Recommended specs for a laptop for CAD(SolidWorks, etc)?

Recommended Posts

Hello,

My brother is alnost finishing his last year at school, and wants to study Mechanical Engineering at a university, but needs some help with specs for a laptop for working with SolidWorks, etc...

He found a laptop that has an GTX 1050Ti, 8GB of RAM, and a core i5 cpu, Kaby Lake.

He did his research, and found that you need a minimum of 8GB of RAM for SolidWorks, which is fine. But, do he really need a core i7 cpu or is it not going to make a difference?

An SSD will definitely make a difference. A workstation laptop is not an option.

He plays some GPU intensive games, like Far Cry 4, etc...

What is your opinions about this? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
