I caved and bought the new Titan X

Recommended Posts

You know, I really hate myself, I do. I swore to myself this time, "don't fall for NVIDIAs shit, you can resist the temptation of Titan X". So I held out, bought a 1080 thinking "ok I got this!". What helped even more was it was constantly out of stock on their website. So tonight I just check it for shits and giggles and what do you know, it's in stock. My finger starts twitching and I'm thinking, "oh fuck no you aren't!" and the next thing I know, I'm at the checkout process w/next day shipping. God damn you NVIDIA! I know in a few months I'll look back on this post and think, "damn I'm an idiot" but what the hell.

Update a day later (today):

It arrived this afternoon and it's definitely an impressive card. My biggest gripe is I have to set the fan to 90% when its boosting to 2 ghz in order to keep it from going above 80c. Since I game with headphones on, that's not a big deal for me. In overwatch with the gtx 1080 @ 2.05 ghz and 1440p max settings I wasn't able to get above 90-95 fps. This card stays in the 130-144 fps range which is perfect for my display.

You need help my friend.

No seriously, enjoy the card, even though it doesnt make sense from a financial point of view. Many people would be jealous. At least you can run everything for the next 5 years, so on a yearly basis it is quite cheap? :)

I'm not going to lie, I really want to do the same thing. Just curious, how do you feel about it now that it's been about a month?

The only thing holding me back is that I don't know what to do with my 1080. I've never sold a card before [emoji29]

I'm loving it, it was a good decision for me since i game at 1440p and the 1080 wasn't cutting it. If you're in a similar situation, I'd sell the 1080. I sell all my video cards on hardocp.com forums.

With no custom bios it's not worth it. Nobody has cracked pascal yet.

      Hello all

I have a Clevo P370EM3 laptop with a pair of GTX 680Ms in SLI mode and have never been able to get Linux to work properly with full acceleration and without tearing. I have tried every xorg config I can find, and even all the modifications from the nvidia configurator to no avail. Has anyone been able to get these things to work 100% in Linux? I have typically used ubuntu based distros, including Mint, and every available driver version from the repositories, but can never get it to work quite right.

Thanks for any help anyone can provide. It is killing me to run Windows on this machine because of these issues, and I am almost to the point of installing the inferior 7970 cards.

      Have a great day

Help! I created a BOS BOOT DISK and use legacy to boot in DOS.   But it is saying that "An operating system wasn't found".   I have extracted all the files (the alienware m18x r2 a11 unlocked bios) into my external hard drive (format: NTFS)

      Hi,

I read a lot of different threads about the maximum possible M17X R2 configuration. But after I was more and more irritated.

What is at the end the best performant GPU solution (with unlocked bios and dirver mod) but WITHOUT manual fan control and such things. Because if I want to sell one day my M17X R2 I don't want to explain and force the buyer to control the GPU fan per hand.

Has any company out there launched a laptop with an external MXM port?

Just curious since with the boom in the gaming laptop market and some companies launching eGPU thunderbolt enclosures, isnt the MXM faster?

Is it because of licensing issues? or hardware problems?

I tried to extract the .bin from the .exe (on Dell's website) using PhoenixTool v.273, and in a way it worked... I want to change the TDP values on my 1060mq but when I tried to open the .bin in Mobile Pascal TDP Tweaker, this is what happened. Can somebody help me? Here's the original .exe and the .bin. Thanks!

(note: I wasn't able to extract the bios using AFUWINGUI64 or any other similar tool as I think Dell has some type of guard or protection against that, suspecting that's also the cause of my current issues...)
