn't do anything to voltages. I used every graphic drivers, first for W10, and the latest, and the middlest. In W7 is the same problem.

But I looked yesterday at it and i think it may be problem of thermal pads.
