NVIDIA Kepler VBIOS mods - Overclocking Editions, modified clocks, voltage tweaks

Recommended Posts

okay, so traveling back in time to the GTX 670MX discussions. Ive looked everywhere to find an answer before asking this to everyone. I am unable to open my VBIOS for edit with any software I can get my hands on, its either "unsupported" "bad checksum" or just wont work. I pulled the VBIOS with NVFlash, and GPU-z (from both cards, multiple times in case the file was bad) and tried to edit them with every VBIOS editor I could find, but to no avail... every method I tried was with a method that supposedly supports this card, something is awry here thats probably beyond my knowledge base, and I need some other brains on this. Please help me out!

Can you not just flash the vBIOS that I'm using that came from this thread on the first page:

Clevo 670mx - 3GB - 80.04.58.00.03 - 'OC edition'_rev02.zip

I've got a 3GB Clevo Card in mine.

well, I do have that, but have not flashed it yet, I want to find out why i can not do this the way everybody else does, figure its good to conspire with the masses and make sure there is not a bigger issue at hand, don't know what that could be, but the last thing i want to do is mess up my cards, as this is the first time in my life I'm flashing a vBIOS. Definitely not a noob to computers, or modding, just this kind of mod... youll understand my apprehension of flashing...

Surely it's more of a risk modifying your own vBIOS if you don't really know what you're doing than flashing a tried & tested version. Are you just doing it out of curiosity, because if you just want to overvolt & overclock, then flashing that one I suggested might be the quickest way of achieving your goals. If you have a 3GB card, and especially if your existing vBIOS version is the same number as the one I listed to you, then flashing that should be no issue.

A valid point, and that is in fact my ultimate goal. However, I might add that the vBIOS version is not the same, mine is 80.04.67.00.06 is that a big deal? cause I am just about to flash it...

I should think your actual card would be fine with the flash, but sometimes it creates incompatibilities with the laptop itself. But that's for you to research based on your model of laptop. I would say that most of the time it works out fine, Clevo's aren't particularly picky are they, I would bet it would work out fine. If you flash it, post back to let us know how it went.

EDIT: if you're unsure try to find evidence of different users using different brands of cards in their Clevo's or different vBIOS versions, and what the results were. If people have no problem putting these different types of cards in their Clevos, then you'll almost definitely be OK with flashing that modified vBIOS.

EDIT 2: After a quick search of this thread I did come up with one compatibility issue with your laptop, see post #1505. It might be relevant to you.

After vBIOS flash, there was still no overclock ability, I can change the clock (or it looks like I am), but when I do a benchmark, or check cpu-z the results are no different than before. so I checked the vBIOS, and BIOS info to compare to the mentioned post #1505, no big deal, Im running win 7 anyways, but it all checks out, then drivers go unresponsive suddenly, system crashes, and hard reboot time (ouch). after reboot everything works great, including overclock. A reboot fixed it... go figure.

However... I have no over/undervolting ability... is it just preset in this vBIOS, or is there some way to do it besides my beloved afterburner? (excuse me if sometimes my knowledge of GPUs seems primitive)

Hi everyone, im new to this forum and just recently got the ASUS G75VX with GTX670MX 3GB! I am interested in overclocking it past the +135 core clock and +1000 mem clock limit.

Can someone give me a guide on how to achieve this? My laptop bios is version 206. Would love to get benchmark scores like some of you guys here!

Cheers!

If you're using the same vBIOS as me, the one I posted to you, then you should have overvolting via NVidia Inspector. Right click, 'Run As Administrator'. Not all functions are exposed using Afterburner with this vBIOS for some reason - use NVidia Inspector instead. If still not working then maybe google any similar problems people are having with your specific laptop model. Oh, and you could always try doing a clean driver install.

If it helps. I flashed that clevo bios on my 670MX 3GB from MSI and it also complained about the version during the flash. I overrode the error and so far its been a month and change and all is well.

That does make me feel more secure. I definitely was weary about it, but I did it and its working amazingly, when I flashed mine it did not give me an error message at all. The last time I flashed a [system] BIOS it did not give me an error, it said it was good, but bricked my laptop (old ASUS G73JW). But thats another story...

Wow finally 880M. I'm new to this so pardon the noob question. Will the modified vBios require 'modified' cooling and power supply as well? I have an Alienware 17 with everything stock and no overclocking. Thanks.
