It`s right.

The GTX 765M should also working.

I have a MS-16F2 (X6817) and my  GTX 765M isn`t working,but i`m not shure about the Notebook.

Maybe it is broken,i can`t check it with another Card in this Moment.

The two small indents are not a Problem, the Chip is smaller.

Hello,

Does somebody have a comprehensive list of the CPUs that are compatible with the MSI GX740 ?

I would like to upgrade my i5-460M.

What I also would like to know is up to which generation of i5 or i7 can accept this mainboard ? Because the less the consumption is, the more the fan will slow down.

Hello,

Does somebody have a comprehensive list of the RAM that are compatible with the MSI GX740 ?

With the unlocked bios mentionned above, what are the fastest ones that can be used (Frequencies and timings) ?

It seems to be that the max amount of RAM is 8GB. Is that true ?

Are there limitations due to the chipset or due to the original MSI Bios ?

Hello,

I 'd like to know if someone as modded the fan so that it's less noisy.

I have got a MS-1727 mainboard (Medion X7811) which is more and less the same that the one of the MSI GX740.

What I have read on different forums is that the fan is monitored by an EC which doesn't seem to be the same (or which is not programmed the same) depending on the sensitive board (wifi, bluetooth, Explorer and so on) of the computer.

Is that true ?

Is there another way to modify the fan behavior, successfully tested by someone ?

Thanks in advance.

To complete my precedent post, I searched for hours on internet for alternative quiet fans but not found anithing up to now.

On the same subject, if it is possible to monitor the fan speed what are the maximum CPU and GPU we can accept during an intensive use of the computer (3 or 4 hours of game for example).

Thanks in advance

Hi guys !

I'm currently giving a second life to my GX660-405 (i7 740QM -6Go RAM -  5870M) :

- replaced the fan because one little part of plastic was broken.

- installed a SSD for the OS.

- replaced the keyboard because the "x" wasn't working anymore.

- upgraded the CPU, it's now a 920XM

- bought the Targus 180W power adapter

Can you confirm that it's the modified BIOS MS16F1 that i need ?

An other question for you guys : 920XM, 180W, do i have to limit myself to a GTX 770M if i want to upgrade because of the Max TDP ?

I think i will have to stay around here because it seems to be some interesting stuff !

Interesting stuff yes, however I think the laptop is getting too long in the tooth and it is hard to get responses to questions (at least any I've asked)

Hello,

I've read 15 last pages of this topic but couldn't find it - doest anyone here have &can share a GT70 2oc (4gen, hasswell so 1763) unlocked bios?

I had to remove a graphic card and now fan is working on full load - I've heard that if I turn off graphic in bios it will work normally, but I don't have this option on stock one...

You can create backup of your bios from your laptop, and then unlock hidden menus and settings with program AMIBCP.

Thanks, got it :)

I've opened bios file but what to do next? Do You have an idea where is this option and how to unlock it?

Everything in column "show" is set to "yes" and in "access/use" to default - not only in the main menu (in the picture) but everywhere... Oo

You can upgrade also other GPU`s,the better Choise is a GTX 675MX or K4000M/K4100M.

They are cheaper and faster than GTX 770M

You can also use GTX 970M without Problems.

Here the 3Dmark of my K4000M:

Hey Blötschkopf,

I just wanted to thank you and reply that the GT765M is working great in my MSI GT680R with the MS-16F21 V1.1 Mainboard.

I have flashed the unlocked Bios to my Mainboard before but I don't know if it matters because I didn't change anything.

Only the Cooler I bought on eBay for a 460m has been modified. (Because it lacks the cooling blocks for the Capacitors, I didn't try any heavy load.)

The Card is from Schenker electronics. http://www.ebay.de/itm/122008771567

I think, that the Bios of the Card had been modified, because there has clearly been soldered on the Bios chip and a Resistor on the Board. (I marked them on the first Picture)

To install the Nvidia Drivers I had to modify the Device code in the .inf files of the Driver. Is there a better way to do this than by the Editor?

Till now the Graphics card works great using 2 Displays for watching Youtube Videos in Firefox and playing Classic WoW.

I didn't try heavier games or Benchmarks, because I didn't want to risk damaging anything because of the not perfect cooling solution.

btw, the GPU Temperature does sit on 48°C Idle (firefox) and ~58°C in Classic WoW with full details.

For everyone else who wants to try this, I'll add some Pictures which hopefully explain the process.

Board with Pads.jpg

Picture of the Card ready to assemble. Only the Thermal Compound on the GPU is still missing.

(Don't file anything off your Graphics Card!!! Just the Heatsink)

Unmodifyed heatsink.jpg

Picture of the Heatsink before the modification.

Copper Clamping.jpg

How to easily install add Copper parts to the Heatsink.

Heatsink done.jpg

Picture of the Heatsink after the modification, ready to install. (I did not add Copper to the spots for the Capacitors)

BTW I removed the X-Shaped metal Bracked from the back of the Graphics Card. This is a pain in the ass to do and you should be very careful not to rip off any components of the board or destroy any circuit on the board. But it was necessary due to the way the Card is mounted in the MSI GT680R.

Hello everyone :) I have just come across this thread and must say I am impressed. Thank you for all the effort!

A couple questions however:

I have a MSI GT683R (I flashed the unlocked BIOS without any problem) with an i7-2630QM and am a little confused as to which setting I must play with in order to remove the thermal power limits... The author posted a few pictures of configs, but the images are down unfortunately.

I have played with the following options:

Main:
TDP Limit
Long duration power limit

Advanced - Sandybridge PPM Configuration:
Long duration power limit
Long duration maintained
Short duration power limit
TCC active offset

Main  (again):
Power Tehnology
Performance/Watt

However, any setting I put doesn't seem to stick, as ThrottleStop shows the default values when I click on "TPL". Is there some sort of simple config/tutorial I can follow that will help me remove every kind of throttling there is (especially the power limits)?

Thanks again for everything!

Hi all.

I have an MSI GX740 laptop (I5 430M and HD5870m). As I can, I'll download the modded bios.

But do you know why the .031 vbios give bsod or freeze system? I'm trying to retreive an older version but it's hard to find.

Maybe do you have a better version of the vbios?

Thank you, Luca

Here You can try this 2 MSI Vbios.

When You flash the Vbios please  have a Look at  the Board ID.

There are two different Board ID`s.

gtx765m.rar

GTX765MSI.rar

So this VBios update will change the Hardware ID of my Graphics Card to a matching ID from the NVidia Driver?

Thanks, I'll try this by time.

But how do I look at the Board IDs in the BIOS files?

It's me!!! Again!!?!?

So I looked closer into the flashing procedure and I didn't find my Board ID (so far I can read it from my existing firmware) does not match one of the Firmware files you linked me.

My Board ID:        23031e10       (according to NVflash E312)

gtx765m.rom:      204411E2       (according to NVflash E318)

GTX765MSI.rom: 230411E1       (according to NVflash E300)

But the only thing I could find googling my Board ID is a GTX 770m.

So I just went all the way back to DOS, made a fresh backup of my vBios and tried flashing without flashing.

The first flashing attemp with the gtx765m.rom gave me:

I also tried to flash the Backup for my own comparison of the Logfiles and it flashed fine.

I think there are different GTX 765M which based on the GTX 770M Hardware Layout.

I also had this Problem with the ID,but my GTX 765M Board ID was matcdhing with the GTX 765MSI.rom.

The other Vbios also show me the Information for a GTX 770M and another Board Id,but it is really from a MSI GTX 765M.
