Sure, that is sth you could do. :)

Question is, is it sth that you can prevent from beeing spreaded afterwards?

Maybe there is a gatekeeper executable that does the mods needed to get the functionality working without revealing what it's doing?

I have a solution to get display output from nvidia (some amds work too) egpu OSX, work with any mac i tried (not much tho, mac mini 2014 (base model) and nMP)

But not willing to share it for free. Think 20$ per user would be fine ?

As soon as I figure a way to share it, Will post somewhere.

I have a way to get most of TB macs to give output on egpu without any issues.

Still thinking of best way to release it and get myself payed a bit for this.

A little system modification makes card work just like it does in mac pro, provided you have cuda already working.

Here, with an efi for card, it shows bootscreen also, but bootscreen isn't critical for this.

What we have found is that there are 2 components to have use of eGPU in OSX with Nvidia cards.

An eEFI on the card can punch through at boot and give screen output on AMD or Nvidia cards right from boot. Just using an eEFI will get you one screen with an Nvidia card.

With some additional mods to system files, you can enable more screens. Or if you can live without the boot screens doing the system mods can enable screen output.

The mods aren't like existing mods in that they have to be specific for each individual machine and will need to be updated when OS updates happen. Oddly, it isn't the kext that goalque was finding some success with.

So while MVC will be selling card & mods for best possible setup, Netkas can put together a driver package that enables multiple display output for OSX on Nvidia cards TODAY. Won't give you boot screens or alter what you do for Windows but does allow TB2 Macs to run displays via eGPU, something that has stymied many and held back eGPUs for awhile.

Is result of investment of time and money and weeks of tedious testing. Well worth getting the GPU genius to write a personalized driver mod for your machine.

Any port, I told you it works like in classic mac pro. multiple displays as well.

btw. I was playing egpu with osx much earlier, about 3 years ago, vidock, express-card slot, hackybook, was able to get it working even back then.

@braynshock , before replacing the enclosure with a more expensive one, I'd suggest we do a simple test to see if the filtering is the issue. The AMD card may be adding low frequency noise that isn't getting filtered which causes the TB board to fail.

Seeing you are handy with a soldering iron you may want to have a go?

To do the test, you'll need a true multi-rail PSU so can split off power say PCIe power and slot power on 12V1 and TB board on 12V2. Eg PSU with true dual-rails is a Corsair HX1000: http://www.corsair.com/en/professional-series-hx1000-80-plus-certified-modular-power-supply . This would be a workaround for suspected insufficient decoupling capacitors on the AKiTiO board.

The mod is similar to the 75W bypass mod. You apply the cellophane tape to isolate the TB board and PCIe slot. However, instead of soldering the two wires across in that manner you want to solder a mating 4-pin (CPU) connector to 12V and GND at reverse side of the AKITiO PCIe slot 2V (B1, B2, B3, A2, A3) and GND (A4, B4, B7). You could get by with 2 yellow-12V and 2 black-GND wires.

Attach to your ATX PSU and do some 3dmark11 runs to see if that helps. Would really like to nut this AMD problem out.

that is cooll ok n BIOS Win 8.1 Pro (at least with DIY eGPU 1.2)ut I'm nowhere near the level of savvy that you and some of the other contributors are RJgAJZdlsYzbjOrAAAAAElFTkSuQmCC I may build my own desktops, but I've got what I'd think is a minimum of knowledge about the electronics therein.. something I sadly never got into learnin

Offcourse all this could happen if there is a way to enable flashing the machines Descriptor Region with fitc/fpt.as in my HP with the key combination? I just hope I don't have to completely take this apart to find my ALC chip. (I have the schematics so it is gonna be easier)

I've put together my eGPU with a Akitio box, Corsair 500W PSU and a Galax GTX970 card. The hardware is working fine and I was able to get the drivers installed and the eGPU working in my bootcamp Windows 8.1 install without much trouble. The problem is on the Mac side. I've installed the CUDA drivers and I've downloaded the Nvidia web drivers (modified to skip the system check). The Nvidia installation starts and goes fine until it hits it starts to validatation process (about halfway through the progress bar) and then errors out.

I'm running Mac OS X 10.10.3 on a 2012 Mini. Just as an experiment I tried this on my old MacBook Pro (running 10.10.4) and I get the same result. I've tried downloading several of the various Nvidia driver builds for other OS X versions just to see and I get the same results.

Am I missing something obvious?

(pay no attention to the driver version # at the top of the picture - I get the same failure notice for every version I've tried)

Hello

my current setup is:

- Macbook Air 2012 with Windows 7 Ultimate in BIOS Mode

- Akitio thunder2 Expansion Chassis

- GTX 960 Phantom connected to an external Monitor through HDMI

I'm currently using it with the DIY Egpu setup 1.20 and didn't have any trouble so far.

Now I want to connect my Belkin Thunderbolt Dock (The old one with Thunderbolt 1). If I connect the MBA directely to the Dock it works fine. If I connect the MBA to the Egpu it works fine. If I connect the MBA to the Egpu and the Dock it doesn't work anymore. The DiY Setup still recognizes the Egpu but as soon as I run the Pci Compaction, it stucks at the first line saying : Found 5 external control methods, reparsing for new information. After about 3-4 min the MBA shuts down and restarts. So I only get this error when the Dock and the Egpu are connected.

I tried already to Hotplug, but it didn't work.

Does anyone of you got any idea?
