Well my GTX 1060 MXM Module and Heatsink have arrive. Already done a Benchrun with the GTX 970m MXM to record Temps / Power / Performance.

So got to script everything now ready for the Video i am going to make about Upgrading the GT72-6QD.

So just checking as both GT72-6xx and GT72-2xx systems are the same just for the CPU Heatsink, with mention that CPU Heatsink was required on the GT72-2xx i take its just the Heatsink from the GT72-6xx Laptop? Or does it have to be modded.

Also is there any over information you think should be in my video considering i will be recording the whole upgrade on a GT72-6QD.

Both Heatsinks must be modified for GTX 1060,only for the 6XX You could use the GPU Heatsink from the GT72VR with GTX1060.

For 2XX You must change also the CPU Heatsink to use the GT72VR GPU  Heatsink.

If You don´T have this You must modify Your original Heatsink.

Just done the Upgrade myself MXM GTX 1060 has the G-Sync vbios although the system UEFI bios needs updating to enable G-Sync.

Went from 6,503 Firestrike score on the GTX 970m to a nice 9,873 Firestrike score whilst holding a steady 1911mhz GPU clock drawing 102watt from the MXM slot. Will do proper benchmark runs tomorrow ready for the video i have now made.

@Julie

Ok The batteries are so so different. The one your after if your after a battery for GT70 is the BTY-M6D.

The BTY-M6D was used in the following laptops:

GT663,   GT683DX,   GT780,   GX660,    GX780DX,   GT60,   GT680DXR,    GT70,   GT783,   GX680,    GT670,   GT683R,
  GT780DX,    GX660DX,   GX780R,   GT660R,    GT683,   GT760R,   E6603,    GX780,   GT680DX,   GT685R,    GT780R,

 GX660R,   GT663R,    GT683DXR,   GT780D,   GX660D,    GX780DXR,   GT660,   GT680R,    GT760,   GT783R,
  GX680R,    GT680,   GT685,   GT780DXR,    GX660DXR,   GX60,

The GT72 however uses a different battery all together it uses the BTY-L77 which is an internal battery its the same battery used in all new GT72/72VR/73 GT80/83 systems.

This ist also not Standart MXM Card, this Card is 113mm long, not 105mm

Maybe it works without Sata Adapter.

Looks the same size as my GTX 970m and GTX 1060 Mobile. Although from what i heard it has a header issue when flashed with MSI vbios's

1060 OC and 4940MX OC 4x 4.3GHz (no TDP lock) :80:

No TDP lock?! Is that on the GPU or CPU?

I have a 1060 installed on my laptop (non gsync mxm) and I am limited to 80W on the card. I get a graphics score of around 13K compared to your 15.8K. Did you flash a certain Vbios or something?

What wizardry did you do?

Anyone Else having issues with Games not wanting to work with the Dedicated GPU after this swap?

I just did a GTX 1060 in a GT70-ONC and I thought it waent flawless. I can run Player unknown Perfectly fine. But when I go to crank up other Games like Tera or Black Desert Online, I for the life of me cant get it to run on the 1060. Ive already tried changing  the settings in the Nvidia control panel to user the High Performance NVIDIA Processor. Any help would be awesome. Thank You

Fresh Install of windows 10 64bit.

2x240 gig ssds ruining in raid 0

24 gigs of ram

Nvidia notebook Drivers 384.76

I also have a GT70-0NC and I've been having a hell of a time getting a 1060 to work in mine at all. I can never get the Intel HD driver to install. I can install a modified driver for the 1060, but installing the Intel HD driver on mine causes the laptop to suddenly reset mid way through the driver install. I have a similar set up as you. Fresh Win10 x64 install, 24GB RAM, 2x 500GB SSD in Raid 0, etc.

I've checked my heat sink setup, upgraded the system BIOS, tried different versions of the Intel HD 4000 driver from both Intel and MSI's sites, a modified driver nVidia driver from woodztack, installing the Intel HD driver with the old card then swapping the 1060 in, installing the Intel HD driver with the 1060 removed and installing the 1060 after... Everything either ends with the laptop suddenly resetting in the middle of the Intel HD driver setup or fails to start Windows successfully. Running out of ideas how to get this this thing working.

Any tips? What driver versions are you using for the Intel HD? What order were you installing drivers and hardware? Any special BIOS?

Thanks!

Hi @Bloetschkopf

It seems that there's a success in upgrading  the GPU of MSI GT60-Ivy bridge to an Nvidia GTX 1060m. But before i join the bandwagon, I have  some questions:

- Is the capacitors  at the back of the GPU won't hit anything on the motherboard? Because I have read that AW 17 users cannot tighten the screws of the gpu that much due to capacitor issues hitting each other (both mxm board and motherboard).

- Can you give me a link on where you got the 1060m gpu? And

- Can you also give me the vbios for non g-sync?

IVY bridge is not gysnc compatible though... Thanks and I hope to hear from you soon.,

regards,

Omega
