In Q4 of 2011 Intel is planning to refresh the second generation of its mobile Core i7 CPUs with 4 new entries as shown below:

Model Cores Threads Frequency Turbo Frequency L3 cache Graphics TDP
Core i7-2640M 2 4 2.8 GHz 3.5 GHz 4 MB 650 / 1300 MHz 35 Watt
Core i7-2760QM 4 8 2.4 GHz 3.5 GHz 6 MB 650 / 1300 MHz 45 Watt
Core i7-2860QM 4 8 2.5 GHz 3.6 GHz 8 MB 650 / 1300 MHz 45 Watt
Core i7-2960XM 4 8 2.7 GHz 3.7 GHz 8 MB 650 / 1300 MHz 55 Watt

All 4 chips will support up to DDR3-1600 memory and integrate HD 3000 graphics controller with 650 MHz base frequency and 1.3 GHz max dynamic frequency with the i7-2960XM being the Extreme Edition featuring higher TDP (55W) and unlocked multipliers.

Nice article StamatisX it will be interesting when these go head to head with their current counter parts. The original 920XM vs the 940XM when overclocked were nearly brothers in arms peaking around the same frequencies, but when not overclocked the 940XM bests the 920XM due to higher default clocks.

HEY I HAVE A CLARIFICATION. IN THE ABOVE REVIEW YOU HAVE MENTIONED THAT THE — Core i7-2960XM has Integrated HD 3000 graphics controller. BUT IN THE INTEL WEBSITE, IN THE PROCESSOR COMPARISION PAGE, IT IS MENTIONED THAT the Core i7-2960XM does not have an integrated HD 3000 graphics. I AM REALLY CONFUSED. PLEASE CLARIFIY THIS.

The Intel site clearly specifies that the 2960xm comes with the integrated HD3000 graphics, as all Sandy Bridge CPUs: http://ark.intel.com/products/53478
