I had issues with this first aswell, the best way to fix this issue is upgrade the Vbios it got rid of every single throttle issue and other issues I was having with the card, a quick search of the forums should solve this, I dont remember where the link was it may be under downloads but I got it quite recently, another thing is how is your sound? do you have sound at the moment?

GPU throttling issues can be fixed by turning off "Adapter warning" in the BIOS. As for the driver part, you'll have to mod the nvidia inf if you want to install the newest drivers, eurocom did that with some older drivers but since new drivers carry updated .inf's you'd have to do it all over.

So would that involve just copy/pasting every GTX 880M reference from the old driver INF into a new set?

That's what I thought as well but unfortunately no. If you mod the INF you'll notice there's a "section" setting with a specific number. If you're using the incorrect section the driver will stop installing at 10% or something.

I used this guide to help me, it's actually quite easy when you take your time. Just go into your devices and check the hardware ID of your 880m. I have a 1070 so my number is 1BE1, simply use ctrl+f in the nvdmi.inf and search for your appropiate number. Mine was 1BE1 which was section 331,  simply edited that line by using the guide. If you've done it correctly the driver will install flawlessly, though it took me about 2 hours of figuring out, so it's a bit of a challenge but it's pretty useful to know what you're doing since you got to do this every time nvidia releases a new driver.

Maybe the "Adapter warning" setting can help me with the 780m throttling problem on my m17xr3 when gpu gets 78 degC. I will try and go back to talk about the result. Thanks in advance.

I'm just about to give this upgrade a go. I know the 880M wasn't a great card but I got one for about $200AU and my mate is going to give me his old M17x R3 for a carton of beer so it's worth a crack.

This exact machine was my first ever AW but I had sold it to him about 5 years ago so it's coming home. Hopefully I can get this upgrade to work with all the great information on here.

Well I flashed the unlocked BIOS, DDU’d my drivers in safe mode, made all the required changes in the BIOS, slipped the 880M in there and got 6 beeps. I’m hoping it just wasn’t seated properly but I’m expecting a dead card. I’ll try again tomorrow.
