M17x R4 upgrade to gtx880m

Recommended Posts

Yes, I’m going to beat this dead horse again.

My problem is after installing the card and modified drivers my computer sees the card, but when I fn+f7 to switch to dedicated card and reboots everything loads correctly, but the monitor goes blank. While it’s blank I can hit the fn+f7 key then enter. It will reboot back to integrated graphics and the monitor will come back on.

I am sure that when I do switch to dedicated graphics while the monitor is blank, I can install a hdmi cable to external monitor and see everything.

My Alienware is the 60hz 1080 monitor. I also have A10 unlocked bios installed.

I gave the a11 bios a shot but it's still the same. Switched to peg and everything loads up fine, just no picture. I then turned off legacy rom and it finally gave me a picture but it wouldn't load my OS. Tried to reinstall windows 7 but would not see my USB drive.

I believe that it was said before that without legacy turned on windows 7 won't work, I believe you need to use windows 8.1 or 10 if you want to run full uefi.

Yes, I think that is the case too.

So, I did change to windows 10. Disabled legacy.  Had the gtx880m detected with modified drivers.  Then something updated and was never able to get the card detected again.  I finally took the card out and put back in the 675.  Havent messed with it since. But still willing when I get motivated again.

Also when I first installed it, I get these red dots on the screen before any drivers were installed.
