Thank you. It serves also as inspiration or a template to start a new Asus G46VW Owner's thread :40_002:

Yeah I should probably do that!

Since most of my operations are documented in my write-up it'll be plenty to share. I'll probably finish it up first.

I wish I could have @ha1o2surfer more involved, if he wasn't so overwhelmed by work of course, he seems to have a heavy knowledge base when it comes to system configuration.

INFO: EC_retrofit - retrofitting an expresscard slot to a E6440

Performed successfully on my system that did not come with an expresscard (EC) slot. If looking at ebay systems, the ones with the "EC" marked expresscard blank above the optical drive and next to the WLAN switch are the ones with a factory EC slot. You can see this clearly below:

csm_e6440right_348040317f.jpg

...

3. Expresscard version WLAN switch faceplate that sits above the optical drive. This shorter versions allows expresscard insertion. If you want to save the money, just shorten your existing plastic plate using a dremel or coping saw. To remove your existing faceplate, remove the optical drive and undo the 3 screws holding it down. Since the portion you'll be cutting has a screwhole, one screw is freed and can be used in (1) above.

REQUEST: length of EC-version E6440 WLAN switch faceplate

Can someone with a EC-version E6440 post a photo of their WLAN switch faceplate alongside a tape measure? That way I cut mine to precisely match the length of a factory EC version. Looks like it needs to be somewhere between 93-95mm from the left edge.

EDIT : I've sold it. Thanks everyone!

I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post this here, but I've upgraded my laptop and so I'm selling my external GPU.

I've been using it with my HP Elitebook 2540p, and it's been great for gaming. It uses the PE4H adaptor with a 34mm expresscard.

$120 USD

I can sort out shipping to most places, or a discount if you pick up (Christchurch, New Zealand).

eGPU_3.jpg

eGPU_2.jpg

All Pictures : Front, Back, Pieces, Setup + Running

Technical Details:

 • Internally this uses the hwtools PE4H adaptor
 • It's a Nvidia GTX560
 • 34mm expresscard
 • The enclosure is a laser-cut box that I designed

Sale includes:

 • Enclosure
 • GPU
 • Power brick & cables
 • Mini HDMI cable
 • Express port adaptor
 • Original GPU user guide & documents

Paypal is probably the easiest option for payment, but I'm open to other alternatives such as a bank wire transfer or Bitcoin.

Obviously you'll need to check that your laptop is compatible, but if you're on this forum you've probably already figured that much out.

I'm happy to answer any questions :).

Thanks. I know that I'm sacrificing some performance, but will it actually work or is using a thunderbolt display subject to the same restrictions as using optimus (only works with no discrete graphics) ?

thanks for the info too.

o hmm well i have windows 7 64 bit vostro 3550 wit i3-2310m core, intel hd 3000graphics card with dim 5T and 8gs of ram,win 7 64x

bought my self eGPU geforce gtx 750 ti 2GB GDDR5(i know bought bit more powerful one then it should but im trying to get it work

and PE4H-EC2C which has its own power source another adaptor wihch use on other laptop before outbut is 90w=19v*4.47 A grahpics card needs 60 w.

So tried bit diffrently i turned on the laptop first the connected the grahpics card. used the fn +f1 key funktion and the tv didn't respond.

i tried to access the nivida controll pannel but some reason it won't open.

also the zotac firestrom and techpower gpu-z don't show any activty on the nvidia graphics card.

Already tried unistalling and installing the drivers 2 times

even tried the hot pluging

Another thing i tried was i turned on the tv and graphics card, the tv did respond wihc ment somthing was hooked behind the hdmi cabel so i turned on the laptop. Laptop powerde up exept for the laptop screen. i tried connecting the egpu while the laptop was on. but it showed me only error 12:02:

Both the laptop, egpu and tv are connected with hdmi cabel

I don't know how much does it efect if you have gen 2 aptop and gen 3 graphics card

Before im going to get hands on DSDT which im trying to figure out, has anyone had experrance with vostro 3550 igpu + egpu ?? (no dgpu)

if yes then i could use some pointers. Thank you who ever deside to shed some light on this subject.

Well, that had nothing to do with the fact they no longer sell that adapter. All they had to do was to put the damn card in a plastic or even a cardboard box to keep Intel happy and continue to sell it to the customers.

Hello

I have a Dell Vostro 3450 and I have an Nvidia gtx 650ti I connected it to my laptop via PE4C-EC3C v1.2 and I got error 43 in windows 8, I installed Ubuntu and it worked perfectly out of the box. Is setup 1.x necessary for fixing the error?, if not, how. thanks for your support?. If it works in Ubuntu does it mean that I have sufficient 32-bit space?

The Video cards->Initialize can be useful to overcome error 43.

Ubuntu has a NOCRS kernel boot option that allows PCIe allocation outside of 32-bit limits. You could check the GTX650Ti under Linux with 'lspci' to see where it's been allocated.

I've found Latitude systems will decrease their TOLUD from 3.5GB to 3.25GB if they detect an eGPU on bootup. The lower TOLUD then allowing an eGPU to be hosted in 32-bit space. Vostros may be the same?

Hey, is this for sale still by any chance? By co-incidence I happen to actually be in Christchurch NZ... so could pick up/pay cash.

I've only just started looking into eGPU's but I think from what I've read this would work with my lenovo t410 (34mm expresscard).

So is that the PE4H V2.4 or V3.2? Also is that the Dell DA-2 adapter that comes with the PE4C/ EXP GDC? I am very interested in purchasing, I wish I could PM. You can reply here or email me at [email protected], Thanks! Also I am purchasing the HP 2570P is this setup plug-n-play for you? did you use setup1.x?

It's V2.4, and no it's not the Dell adapter - it's one I had lying around from another project ;).

The 2570P should be very similar to my set-up. It was fairly easy to get running, but not plug-n-play. I had to update the laptop BIOS, then install the NVIDIA optimus drivers (I seem to recall there was a bit of fiddling round in configuration files to get this to work). Once it was all set up then the eGPU was plug-n-play though, you just booted the laptop then plugged it in, and it worked.

I didn't use setup1.x

I'll send you an e-mail with some more details tomorrow when I have a bit more time. Cheers!

I have a little issue.

I have a couple of entries in my Windows Boot Manager and one of them is a grub coomandline.

I can do a:

root (hd1,0)

Chainloader (hd1)+0

Boot

And my MacOS will chainload just fine.

But now I want to boot with my eGPU.

So I select eGPU entry in boot manager, I do my compact that runs pci.bat then I return to boot manager.

And now selecting the grub manager command line no longer works as expected.

It seems that setup 1.3 somehow shadows/hides my MacOS disk and shows me another drive.

What can I do about this issue besides swaping my drives?

I see that (hd2) is not affected, so if I swap macos drive to this letter should work. But I want to have it as (HD1). Help?

When you boot the Setup 1.30 disk image you'll have (hd0) = image, (hd1) = first HDD, (hd2) = second HDD. When you chainload out of Setup 1.30, it will remap (hd1) -> (hd0) by default then do Chainloader (hd0)+1 to boot the MBR. If you'd prefer to maintain the hd0, hd1, hd2 structure then select the Chainloader->noremap option.

If you have more specific requirements deduced by using Chainloader->Prompt, then you can either (1) use the Chainloader->!edit conf to edit your grub menu.lst file with your commandline needed to chainload or (2) remove the "call chainload MBR" entry from your startup.bat file and replace it with 'grub --config-file="ls"'' to give you a grub prompt where you can enter the grub command you need. (1) is preferrable since then you'll have an automated solution that starts at the Windows bootmanager and chainloads back there with only one [ENTER].

Hi all.

Firstly, I want to say that I have 2 eGPU: PE4L 2.1b+ GTX670 (use it myself) and EXP GDC V6 + GTX 670 (my wife's).

Recently, my notebook often cannot detect the eGPU. My steps are like this:

1.Plug in eGPU and start the notebook;

2.Notebook starts, detects eGPU (video card works, fans spin);

3.Notebook restarts (to allocate memory space, right? normal behaviour, it was always like this);

4.After restart, notebook should detect an eGPU, and they should work together, but nothing happens. There are only lights on PE4L, the video card does not work (fans not spin) and notebook starts as just there is no eGPU attached to it.

I have tried to power of the system, dismount battery of the notebook, then plug all together again, but still no hope. Then, I have started to search for the cause. Good thing I have two eGPUs. I have started from the first step, but this time used EXP GDC (with the same video-card), and it works just fine. Then I unplugged PE4L again... It started normally :56:

SO, ever since, every time I have such kind of issue with PE4L, I need to use EXP GDC first to make PE4L work.

Anybody can explain to me what could have happened to my PE4L eGPU?

Is the problem in PE4L or PSU or other?

Any workarounds?

Thanks in advance
