Hi Guys,

I am new to this forum and to owning an alienware. Some of you might know me from NBR.

Just the other day I set up ssd raid 0 in the m18x, so now I am really keen on flashing the bios to enable trim.

svl7, its pretty amazing you made it possible. Congratulations

Apologies in advance for the upcoming set of annoying questions. I've been going over this thread to try and get a good idea on how to flash the bios for raid 0 trimming and what ill need in case things go south.

So far I'm gathering I should use Flashit from DOS to install M18x R2 - A03 IRST orom 11.5 (more so the QBR10EC.fd file)... also have a copy of the original bios just incase of bricking..

- Is it possible to flash the bios within windows (if so what app?) as I'm not too sure what I'm doing from the command prompts?

- Otherwise if DOS is the only way do I simply /BIOS (flash) then /LF (load fd from usb) then /G (save BIOS to file) ? If that is correct is anything required to activate trim from here ?

Once again thanks in advance. I might make a pictured dummies guide as I do this process for future noobs.

Flashed the unlocked version. Works fine. Orom reports new version and my RAID 0 booted without any issue. Well done \o/

Now let's think of a physical way to check if TRIM truly works under w7. I've just tried WinHex specialist edition and deleted files indeed show zeros, but they did that too before just as well so the test isn't 100% solid. Any ideas and proven hex editors/other tools will be most welcome.

I think another try wouldn't hurt. Maybe it was the file from station-drivers being some test version or something like that. It wouldn't be the first time they put some untested crap on s-d.

I just now noticed your post. Sure, I would be willing to try again. I hear you about the station drivers junk. Everything I have tried from them that wasn't just a download mirror of an official product has not worked properly.

@svl7 - is the version available for download now different than the one that John and I tested that did not work for the M18x R1? If it was updated since John and I tested, is the link in post #1 the most current?

Works fine on R2, great work svl7.

Svl7 is it possible to use this OROM since it is a newer version than the 11.5.0.1347 that you used:

Newer one: 11.5.0.1582 (official version according to intel release notes) posted by DarkSkies earlier: http://206.108.48.66/temp/Eric/P55DA726.zip

Littleone would you be willing to give TBoneSan some insight on the install process and its implications for the M18x R2? Im sure he would appreciate it as he posted 9/4 in another thread about adding trim to raid0 and again here where me and MrFox recommended to check. Thanks in advance LittleOne, Tech Inferno appreciates it too :)

Thanks for that mw86.

Littleone gave me a hand via PM. Thanks again Littleone.

So, there was no need for me to do a Noob-guide since I was hooked up with a one click Windows based flash/installer.

I'm a happy chappy. May my SSD's live a long and prosperous life with TRIM.

Gentlemen.. Thankyou :78:

Patched this together on request, M18x R1 BIOS A05 (unlocked) with the RST 11.5 OROM.

The orom comes from the station-drivers site, not sure whether it will work fine with the M18x, though I don't really see why it shouldn't.

Btw, something's weird with the original orom in the R1 BIOS, the checksum is wrong... confusing.

Anyway, here's the BIOS, let me know how it performs. Also remember to use the latest RST driver for this ROM.

Flash with your favorite BIOS utility or the tools provided by Dell.

As always, use at your own risk.

So is this file fixed and working? or does it brick the R1?

The R1 seems to use a slightly different IRST orom revision, which doesn't seem to be compatible with the latest versions, at least that's what I've read while researching the issue with the 11.5 orom.
