Alienware m14x R1 compared to R2

Recommended Posts

When I first received my R1, the drive broke within 3 months.

Upset as i was had to go through a very unfriendly helpdesk to get it replaced.

After a couple of months, the laptop spontanously started to reboot (which was fixed after a upgrade to A05-A08).

What is the build quality like for the M14x R2?

Same horror stories, or is this the best laptop ever???

Cheers,

I have both the R2 and R1. My R1 HDD failed after 1 week as well... My R2 meanwhile is fine. The build quality seems to be similar.

Newer processor, newer graphics card, same service from alienware. the build is the same. I spent 1 1/2 hours on the phone today about a bsod issue i kept having, it took that long for them to finally say they'll replace the motherboard.

I think the R2 should have less issues, but the R1 has served me well.

I bought my M1 second hand from a mate who had just upgraded to the M2. According to him the upgrades are incremental at best. The only big difference is that you'll get better graphics performance in Low Power mode since the newer integrated GPU is a significant improvement over the older generations.

The only other big winner in the R2 is the mSATA slot for SSD caching, which would be nice you have if your still using spinning disks.
