M18x R1 - A05 with RST OROM 11.5

Okay, so here's the M18x R2 A03 BIOS with the 11.5 Intel RST orom. Let me know your findings.

working, but now everything is back to stock -- I think you added this to the stock A03, not the modded one :( Can you add it to the modded one? would really be cool, thanks!

And here we go.

Not yet because 1. those drivers were removed from Intel's site, I have the 11.2 installed.. is there an official 11.5 driver out yet or one that does not have the reported memory leak?

Oh, no idea... I heard there has been an issue, but never really informed myself.

Edit: File removed due to update

You're in luck, Scott Matusow. I downloaded the "official RST 11.5" directly from the Intel site before Intel pulled it and I am using that 11.5 driver with my M18x R1. You can download it from my Google Drive... STOR_Win7_8_11.5.0.1207_PV

To me the memory leak has not been noticeable and I don't know that all systems are affected the same. I don't leave my computer turned on when it is not in use and a couple of members at NBR that tested for a memory leak noted it took a great deal of time to consume more than appropriate memory. So, I'm still using it without any complaint.

That's the latest 'Flash it' DOS utility I have for Insyde BIOS... not sure whether it will work for the R1.

The R2 update comes with a DOS utility, as mentioned above.

svl7, just an FYI, I tried the version of the M18x R1 BIOS that you added the 11.5 OROM to, as it was thought might work. I attempted to use it last night and it will not work. It installed fine, but the problem was slightly different for me than it was for Johnksss. I could see my drives and everything seemed totally perfect at first. However, the data on the drives was not readable after flashing and Windows would not boot. I could delete partitions and format in Windows 7 setup, but for some reason could not reinstall Windows to them. Write access was extremely slow and failed on each attempt. I confirmed all BIOS settings were proper for the drive controller and SATA ports.

I tried an AlienRespawn three times and it kept failing around 95%. I could even set up a RAID0 membership and using the RST Option ROM utility at initial boot was without issue, so I am not sure what is wrong. I tried using 11.5 F6 drivers during Windows setup. The error message was not about drivers and it appeared before an attempt to use F6 drivers. I even tried installing Windows to a single HDD in AHCI mode and that also failed. Of course, using AHCI would defeat the purposed of wanting the 11.5 OROM for RAID0 TRIM support, but I was not going down without a fight, LOL.

Another point others may find useful... The Flashit program will not work with the M18x R1 BIOS file. After the flash begins it fails with an error that the ROM is too large for the BIOS even though it is the Dell ROM and flashes fine within Windows using the Insyde2.0 utility. I tried the /ALL switch and the /BIOS switch and both attempts failed with the same error message. So anyone planning to try using it needs to be prepared to use the blind flash method as an alternative.

My only option was to do a blind flash recovery in order to have working SATA ports. Once I got my system running again, I tried a second time with the BIOS set to "enabled" to allow the ME firmware to be flashed and got the exact same result. Not sure what the problem is. So close to success, but yet so far. Maybe the Intel ME framework is incompatible?

Here are some screen shots of what I was seeing. I truly appreciate the effort svl7. If we can determine what the missing ingredient is, I'll try again.

Works fine on R2, great work svl7.

Svl7 is it possible to use this OROM since it is a newer version than the 11.5.0.1347 that you used:

Newer one: 11.5.0.1582 (official version according to intel release notes) posted by DarkSkies earlier: http://206.108.48.66/temp/Eric/P55DA726.zip

That's right, since we are at this, why not to go with the final product? I am looking forward to testing it. Thanks.

Working fine! good job, I need to get myself a perma membership here-- donate.. I will report results when I find the right 11.5 driver.
Did you try the RST 11.5 I posted a lnk to? I mentioned seeing no problem with a memory leak, but always shut down when I am not using my system. Out of curiosity, I left my machine on all night and the maximum memory use was not a big deal. See below...

Nice! Wish it would work for the M18x R1. I wonder if the result would be the same with the 11.5.0.1582 OROM? I suppose the new OROM could simply be incompatible with the HM67 chipset. I don't think Intel intended it. :(

Updated with "Intel® RAID for SATA - v11.5.0.1582" option rom. Have fun :)

Flashed the unlocked version. Works fine. Orom reports new version and my RAID 0 booted without any issue. Well done \o/

Now let's think of a physical way to check if TRIM truly works under w7. I've just tried WinHex specialist edition and deleted files indeed show zeros, but they did that too before just as well so the test isn't 100% solid. Any ideas and proven hex editors/other tools will be most welcome.

I think another try wouldn't hurt. Maybe it was the file from station-drivers being some test version or something like that. It wouldn't be the first time they put some untested crap on s-d.

sorry guys to bring the bad news for R1 users, "RAID0 TRIM Another Look". it seems raid 0 trim will only support for 7 series chipset, and thats from intel. but again intel could be wrong so who knows. and looks like doesnt need 11.5 orom, just have to have 11.0+ orom built in something blah blah.

This isn't a bad reading. Anvil indeed seems to have a (working) "Do TRIM" option which indeed was previously unavailable (software available here). I hastily replicated their 'trim in action' tests using another benchmarking tool and indeed did notice no original performance drop after deleting the files. I will try to use PCMark 7 Pro tomorrow and do what they did step by step.

I will report back.

BTW, they are running RST drivers 11.5.2.1001 while I am still at the 11.5.0.1207 which I downloaded from intel.com before it was pulled. Anybody having the original 11.5.2.1001 package downloaded from intel at hand?

thanks for testing it lol, looks like it did work and i just wish for a R2 this instant so i could play around with it.
